While we were at AC, I had sudden inspiration. As far as I know, no one has successfully made a taur fursuit. The idea has rolled around in my head for awhile now, trying to figure out the best way to make one, and I think I may have just figured it out!
Most people we mention taur suit design to always seem to want to make animatronics to mechanically move the hind legs. I believe this method is insanely expensive and nearly impossible. So I considered how Vox and Fish are technically a single chakat. Why can't we fursuit as one?
About this design:
The basic idea is to make something similar to the two person horse suits often used in theaters. This design does have to be altered a lot since horses are considerably larger than chakats.
The goal is to make a suit which could take good pictures and be as mobile as possible. The two people that make up this suit should be able to easily pose for a picture and then move on.
The first thing I noticed was that technically a taur's forelegs actually bend backwards from people. This is a problem because it makes walking immediately look silly. Also being able to walk would be quite complicated for the person in the butt. They would have to bend over constantly and likely hurt their back during a convention.
For these reasons I have scrapped the idea of being able to walk. This suit would be designed to only take pictures while sitting. To walk, the person in the butt would have to detach their portion of the suit. This can easily be done with Velcro, but it may also be possible to simply have a large excess of fur that would wrap around the back person.
While separated this suit would look quite hilarious, I must admit.
- The front person would look like a typical fursuit, except that they have an open butt flap. Also, they would have strange hips that stick out from behind them.
- The back person would be the strangest. This person would have their entire upper body showing with a large mass of fur around their waist. Their legs would look really strange since they would have extra padding on their thighs. Also their feet would be exceptionally long and probably slap the ground with each step. These feet would be made in a similar fashion to flip flops so they could touch the ground while squatting. All of that, and they would have enormous tail following behind them.
Well I think that's about everything. Someday we want to make this design a reality, but it may take me a few years to collect the funds. If anyone wants to use this concept to make a full suit, feel free! Just make sure to take good documents of your design and send them to us! It would be quite helpful in making one for ourself.

A walking chakat suit is possible, i am sure you can pick up a harness and some of the other hardware cheaply at a place like home depot or a local hardware store.
the main part of the suit would be what the person making the upper body will be resting on, a contraption in which his/her weight is sent down supports hidden in the forelegs which are precision controlled by the person in the lower part of the suit who wears it, the person in the upper body would be providing the power.
it won't be practical for long a duration event as the person on the bottom would be walking on his/her hands and feet. but it would work for a 'hey look at this neat thing'. plus the person on the bottom would be able to have breathing mesh for fresh air and a better sight more or less.

The idea you mentioned is possible, and would look great! I must admit... but it's far too expensive... especially when you start buying parts and realizing you need something different... also it's not comfortable... i'm sure the person in the bottom would be quite uncomfortable and considerably hot, unless the suit was made professionally... but once again, cost... so overall the simple design is considerably better and more practical
that would be the best just stare at the butt unless you want to go a little techy in there an use a camera like on those toy helicopters an put the camera in the head while the screens attached to your waist so he knows when to turn exactly also don't forget the cooling units been a horse with a friend for a Halloween party an man was that thing hot, hmmmm an a zipper with Velcro would work since sometimes Velcro wont hold all the time an gets somewhat annoying an as for the back maybe use therma care heard those work great well thats all i got an again fish is lucky to be staring at your butt all day hmmm maybe when you sit fish might have to position his face so u can sit :P
see, that's the beauty of this suit design... you're only connected like this for pictures... so the person in the rear would only have to be like this for a few minutes... the rest of the convention the person in the back is disconnected from the other person's butt and is able to roam around the convention freely
It's an interesting concept. =3 It's definitely been thought of before, but you've got some unique twists on it as well! Normally people try to get a moving prototype with two people in it. So... making it only for pictures and such could be possible. I'm intrigued to see how this works out. =3
There would have to be some kind of harness or chest/stomach support in the back to support the rear actor when walking, so they don't have to hunch over on their own and hurt their back.
Otherwise, pretty neat idea!
Front legs would look a big awkward--since they would be bending backwards, technically--but for photos this could be very cool.

I think this would be really cool! X3 And I think the idea of walking would actually be really good. Allthough, like you said the person in the back would get a sore back but, how about only walking a few paces or so, then sitting for pictures and just wandering around a bit? It may work that way X3
I think it could work, although it will be a bit difficult to pull off. It reminds me of Chinese lion dances, which I have been watching a lot of videos of lately. The biggest difference is that both people would be fully enclosed ( which may causes issues and would need to be worked out - air flow, heat, etc, but you probably know that ). I also wonder if it would be possible to include some sort of support system for the person in the rear end of the costume, to make it easier on them, should you want to roam around, but I know that part of the reason why you're interested in this design is to keep the cost down.
And I completely understand your desire to want to make it look as real as possible, even if it is complicated.
I hope you are able to achieve this goal! I'd love to see how it turns out.

I think that's really nice of you! I've got some complicated ideas that I'd like to try out someday ( not sure how or when yet, because I'm not really interested in making them myself, at least not at this point, and there are various issues to sort out ), but nothing quite like that. And it's nice to know that if I ever do get inspired to do something similar, you'd be cool with it. ( I am kinda interested in Chinese lion dances, but I'm not super athletic and I don't know if it's really okay for non-Asian people to dabble in that sort of thing, as I suspect that would be seen as rude, so... )

i really like this concept, instead of having someone bending forward like that you could maybe have someone leading them? similar to this:

I want to mention this design would work, imo, but there is one thing people seem to be forgetting.
Faux fur would hold air in and can be poisoned without some good ventilation for who is inside without airflow. I own a moth fursuit without a moving jaw, it's got black mesh for ventilation but its really not enough, even I sometimes get dizzy and need to lift the neck fur up to get some airflow going every so often. The underside of the fursuit needs the best ventilation possible, I wouldn't go with anything small for that. I'd go large for airflow. And fans possibly.
