What are the odds of such a thing happening...
You come up with an idea, and 6 months later a horrible B movie about that VERY SAME species AND even the EXACT SAME NAME is released... and now everyone thinks you are ripping off the movie, not the other way around :/
If there ever was a good time where copyrighting a character/species would have helped, then this surely would have been it...

After reading my comment above again, I would like to say that "ripping off" might not have been the best term to describe what I mean. i'm not trying to say that someone STOLE my idea, I'm just pissed that out of all coincidences that could have happened, it had to be THIS one x_x

I actually designed these creatures named Hollow YEARS AGO. Like, been drawing them in 98 and shit. Black creatures with bone parts, bone masks. Then Bleach came out. FUCK. I renamed them Angels and made them more and more humanoid. Made the clothing into white with black detailing. Gave them an Angel-form and a human form.
Then the Arrancars appeared. FUCK.
Fuck that shit I ain't changing shit anymore. I don't think of the movie when I see your character. Your character's too cool. owo

in all seriousness for it, it was kind of funny, saw the character for the first time, then 2 weeks later "skarktopus" on syfy, i couldn't help but laugh, indeed, yours came first, but i believe they got the idea from you, so, congrats.
i say i think they got the idea from you because, yeah, it doesn't take long to make the movies, and just so happens you show and such, and they release a movie of it? seems a little more the coincidence.

indeed, i get your not saying it was stolen, but i personally think it was too close together to be coincidental, i've seen syfy steal ideas from alot of people, including not long after that movie, they started copying--nearly down to the letter-- many movies coming out in theatres.

YOU are the origional sharktopus and always will be! you are also THE ONLY sharktopus here in on FA and the fandom as far as i know it. you are also the sexiest shark hybrid in the fandom in my book and always will be! (i never even saw that movie btw only heard about it on a commercial on scifi as a rerun)
Same thing kept happening to me for years with the Sonic series. I come up with a new main villain named Kaos (pronounced Chaos), one year later, Sonic Adventure comes out with the main villain named Chaos. I come up with a villain named Void (that I based off of Dragonaball Z's Cell actually), they come out with a game called Sonic Shuffle, where the main villain is named Void. I come up with a villain named Shadow, who was an evil clone of the main hero, two years later, Sonic Adventure 2 comes out with a similar concept, with exact same name. I come up with a another character named Omega, and here comes Sonic Heroes with a character named Omega. Hasn't happened again since, but it was annoying.
To be fair, it was only a matter of time. Sci-fi network's idea of monsters is so utterly random. I think they were going though a "crazy hybrid monster" phase. Ice spiders! Ice tornadoes! It's like a bad game of mad libs. Simply a coincidence - but it happens.
