Plan to auction off a full color illustration!
Posted 5 years agoLetting you all know that I will soon (probably in the coming week) be auctioning off a (SFW) full color illustration, after I finish the commissions currently left on my queue.
The auction will be for a single full color illustration, to be finished ideally before the end of June. This is my regular full color commission type (which has been unavailable for a long time), meaning you get 2-4 sketches to choose from, as well as 2-4 color mock-ups and typically work-in-progress updates where you will still have the opportunity to provide feedback. In addition, unlike my "speedpainting" commissions, there will be the option of adding up to two characters. My regular TOS will apply.
The starting bid for the auction will be 800 USD.
At 1100 USD, an additional character may be added.
At 1400 USD, a third character may be added.
At 1600 USD, I will send you a large signed print of the illustration.
Payment plans are possible, though a partial upfront payment will always be required. Please note that the auction winner is not obligated to add additional characters - those are simply the amounts at which that option becomes available. I'm choosing for an auction at this time because this type of commission is a big commitment for me and an auction is the easiest way for me to ensure it is well compensated for.
I will not limit myself to any genre or subject matter but playing into my strengths is recommended. These are natural environments and organic shapes and textures, (high) fantasy and open landscapes. I enjoy storytelling, warmth, tranquility and melancholy.
Thanks for reading and please let me know if there are any questions!

All slots have now been filled! If you have not heard from me yet then I'm afraid you were not selected.
There were a lot of applications this time around, I'm super flattered but also a bit sad - I almost wish there were more of me to draw for you all! ❤️
A few times now I've been asked to create a Discord or Telegram channel for announcements as people miss them a lot. For now, I've created a TG channel and will do my best to use it for future updates alongside my usual platforms: https://t.me/CaraidAnnouncements

Status update
Posted 5 years agoHey everyone!
I realized I hadn't updated my Commission Status journal in a while, so I made sure to do that. I am working on finishing the final pieces on the list this month.
At the moment, I am awaiting updates on a game project I'm involved in that may or may not result in a lot of new work for me sometime in January. Depending on how that goes, I will open for new commissions sometime late January or in February. If I do end up with more work for the project my availability will be rather limited. But if not, I will likely open for a larger batch of commission work.
In the past months I have been very focused on my well-being, on building routine and also on finding a work-life balance that is healthy. I'm doing well and I'm genuinely happy with where I am at the moment, even if there is still always room to do better. As always all of you have been a rock in my life, providing me with support, encouragement and kindness that never ceases to humble me and while I haven't been as good about responding to comments and messages lately, I assure you that I read everything and am incredibly appreciative of your words.
Thanks to all of you, keep being awesome and I wish you all a lovely month and ending to the year. I know this time is rough for some of you, too - and I'm wishing you strength and love to make it through. Keep an eye on your friends, and also on yourself. <3

Where are you staying?
The Estrel.
Means of transportation?
I'll be driving.
What is your gender?
*ferengi voice* Feeeeemale.
Who will you be with?
Friends! And whoever I run into I suppose.
Relationship Status:
Not available.
How old are you?
28
How tall are you?
169cm or 5'6".
Which languages do you speak?
Dutch, English. A little bit of German and Swedish.
Where will you be most of the time during the day?
While the Den is open, in the Den. Otherwise I'll just be walking around, relaxing, meeting folks and having drinks at the inside and outside bar!
Do you do free art?
Not by request. I might doodle some things for fun though!
Do you do commissions?
No. I appreciate the interest, truly, but I'm not attending the con to work.
Please don't ask or try to persuade me somehow, it won't work.
Do you have prints?
Yep! I'll be selling my prints in the Den.
What suit(s) will you have?
I'm not a suiter.
Can I dance with you?
If you happen to catch me dancing, sure!
Can I touch you?
Use common sense.
Can I talk to you?
Certainly!
Can I hug you?
Sure, no surprise hugs though. Just ask if you're uncertain!
Can I take photos of you/with you?
Sure, just let me know first.
Can I buy you lots of drinks?
I do not expect you'll catch me without a drink very often!
Do you smoke?
No.
Can I give you lots of money?
I mean I won't say no?
Can we hang out?
If you're cool, sure! Just please respect my space if I need it.
Are you nice?
I try to be!
Can we go out for a dinner?
I'm not making any plans, so maybe?
Are you buying art?
Most likely.
What do I have to watch out for, when I am meeting you?
Please be patient with me if I forgot who you are - I'm not very good at attaching names to faces quickly (certainly not if I'm meeting a lot of new faces in a short amount of time).
What is the best way to contact you?
Probably Twitter (@CaraidArt)
You look pretty tired, are you ok?
Probably am! Cons are the good kind of draining :D.
Last time/last con/last meet/last chat we talked so much and now you forgot my name? Why???
See two questions up.
Will you tell me your room-number and can I surprise visit you?
No.
I have a personal question for the convention. May I ask you that?
Sure!

RE: Drop in online activity
Posted 5 years agoAs some of you may have noticed I have been a bit less active online lately and have also not produced much art. I've had a lot going on in my personal life in the past weeks, months I'd say even, a lot of which has required a lot of my time and energy. I've been prioritizing my contract work for my drawing time and have struggled with even that as a baseline.
I'm doing better now mind you, and I'm taking time to focus on my health (both physical and mental), process past events and on building myself up. I am fortunate to have friends and family to support and encourage me and of course all of you who appreciate my work and have been patient with me in this time (I know a lot of you have expressed interest in commissioning me and I'm working towards being able to accept a batch in the near future, please bear with me there)!
I expect that I'll have days where I'm active and social and days when I'll need some space and time to myself, and it tends to be a bit unpredictable when it's one or the other so please forgive me if one day I'm really responsive and another I may be very difficult to reach. Thank you all <3.

Opened a Cubebrush store!
Posted 6 years agoFor those of you who may be interested in (narrated) timelapse videos of my work, brushes, high-res files and possibly PSDs somewhere down the road, I have recently opened a Cubebrush store where you can find them! Of course, all of these are also available on my Patreon, but I understand fully that some people may not want to commit to a monthly subscription and would prefer to just purchase a one-off thing. If you do, I hope that this is a solution!
Payments can be made through PayPal or with credit cards.

EF24!
Posted 6 years agoHey guys! Just a quick note that I will be attending EF again this year (4th time now, time flies!), but contrary to previous years I will now have a table in the Dealer's Den! I'll be selling prints, postcards, original work and maybe some special (for now unannounced) stuff if I can get around to it :).
I will most likely not be doing any trades, requests or on-the-spot commissions. Even though I do have a spot in the Den this year, I have always seen EF as a break from my usual work first and foremost, and every time I made an exception and decided to draw during the con I found myself regretting it and preferring to spend my time meeting people and enjoying myself instead.
I'm excited! First time I "officially" have a table of my own at a furry con.

In other news - it's December folks! I have a pretty packed planning for the coming weeks as I'm sure most people have. It is also the closing month, and that's usually the time when I start reflecting on the past year. It's been a rollercoaster ride for me that's for sure - three moves, of which one cross-country, I hit probably my deepest low earlier in the year and have fought my way back up over the summer. Right now I can finally say with confidence that I'm doing okay. My last personal piece was a blast and was immensely positively received on a few of my platforms which has been a huge boost to my confidence and motivation. I'm starting to be more structured and making an attempt to be on top of things, and to be positive. Always moving forward.
It's also been a year that's really driven home for me how much the art community means to me, both the artists and the appreciators, and my friends among them. There is so much good and beauty and amazing and inspiring things happening all the time if you pay attention, and I have made an effort to start paying attention. If there's anything this year has taught me, it's that negativity begets negativity - and more importantly that the opposite is true too. If you strive to be even the smallest positive influence in a community, or in a few people's lives, or even the life of just one person; that matters. Kindness and support have a way of paying themselves forward and finding their way back to you, as I have noticed more and more in the past months.
Don't use the bitterness, anger, judgement or misery of others as a justification for your own. You can choose to let it stop with you. I will certainly try at least.

Tonight: Stream + possible YCH!
Posted 6 years agoJust wanted to announce that tonight I will be streaming the final part of the speedpainting commission, and if there is time left I may start a new illustration that will be a YCH, for which I will welcome input from the stream audience :)!
Since the streams have been going quite well and they keep me focused, I may just set up a streaming schedule for the coming weeks to work through various commission types (which may I take either prior to or during the stream). I'll keep you guys posted!

We have moved!
Posted 6 years agoFINALLY.
My first journal from our new apartment - we have now officially moved into the new place and I am finally ready to re-focus on work as normal. The renovations took longer than we anticipated, the past few weeks have been day-in-day-out driving to and from the apartment, doing as much as we could do until our bodies gave up, went home, rested, slept, and did more of the same the next day.
Downside, I've been able to do barely any drawing at all and had to pretty much give up on keeping up with Inktober. I'm pretty bummed out about that, but I know my limits and they were definitely reached. I could not afford to spend half of my energy on the place and half of it on art, so I chose to focus entirely on getting the apartment done so that I could fully dedicate my time and energy to my work again afterwards.
On the upside, the apartment feels ours now. We have repainted practically everything (walls and ceilings, which was quite necessary), laid new floors, and put in all of our own, mostly new things that we bought together. I am still processing the fact that this will actually be our home for, well, as long as we want to live here probably. It's a bit unreal and I'm definitely anxious that something will go wrong and for some reason out of our control we will be forced to move again, as we have two times before now. I'm sure that feeling will fade with time.
Thanks to all of you for your patience, I know I have not kept up with my planned commission opening schedule, and at least two people are still waiting for art from me. I'm trying to get back into my working rhythm as quickly as possible and hopefully I will see you guys in a stream some time soon :3.

Flat colored sketches
Posted 6 years agoI have added flat colored sketches to my commission types! These will now be an option in my (roughly weekly) smaller commission openings.

Thank you & Speedpainting commission info
Posted 6 years agoThanks for entering in the commission raffle everyone! The winner this time around was garasaki :).
For those of you who are interested, I will open for ONE speedpainting commission soon that will be finished in September. This will be an artist's choice commission opening where I will invite people to share their character(s) and setting ideas (if any).
For the sake of transparency, I will disclose what I'm less likely to choose this time around. The reason why I say "less likely" is because 1) it is very difficult for me to narrow down what I'm more likely to feel inspired by, since inspiration can really come from all angles for me and is highly circumstantial (based on what I've done/been doing recently, and I don't just mean art-wise). And 2) there isn't really anything I can say with 100% certainty I would never choose, apart from those things that are in my ToS.
For paintings, I am generally less likely to choose:
• Highly specific ideas
• Furred characters with "tattoo markings" (note: not ACTUAL tattoos, but intricate tattoo-like designs as part of the fur coat)
• Something that is highly similar to a piece I've done recently or in the last piece of this type (in this case, a red wolf
in a natural setting, like "Breathe")
Thanks for reading and let me know if anything is unclear! <3

Artist's Choice
Posted 6 years agoI have chosen JengaReinwolf and Nicnak044 for the small commissions this time around!
As always I want to make sure that I keep in touch with you all. Since this is now the second time I've done artist's choice I'm curious how you guys (especially those who submitted their characters) feel about this as a commission method at the moment, and whether or not you would like me to be transparent about why or how I make my choices. I can see how knowing my reasoning might help you understand and perhaps even employ tactics to increase your chances of being picked next time (for as far as that's possible), but I can also imagine that some might find it more fair if I keep these things to myself. I'm a bit on the fence about it myself.
Basically let me know how you feel about it, if you have any concerns or if you feel like it works out great (that is also good to know ;3). To clarify I will most likely not keep using this method as my only method of doing small commissions, but it is quite likely that it will become my primary method for taking larger commissions.

Regarding commissions!
Posted 6 years agoI apologize in advance for any confusion about my commission openings, I realize I completely forgot to inform you all about my plans for the coming weeks. August is going to be a rather busy month for me, I have things I need to get ready for EF, EF itself, several freelance assignments of which the deadlines are coming up and some personal plans that do not involve work.
With Stand Back! I have finished the last commission on my list which means I am now free to accept new commissions. As some of you may know, I have been thinking of exploring different ways to re-open both to have faster turnaround times, to open more often so that more people will have a chance to get something, and for me to have more control in what I end up drawing and especially painting. I have already previously announced that I will not be accepting any full color commissions for a while and that is unchanged for now. I will however be accepting smaller commissions (primarily stencils, sketches and icons) periodically for the coming weeks, where the accepted commissions will be finished on the same day. Having a quick turnaround time like that keeps things fun and stress-free for me and ensures quick results and faster re-openings for you guys. Plus, with my schedule being the way it is at the moment, having periodic, small openings are far easier to plan for.
Towards the end of August and the beginning of September I will be re-opening for larger commissions again (busts and speedpaintings) in a similar fashion and I will be exploring Livestream-based commissions where I accept commissions while streaming. I have never really done that before so any tips or suggestions on that would be welcome!
Thank you all for your patience, support, encouragement and the many kind words I've received from you all <3.

DA recovered & busy month!
Posted 6 years agoMy DA account has been recovered. I'm quite impressed with how quickly their support responded to me and fixed the issue. Thanks to everyone that commented!
On a different note: the past months I have accepted a fair amount of large freelance assignments that will definitely keep me busy throughout July - too busy to accept any larger commissions at any rate. I'm aware that quite a few people are interested in commissioning me and I am sorry for the wait there. My plan is to finish the illustration that is still left on the list hopefully this week, after which I will do a few "on the day" commission openings where I will accept and complete commissions on the same day. That way I won't clog up my schedule but people will still have an opportunity to snag a piece from me. I will announce these days beforehand to give people some time to prepare and decide if they want to go for it or not :).
