In The Shining, Jack Torrance is the caretaker of the Overlook Hotel who is being driven mad by the supernatural forces that possess the site. The ghosts that inhibit the hotel are attempting to make Torrance follow the footsteps of the previous caretaker who butchered his family before committing suicide.
