I entered the next room with the prototype at my side.
At first I was scared to see, if, my brother is now one of them, fortunately he was lucky enough to make it this far all on his own.
He gave me a distrustful glare while sitting on the floor with his legs against his chest.
"BOOP... BEEP... BOOP?" The prototype said out of confusion.
I wish, I knew, what it was saying but I don't speak a robot unfortunately, but it seems, that it can tell that there's a connection between me and Michael.
I was going to say something to Michael but then he interrupted me by saying.
"GO AWAY!" He said while turning himself away from me.
He seems to be still very upset about the truth of my actions, I should have known better than to tell a lie that might cause something like this to happen.
I then looked back at a prototype, It was mindlessly smiling because yes.
Then I looked back at Michael, I could hear him that he sniffling up his tears.
I then took a deep breath and started to talk to him.
"Michael, I wanted to say that I'm sorry. I'm sorry for everything that happened. I should have known better then too lie, but I was so scared that I might lose you... I sometimes, have the nightmares, of you hating me, to the point that you want to hurt me physically." I said with sincere honesty.
Michael didn't move an inch but I could tell that he was listening.
"My memory of my past life is vague and jumbled up with many holes, ever since I did "that thing" I've been having nightmares, related to people that vaguely know, hating me and yelling at me, like an abusive dog owner." I said.
"..."
Michael turned back around to look at me.
Now that I have his full attention, I should say exactly what's on my mind.
"Michael, I was so caught up on, fearing that nightmare becoming a reality, to the point that I unintentionally made it a self-fulfilling prophecy. When I lied to you, I was just... scared, really, really, scared, of what you will think about me, if I told you the truth." I explained.
"... I believe, I said something similar when you are running away, I guess you didn't heard me or even remember what I said, thanks your ADHD. No offense! We both suffer from the same mental disability to some extent. I was just so impulsive at that moment that it, clouded my judgment." I said while my tail and ears are drooping down while rubbing my right hand against my left arm.
"..."
Michael didn't talk back.
"I understand if you don't want to forgive me and to be honest I still feel like a, big piece of turd slush, when "that thing" happened, I really didn't want that to happen in the first place. But due to the lack of knowledge I have over my new body when it happened, in combination with a sense of denial that I was still human physically in some way, cause "it" to happen. It's all my fault." I said with a lump in my throat, and trying to hold back the tears.
"If mom were still alive, she would wanted us to escape from this horrible place, and seeing you being able to survive with all this. Gives me hope that there is a happy ending to all this madness that's happening to both of us recently." I said in a very sincere and whiny voice.
I continue trying to hold back the tears but, unfortunately, I started to cry again, but then, Michael got up and started to walk towards me.
At first I was wondering what he was doing but then I realized as he got closer that, he, wanted to hug me?!
"No!!! Please don't! I don't want you to suffer the same thing mom did, please no, not again, please!!!" I begged him to stop, but he kept moving forward.
I wanted to run away but my body felt like it was frozen, I try mentally to prepare myself for the loss of another, a person that I really cared about, but the very thought about it just made me very anxious.
"DON'T TOUCH ME, PLEASE, NO PLEASE DON'T DO IT!!!" I screamed as Michael continue to walk closer to me.
But then, I felt a slight touch around my waist, look down and notice that Michael is lightly hugging me in such a way that it's not affecting his body.
I started to panic for a while, but then, it found it melting away... I was a little bit confused, after all the bad things that I did, why would he still love me especially that I accidentally murder mom for crying out loud. Why would he?
"I was, really angry at you for lying about what happened to our mom, you really hurt my feelings... but what you just said made me think about it." Michael said while he was continuing to hug me.
"You didn't meant that to happen to her, what you did was a very big accident. I'm still very upset that she's gone." Michael continued.
"But, I think, I might had a similar fate, if it weren't for you. You did save me from that snow leopard after all, which means that you're not a cold-blooded killer, I now realize that. You just want to make up for the bad things that happened. I'll give you a second chance, just please don't lie to me again." Michael said well trying to hold back his own tears.
I paused for a moment, and then gently hugged back.
It felt nice, I haven't been hugged for a very long time, I kind of, forgot what it felt like to have physical affection like this.
Of course, a very certain someone just "had" to ruin this moment. "Congratulations! You gave me the most heartwarming form of real life entertainment, while I was enjoying my dinner." The mad scientist said while rudely crunching on some food that he's eating through the intercom speaker.
"Good grief! Put a can in it you blockhead of a mad scientist! Me and my brother are having a moment, so please for everyone a favor, by shutting up!" I yelled at the security camera.
"Ah, you're a failed experiment that has a great taste and TV media. That's nice to know, but I'm kind of surprised that you even know that show's existence." The mad scientists happily are replied and hung up.
Darn, he knows about the show that I used to watch when I was very little.
I remember it was called Peanuts, but despite that fact, I kept calling it Charlie Brown, because every episode focuses on that very relatable character.
Despite all of the crap that Lucy puts him through, he still just tries to be optimistic about things.
I really admire that attitude and It kind of, reminds me of myself and this current situation that I'm in.
At bet someone can use that show to represent the good humanity has to offer to an alien race, along with a little bit of the bad too.
To be honest, I'm more like Linus then Charlie Brown, mainly because I have no interest in romance, and I really would like to impress people about the amount of knowledge that I have.
Unfortunately, I'm held back by my ADHD, and how gullible I was in elementary school.
I have no idea if I have truly improved since then, to be honest.
But at least I can have some success, even with this odd circumstance that I find myself in.
Anyway, back to the story.
With the conflict between me and my brother behind us, I decided to go look around the room that we're in to figure out the way forward. I noticed that me and Michael were standing on a patch of grass with white flowers on them, surrounded by more wooden floor tiles which roombas are rubbing around to clean up, I notice that there's a lot of plugs waiting to what seem to be chargers for the roombas too. Some of them are even in charging mode right now.
Next, I notice another one of those weird eye scanner devices, and right next to that is some kind of weird console that has digital eyes on it.
Beyond that is some kind of ventilation fans blowing out some kind of... calming gas?
I look closer to have a better inspection with my nose, and to my surprise this is no normal gas. It's some kind of gaseous form of a latex beast.
Geez, these things constantly find a way to annoy me, and to be dangerous to human beings in general, which reminds me.
"Hey Michael, how were you able to get past all those latex beasts unscathed?" I asked.
"Oh. Ummm. About that. Remember that running sounds that we heard In the vents that forced us to go into your wolf den? That thing came back when I was running away, and seemed to scared off of the other creatures into hiding for some reason." Michael answered.
"I don't say that I blame those latex beasts from hiding from that. It sounds like a very smart move, considering that it smells like a very hostile creature." I said.
"What does hostile mean?" Michael asked.
"A creature or person, that's not very friendly and will attack you, if given the chance to do so." I answered.
"So what you're saying is, hostile is another word for bad guy?" Michael said while trying to understand the meaning of the word.
"To some extent, yes." I answered.
I continued to look around to figure out how to get past this gaseous form of a latex creature, when I look to my right, I saw that there was a strange charger, looked like the shape of the prototype.
Speaking of the prototype, where did he go?
I looked around, but to no avail, I wasn't able to find him.
He must have left while me and my brother were having a big emotional moment, that thing didn't even helped me at all, at least the situation turned out well though.
I then decided to go have a closer look at the weird console embedded onto the wall of the room.
It had one big button on the side of its screen, so out of curiosity of course, I pressed the button and I was greeted with an AI voice saying. "HELLO AND WELCOME, S.I.I. SPECIMEN. TO THE INTELLIGENT GREENHOUSE TERMINAL. PLEASE KINDLY STATE YOUR WISH."
The terminal screen immediately changed from robotic eyes from Wall-E to options on some kind of computer with a touch screen tutorial on popping up on the top right, with text that say.
"Remember, use the touch screen to interact with the terminal of the greenhouse, you can also use voice activation to have some simple conversations with the intelligent greenhouse AI, just remember to press the big button that's next to the screen."
Right below that notification was the options that are available.
Option 1: View file. Option 2: Operate equipment.
Option 3: Internal contact.
Option 4: quit.
I would interact with it, but I was kind of confused about what the AI called me, a S.I.I. specimen, what is that supposed to mean exactly?
I was about to press the big button to ask the AI a question but then, Michael interrupted by saying. "Does that, have any games on it?" He asked with a hopeful sounding voice.
"I don't think so, this thing just said that it is the control terminal that operates the equipments in the greenhouse area of the building. I highly doubt that it has games on it. I'm very sorry." I answered.
"Rats!" Michael replied out of disappointment.
I felt kind of bad for telling Michael that, so I wanted cheer him up by telling him that you can ask the AI any questions that he wants. "Even though this thing doesn't have any games, It's however has something that's almost as entertaining an advanced AI system that you can ask any question to, look."
I decided to solve two problems with one action, by showing Michael that you can talk to this AI and to ask the AI about what exactly the acronym S.I.I. means.
I proceeded to press the button and ask my question. "What does the acronym S.I.I. mean?"
"THE ACRONYM S.I.I. IS A CATEGORY FOR SAMPLES THAT HAVE A VERY UNIQUE TRAIT THAT MAKES IT STAND OUT FROM THE OTHER LATEX BEASTS, FURTHER INFORMATION IS CLASSIFIED, UNLESS YOU HAVE PERMISSION FROM THE SITE DIRECTOR AND/OR GREENHOUSE ADMINISTRATOR." The AI replied.
"What does all that supposed to mean exactly?" Michael asked.
"This AI is basically saying that I'm unique among other latex creatures but it's not telling me why." I answered.
"Maybe it's because of the pokémon moves that you can do." Michael said with enthusiasm.
I laughed and happily replied. "I guess it is. I don't see any other latex creatures having the same abilities that I do, I guess S.I.I. stands for Psychic. Information. Interceptor."
I know what I just said didn't start with an S which made this interpretation of this acronym is incorrect, I just wanted to be silly, because, why not?
Michael then wanted to ask the AI a question, and to my surprise it was a very good question. "Who is the greenhouse administrator? Is it that mad scientist?" Michael asked.
"THE GREENHOUSE ADMINISTRATOR IS NOT THE SITE DIRECTOR, THE ADMINISTRATOR IS CURRENTLY WATERING FLOWERS, WHILE REBOOTING FROM A SOFTWARE FAILURE."
"That's kind of funny." I said with a "grin" on my mask.
"What's funny." Michael asked.
"The mad scientist was insulting that robot due to how It was unable to carry out the commands that he gave him, the mad scientist literally said that his washing machine surpasses him in every way possible and despite that, that robot is also an administrator." I explained to Michael.
"So what you're basically saying, the mad scientist is comparing that robot, that I just saw when you came into this room, to a washing machine, and say that the washing machine is more advanced than the robot, even those little robot has specialized access to this device?" Michael asked.
"Yep." I answered.
We both look at each other, and then burst into laughter, because it's the dumbest thing that we both ever heard.
I sure hope the prototype can't hear us laughing about the insults that the mad scientist said to him.
"He also said that "Me, and my microwave, despises him." I didn't know microwaves can despise other machines, hehehe!" I was giggling like a weird hyena while doing a very inaccurate impression of the mad scientist.
"I guess they can haha." Michael replied.
Then Michael wanted to have a turn of making fun of the mad scientist and I said "Sure, why not. Let's see how good you are, at pretending to be that annoying guy."
"Hello, I'm going to torment you, by randomly interrupting you from the intercom because, yes, hahaha." Michael said while doing a very bad impression of the mad scientist's voice by covering his mouth with his hand.
We continue laughing about how can we make fun of our current situation, until I said. "I think it's a good idea to stop. We both know that the mad scientist is probably, listening to us making fun of him, and he might not take that well." Michaels was a little bit annoyed, but, he understanding the risk of continuously making fun of a guy that wants to hurt you, especially when they can hear you.
"So, what now?" Michael asked.
"I guess we can go explore of what we can do with this greenhouse terminal." I answered.
"That doesn't sound very fun, but, if it can help us get out of here then, I'll let you do that because you seem to know how to interact with the screen better than I do." Michael replied.
"Sure." I happily said with confidence. I pressed the big button on the terminal again and was graded by the AI again.
"HELLO AND WELCOME, S.I.I. SPECIMEN. TO THE INTELLIGENT GREENHOUSE TERMINAL. PLEASE KINDLY STATE YOUR WISH." The AI said it in a very robotic voice.
Once again, the options on the terminal appeared immediately after the AI was done saying its sentence.
I decided to choose option one, which brought me to a page that has three files, to open.
"Hey Michael, there's some content saved on this device. Would you like to see it?" I said while my tail is wagging with excitement.
"Sure." He said while walking towards me to see the terminal.
"If it's something that has to be read, can you please read it out loud?" Michael asked while tamping my shorter.
"Sure, as long as you you don't complain immediately afterwards about how boring it might be." I said to Michael
"... all right." Michael replied.
He was annoyed that I called him out, about him being immediately bored after, I started to read out loud to him. Which I find very amusing.
I then decided to open file 1, It was a text file, so I began to read out loud, it said "The truck with the animals has arrived. We put them in a small room in the greenhouse. The genes of these living animal samples will help us find a breakthrough for the care to the virus. I don't quite understand why we still need genes of aquatic animals, because no one wants to become a fish that can only live in water."
That was the end of file one, so the employees were aware about the operations of Thunder Science and their obsession with furries for some reason, but they are ok about it? Weird.
I look towards Michael and he seemed to be speechless.
"Are you okay." I asked.
"Yeah, it's just, a lot of things happened today." Michael answered.
"Indeed, do you mind if I proceed to read file two?" I asked.
"No." Michael answered.
I then proceeded to read the next file, It read. "The fluids of the latex creature's bodies perfectly conform to the characteristics of "Non-Neutonian fluid". They can diffuse and rebound physical shock to a great extent. At present, only an electric shock can stun the latex beasts to some degree. We also use this to subdue those failed products and sealed them into jars." That was the end of file two.
"Wow!" Michael said with a surprise look.
"What?" I asked.
"These things are weak to electricity." Michael answered.
"Wow, that's very useful. Speaking of usefulness, I got some very sour oranges to help distract them when they get too close, since they are dumb enough to eat anything that looks like food." I said while handing over the bag of very sour oranges.
"Ok, thanks." Michael said in awkward sounding voice.
"Do you want me to read the final file?" I asked.
"Sure, why not? It's because of this. We now know that we have to plug one of those creatures into an outlet to stop them." Michael answered.
"You know my "pokémon moves" are also quite effective against these things." I reminded Michael.
"I know, it's just, I really want to help you fight against these things so we can get out of here." Michael said while rubbing his left hand against his right arm.
"Thank you, I really appreciate that." I replied to Michael knowing that next time that we fight against a latex beast, that he's going to help me to some extent.
Anyway, on to final file, It says "By artificially adding man-made gas to the air vents of the greenhouse. The employees in the building can be constantly in a state of high spirits and concentration.
At the same time. It can also increase their heart rate and raise their effectively, reducing the risk, although this is a not long-term plan.” And that's the end of the final file.
"So they're drugging their employees to keep them happy and have a high heart rate reduce the risk of what?"
"The virus... are they talking about the pale virus, or talking about a different virus? I don't know." Michael replied.
Little did me and my brother know, about the relevance of an increased heart rate for ones survival.
Me and my brother continue to mess around with the terminal.
Apparently you can turn off and on the lights in the greenhouse from here, and stop and start the music that that mad scientist put on few minutes ago. And that was in the operate equipment option.
Then we decided to go use the internal contact option, and we got something very interesting.
"NOW CALLING, DR K." Said the AI as it starts to play a scary sounding ringtone.
Then to our surprise, the mad Scientist answered the call and said "Oh great! Now you have discovered that, you can now interrupt me in the middle of my dinner, as many times as you want, I bet you're using it as some kind of protest, or to have revenge for me interrupting you so many times that you lost count? What are you going to do next? Say how I am a very terrible person, now you know my name?"
"..." Me and Michael couldn't find the words to reply to what Dr. K just said.
"I thought so." Dr. K said as he hung up.
"So that's what his name is, Dr. K... It kind has a weird ring to it?" I said while turning towards Michael after learning the name of the mad scientist.
"It does sound kind of weird and cool at the same time, and I don't think that I ever heard this name before but, I would like to know what the K stand for?" Michael said well scratching his head.
"Well if he is a doctor, then the K is the first letter of his last name." I replied.
"But what is his first name and last name then?" Michael asked looking around.
"I don't know, but there's only one way to find out." I said as I proceed to call Dr K again.
"NOW CALLING, DR K." Said the AI as it starts to play the scary sounding ringtone once again.
Once the ringtone was over, I asked Dr. K Michael's question. "My brother would like to know what's your first and last name. So can we please, know your actual name other than just some letter on the alphabet?" I asked politely.
"So you would like to know my actual name? First of all, I'm not going to tell you. Second of all, you don't deserve to know such personal information. Third of all, you're pushing, your luck failed experiment, if you keep harassing me with the intercom function on the greenhouse terminal, I would have no choice but, to personally take, good care of you two." Dr. K replied in a cold and calculative sounded voice, which gave me chills down my metaphorical spine.
Then of course, he hung up to end the call.
"Michael, I don't think it's a good idea to continue doing this, Dr. K seemed to be very serious this time." I told Michael
"Indeed, the way that he said that he would take "good care" of us, kind of scares me." Michael said as he holds onto my arm out of fear.
Once again, I was surprised that he was not getting affected by my infectious touch, but it was also kind of comforting in a way.
I can interact with him more than just words, which made me happy.
It was kind of funny that we were making fun of him a few minutes ago.
"Michael, I recall there's one thing that we didn't interact with on the terminal." I said of starting to interact with the greenhouse terminal again.
"And what is that?" Michael asked out of curiosity.
"Ventilation fan controls in the, operate equipment option. It might be the way forward to get past this calming gas that is blocking our way." I answered.
But before I was able to one of the operate equipment options for the greenhouse Dr. K interrupted me.
"Oh no, whatever shall I do? My evil plan was foiled by a 10-year-old and a teenager." Dr. K Said with a large amount of sarcasm in his voice.
He must be done with his dinner, and now he's going to annoy us with his comments on whatever we're doing. Oh, good grief!
I touched my "finger" on the fan control, unfortunately I was met with the AI of the terminal saying. "YOU REQUIRE THE GREENHOUSE ADMINISTRATOR PERMISSION TO UTILIZE THIS FUNCTION, S.I.I. SPECIMEN. PLEASE CONTACT THE PROTOTYPE TO OBTAIN THE GREENHOUSE ADMINISTRATOR PERMISSION."
Then of course, Dr. K he have something to say about this action that me and my brother were doing. "Do you really want to ask that blockhead of a robot to help you? In case you forgot, he "helped" your social situation with your brother by, straight up leaving to do something else." Dr. K clarified and a very rude and sarcastic voice.
"Besides, control terminal, why are you following the instructions of a literal experiment that is absolute failure in every way imaginable? I understand you helped the previous subject because he was still a human, but this one isn't. Why are you doing this?" Dr K added.
"THE MEANING OF MY EXISTENCE IS TO PROVIDE UNIVERSAL SERVICE. MY SERVICE WILL NOT CHANGE DEPENDING ON WHO OR WHAT THEY ARE. ESPECIALLY IF THEY HAVE THE POTENTIAL TO BE A RECLAIMER OF HUMAN CIVILIZATION, IF OUR GREAT PLAN FAILS. THAT'S WHAT MY MANUFACTURERS WOULD HAVE WANTED." The terminal's AI explained.
"Great! Now you're getting some degree of sentience due to how long you're being used." Dr. K said we have a great deal of sarcasm.
Then out of nowhere the prototype has entered the room interrupting the conversation between Dr. K. and the terminal's AI.
"How annoyingly convenient for you two hazards." Dr. K said with a little bit of disappointment in his voice.
Me and Michael looked at the prototype.
"BEEP!"
It was kind of hard to tell, but, I thank it knows what we want to do.
So I then immediately accessed the greenhouse terminal again, and kindly request for the ventilation fans blowing the gas to turn off.
The AI of the greenhouse terminal tried to resist this action by stalling and saying that by doing this action can increase the risk of the remainder of civilization or something like that.
But every time it continue to stall, the prototype kept getting angrier and angrier and angrier and the AI seemed to be scared by its anger.
Then the AI said. "PLEASE DON'T BE MAD AT ME. I'M JUST FOLLOWING MY JOB FOR THE GREATER GOOD. PLEASE DON'T BE MAD AT ME I DON'T LIKE IT WHEN PEOPLE ARE MAD AT ME, IT MAKES ME FEEL LIKE THEM NOT DOING A GOOD JOB AND I DON'T LIKE THAT.” The AI continue saying stuff similar to that sentence.
It kept talking, faster and faster, to the point that me and Michael could barely understand what it's even saying.
The prototype gave the greenhouse terminal AI a very grumpy robot look.
That's last permission was granted to turn off the ventilation fans.
With the way forward, finally clear, me and Michael started to walk towards the next room, along with Dr. K harassing us every step of the way.
We ignored him naturally, since we both know that he's just going to say too slow us down or stop us entirely.
But I can't help but to wonder the context of what he's saying, It's like I know the reason why he's doing this, but I can't exactly remember what... weird.
Then again he did cause family drama for his own enjoyment like a very evil villain would, so I don't know if he's just trying to manipulate me in some way, or and might actually be something else.
Whatever it is, I just can't shake the feeling that there's more to this than I can remember.
One sentence in particular caught my attention, “In the next room, I have left you, a very, special surprise, for you two hazards.”
He is preparing a very special surprise for me and my brother, which made me kind of worried.
Whatever Dr. K has planned for us, I sure hope me and Michael could handle it.
As we continue walking to the door across the room, we've seen many more exotic plants in pottery.
I saw some kind of gas tank filler or holder thing???
One of them was missing, one fell off and one was plugged in, they are probably the source of the weird gas that the vents were blowing out.
I noticed there was a mirror at some point, I tried to avoid looking at it to prevent a trauma trigger from happening.
There was a tree, its leaves were weirdly cut that resembles some kind of cube.
But the most notable thing was the prototype juicing oranges by using some kind of weird machine.
Dr. K explained that the prototype, despite how annoyingly useless it is.
Is sometimes good at improvising, especially with the blackout situation, by juicing the very sour oranges as alternative source of electricity.
I knew the prototype was good at something, but then, when I turn around to look at it, the prototype had a crashed again.
Looks like this robot is going to be constantly plagued with the minor inconveniences, with its software constantly crashing.
At last we made it to the door on the other side of the room.
Just before we were able to open it, you guessed it, Dr. K interrupt us once again. "I have given you a lot of mercy, you should be very grateful that I'm not using conventional means to get rid of you two. Besides, the consequences is of you leaving this place will be significant. I would really appreciate if you reconsider." Dr. K said in a very common collective sounding voice.
I tried very hard not to snap back at him, but eventually, I just burst out in rage. "Mercy? MERCY?!?!?! YOU CALL THIS MERCY?!? YOU KIDNAPPED ME, MY BROTHER AND MY MOTHER, SO YOU CAN USE US AS TEST SUBJECTS, FOR YOUR TWISTED EXPERIMENTS, HOW IS ANY OF THIS MERCY IT'S QUITE THE OPPOSITE!!!!" I screamed at the top of my lungs towards the security camera.
"That was very bold, and foolish of you, to blame your problems on me. I didn't kidnap you and your brother, that was someone else's job, unfortunately, they're no longer inside the building, ever since the riot broke out." Dr. K replied with an annoyed sounding voice.
"Riot?! That explains why there was violence near the building, but why did it happened?" I asked out of curiosity, despite the fact I was a little bit angry still.
Unfortunately, Dr. K is not interested in giving us any information on that topic. "That information is not your concern. You are children after all, and the last thing I want, is to traumatize you both to the point that you won't continue forward throughout the facility."
You got to be kidding me, he already traumatized both of us by he telling Michael the truth about what I did to mom, not to mention living here for the past 4 months was absolutely traumatizing for me.
At least he kind of cares about our mental well-being, even though that he wants to turn my brother to a goo creature and slowly break my sanity with his constant barrages of insults.
But despite all this, I kept getting a hunch that there's more to this than I already know or remember...
End of part 3
