Hair is always a good choice for females... though if you wanna go rogue, you can go with just the fur. ;P
I have no strong preference, but I guarantee a long line of idiots going "I thought she was a male? Where's her hair?" or "She'd be hot if she had hair! She looks like a butch lesbian!" if you go with the just-fur idea. >_>

Acourse as soon as they see her boobies, 90 percent of them will instantly stop caring about everything else.
Now that I think of it, the only time I've seen furries confused about gender is over drawings of femboys. Apparently, if penor and muscles aren't immediately visible in the thumbnail, then most assume the character is female until they're shown/told otherwise. :3
