as kind, testing noodles for being "done" was nothing other than throwing food on the walls and getting away with it.
I should start doing that again :D
btw, the oil doesn't do anything for the noodles. think about it - it will float ontop. even if it gerts very very hot, it will still be on top, in a thin layer. it is unlikely that much of the noodles ever come in contact with it, even at a rapid boil. There is no emulsion so the oil stays on top

Throwing noodles at the wall was always the best part!!
Really, when I'm cooking pasta, I add a little olive oil to the noodles after draining the water, and toss them a bit.
