Week 3
Another week of artwork trying to put at least one thing out a day, even if it’s not a completely shaded piece.
I’ve also had my first friend ask me to make something for them. I agreed, and took my time creating their character for an rpg. The three warforged images on my page are the results of this.
To anyone who takes commissions, my hats off to you. I can’t imagine trying to draw what is in other people’s heads on a consistent basis, and I was doing this in a no pressure unpaid circumstance.
In other news, my next set of projects are going to be dealing with different body types than the slim characters I’ve been starting with so I can create a broader variety of characters. Also so I can be honest with my own Trellian character in that I am not in the same shape as my youth.
Hope everyone has a wonderful week!

"Practice, practice, practice" ...I -HATED- hearing that, but even I have to admit, it worked.
Also, be sure to ask for USEFUL critique from other artists, and check out a tutorial on something new to you from time to time.
Commissions? Yikes. Yes, those can be SUPER high-stress, and there's times even WELL-PAYING commissioners are a nightmare to work with. Anyone who's done those for more than just friends has horror-stories to tell... try to learn from other peoples' mistakes there.
Word of advice: look at the rule-lists F/T artists post - payment, ref material, revisions, time limits and contact tend to be the biggest sticking points.
Body types and esp. structure are MASSIVE help in bringing your characters to life, so that's pretty cool that you're already looking at those.
Hope this helps. Rock on.
Thank you for the info on commissions, but I don’t think I’ll ever be good enough at this that people would pay for my art. I am really just doing this for fun and have found tossing it out where others can see it has been an inspiration to keep up with my daily goals. I was very happy with how the ratstler came out, but the proportions on the wolf demon make me cringe. Need to keep drawing heavier characters.
At this rate you're gonna be looking for inspirations to develop your own personal style in real short order.
Just remember: As an artist, you're likely to ALWAYS think you're horrible. Seeing your OWN improvement is hard, but seeing the flaws in EVERY PIECE you make is all too easy. Also, NEVER forget that you're (likely) always comparing yourself to artists who are lit. professional, or have been doing art for ages longer, so don't let that get you down.
THAT Said, start looking for what you like in the way your fav artists create... their coloring techniques, their tools, their shapes, the structure and feel of their characters... and TRY to ask and TRY to watch art sessions if they're available... SOOOOooooooo helpful!
Rock on!
Of course, like an idiot I hadn’t looked up a tutorial for the actual program I was using until yesterday. Procreate apparently has much more to it than I’ve been using, and another fun thing to experiment with.
Yeah, there's all sorts of little things that nobody says anything about until way later. I am/was a traditional media artist, so that never occurred to me, sorry. Used PSP5.0 back int he days of JASC and been on GIMP ever since, but that's just for minor cleanups and general splashes of color.
I keep hearing about digital "brushes", but since I haven't toyed with that any, iDunno what that means, sorry.
One thing I -DO- know is, LAYERS! Even someone with my limited digital graphics experience knows those are critical.
If there's anything an worn out old-school intermediate furry artist can help you with, feel free to ask.
