Stupid realization

Weird, huh?
Weird, huh?
And now, an imprtant message. (NOT joking.)
Posted a year agoWith the recent passing of Jason David Frank and Kevin Conroy, I think it's important to say that in playing heroes, they had some of the most important jobs imaginable.
An important announcement.

Dumb D&D Observation
Posted 2 years agoWhy are there no modules based on D&D computer/video games? That would be awesome.
I know a lot of people are gonna point to Baldur's Gate. But there are so many more.
-The Icewind Dale Games.
-The Eye of the Beholder Games.
-The Gold Box games.
The Temple of Elemental Evil module was turned into a computer game. Why can't the process be reversed?

My thoughts on the election...
Posted 7 years agoI don't really have any strong feelings about Trump winning. I will however, say this:
I'm already sick of seeing these "Trump didn't win. Hatred won. Misogyny won. Racism won." things. I'll believe that when it it's an actual argument and not a blatant appeal to guilt.
Consider this...
Some people might think Trump might actually have what it takes to fix our economic problems.
Some people may think that Trump was simply a lesser evil compared to Clinton and simply just wanted to make sure she wasn't elected.
There could be many reasons, but it all comes down to this...
Just because someone voted for Donald Trump to be the president of the united states does NOT mean that they agree with his views on race or sex.
Maybe it just means that they genuinely thought he was the best candidate available for the job.

Posted 8 years agoGone. Kaput. Dead.
Why?
I was expressing an opinion about the Metroid fandom to a friend, then my former friend-both shall remain nameless here- explodes at the two of us, dragging out something I thpught was settled like a year ago.And breaks off our friendship.
Then, when my other friend tries to ask why her name was dragged into this, she gets all sorts of half-hearted apologies and accusations of being manipulative.
Again, over a comment I made to my other friend, which WASN'T EVEN ABOUT MY FORMER FRIEND AT ALL,
Do I need that?
No.
Does she need that?
No.
Do I need that douche in my life?
Absolutely not. So I more or less blocked him wherever I could
Those who follow me on deviantart will know what I'm talking about in more detail.
The others? They'll have to ask, because I don't exactly feel like giving out anymore than I have to here.
*Sighs.*

Federation Force and self-entitlement
Posted 8 years agoIf anyone reading this has read my last journal, which I posted not even three hours ago, you will know that there is a petition for the cancellation of the upcoming game Metroid Prime: Federation force. Some reasons for the fan outcry are the admittedly cartoony graphical style, the addition of the Blast Ball minigame, and the fact that this game appears to focus on the Marine force of the Galactic Federation rather than main character Samus Aran, though I have heard that Kensuke Tanabe has mentioned Samus will appear in the game.
I can understand some dissapointment. After all, it's been at least five years since we saw Samus in a Metroid game. I'd have loved to see an announcement of Samus taking up the lead role again.
What I cannot understand, however, is this idea that a video game company should cancel development of a game because of the anger of whiny brats who have no real leg to stand on. This petition, and the negative outcry itself, is narcissistic, shallow, and emotionally manipulative.
I will outline why on four main points.
Point #1: Superficiality and the art style.
Yes, I admit, the super deformed art style doesn't look like something you'd find in a Metroid game.
Then again, neither did the Wind Waker's art style seem to fit in a Zelda game, especially after Ocarina of Time and Majora's MAsk. Hell, even I allowed myself to be a bit off put at first.
But when I played the game, you know what? The art style didn't matter, because the game was FUN.
And the gameplay looks fun in the trailers.
Saying that the game's art stylle will drag it down is almost litterally judging a book by its cover. There's no real analysis. It's just "WAAH!! This art style sucks, so the game's gonna suck!"
Point # 2: The abscense of Samus and the expansion of the universe.
-Halo 3: ODST
-Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7
-The Luigi's Mansion games
What do all of these games have in common?
They took focus away from the main character of the series they were part of to more or less expand the universe of the series. Is there a hard and fast rule that says that every Metroid game absolutely has to focus on Samus Aran.
I don't see it. There is no logical objection to the idea of expanding the Metroid universe by focusing on the bit players. And I don't want to hear "Well, it's been so long since we've had a Metroid game with Samus in it".
Which leads me to...
Point #3: Fan entitlement and emotional manipulation.
Sooner or later, someone is going to tell me that I'm wrong and that the fans should be listened to or some such nonsense, or that the fans are being mistreated by the existence of this game, or something like that.
This is an argument I really really really really really really REALLY hate.
And I've just recently figured out why.
https://yourlogicalfallacyis.com/appeal-to-emotion
That's right, "We're the fans!" isn't even a real argument. It's emotional manipulation. It's the same shit that the Joker pulled to put HArvey Dent on a rampage on the Dark knight. These people KNOW they can't muster up a good defense of their viewpoints, so they go to the fandom excuse which is just that. AN EXCUSE.
Just because your expectations were not met does NOT give you the right to whine about how you're supposed to be god. It's naked narcissism and it should be looked down upon.
Point #4: The hijacking of Change.org
I admit, I've signed petitions on Change.org myself. I don't remember all of them, but they tended to be somewhere along the lines of...
-Help overturn a wrongful conviction.
-Help stop child labor.
-Help save an endangered species.
-Help find a missing child.
-Help procure justice for someone who dies because of wrongdoing.
Basically stuff that could potentially help make the world a better place. Nowadays, I'm under no illusion that these petitions count for anything but asking Nintendo to cancel a video game just because it doesn't cater to your whims?
For shame, people. For FUCKING shame.
So there you have it. All the reasons why this pisses me off,
And if I can channel Pat Condell for a bit, I can say all of this with all due respect, because NO respect is due. Because this petition and the people who back it don't deserve respect. Their views are infantile, self-righteous, and emotionall manipulative. The people are demanding respect, and as Condell himself said in his video "Why does religion deserve respect?", anyone who has to demand respect automatically deserves to be ridiculed.
So there you have it. THIS is why I find it harder and harder to be a Metroid fan. Do I really want to be part of a community that cries foul every time their egos aren't being massaged?
Hell, right now, I'm not sure I wanna live on this planet anymore.

People crying to their mommies about how the universe is supposed to cowtow to them is supposed to be a valid argument now?!

After playing Hyrule Warriors, a few observations.
Posted 9 years ago1: Lana is fucking adorable.
2: HW Ganon is now officially tied with OoT Ganon for my favorite incarnation of Ganondorf's inner beast.
3: I love that Ganondorf's tier 3 weapons aren't even swords so much as they look like spikey slabs of barely cooled magma.
4: Putting in the white and magic swords was a nice lil' fan service.
5. I still want a Demise costume for Ganondorf. And yes, I know it's old.
6: I'd like to see Ganondorf's Wind Waker swords as a skin for his great swords in a DLC pack.
7: If I were to put this game anywhere in the Zelda timeline, it'd be the tail end of the Child timeline, mostly because of the games being drawn from and Ganondorf being split into four pieces reminding me of his fate at the end of Four Sword Adventures. But that's just my take on it.

Posted 9 years agoAn observation
Posted 9 years agoThe Lego Marvel video games showcase almost all for Marvels heroes.
The Lego DC video games focus on Batman. Even when the second game introduced more characters from the DC universe, it was still a BATMAN game. "DC superheroes" was a subtitle. Even the upcoming game is Lego BATMAN 3.
Batman is one of my favorite superheroes, but I have to be honest. When it comes to actually utilizing their roster, Marvel wins.

The guilty party
Posted 10 years agoListening to the newest Big Picture episode, I am once again reminded of a simple fact.
Success does NOT necessarily equal quality. The REAL determinator of the success of anything is the AUDIENCE.
The Transformers movies are successful despite their supposed flaws, real or not, because of the AUDIENCE.
The DMC remake failed financially despite what anyone thought of it because of the AUDIENCE.
Every movie in before the seventies, despite the wooden lifeless "acting", that ever succeeded did so because of the AUDIENCE.
You're free to debate this truth with me, but on some level, it's still a truth. I belive the V for Vendetta movie put it best:
"But again, truth be told, if you're looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror."

I am NOT the real Mandarin
Posted 9 years agoI love the Iron Man movies, and I love the Marvel Studios movies in general. But Iron Man is one of my favorites. Partially for Robert Downey Jr., partially for the humor, and partially for the themes I find in the films.
I loved Iron Man 3, even though it deviated from from the comics in the Mandarin becoming a front for a war mongering prick in the movie rather than an alien-enhanced wizard from the comics.
A possible view of why this twist works can be viewed here.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0nUi9ksxbHA
This journal however, is not about the points Bob Chipman tries to make.
It’s about a third point.
How playing the Mandarin completely straight would have ultimately betrayed the theme I find the in the movies. Which theme is that?
Self-Improvement.
The Iron Man movies don’t just strike me as being about Tony Stark, the badass superhero in an armored suit. They also stike me as being about Tony Stark, the narcissistic playboy who has to learn to be a better person one step at a time. And each of the movies has done that to one extent or the other.
Iron Man 1 is about Tony realizing the harm he’s done to the world with his weapons company and embarking on the first steps to correct this.
Iron Man 2 is about Tony facing his fear of death, his troubles with communicating his problems, and his troubles accepting help.
His arc in the Avengers ends with him realizing that you can’t always diffuse the bomb. Sometimes you have to redirect the bomb even if it might kill you.
In Iron Man 3, Tony learns that yes, your past actions can have consequences that can come back to haunt you.
In the comics, the Mandarin is a Chinese man who happened upon ten alien rings and more or less became Iron Man’s enemy by persistence and timing.
In Iron Man 3, the character of the Mandarin is played by a drug addict while the true villain is someone that Tony had played a drunken prank on before becoming Iron Man.
In Iron Man 3 Tony, true to his words, had created his own demons.
This is why the movie Mandarin works for me. What is there to be learned, what character can be developed, when the villain is ultimately just a Fu Man Chu/ DR. Doom love child?
In the end, none. Tony would have learned nothing, and it would not have been as meaningful.
Sometimes, a straight adaptation can actually HURT a story. Or in this case, the overall theme of a series of stories.
I truly feel, that playing the Mandarin 100% straight could have ended up as one of those times. And I’m glad they didn’t.

Here's an example of how my brain works.
Posted 10 years agoI am NEVER impressed by rants about the state of gaming/music/television/movies/any other entertainment. I have no reason to be, nor should anyone else.
99.9% of the time it just translates to "This should be tailored to MY needs and MY wants! I don't care about market forces! Everyone is stupid but me! I should be God! Me me me me whine whine me me mine me myself me whine me myself! Did I mention me yet? Well, MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111111111111111111111111111"

This is fucking NARCISSISM!!
How am I supposed to live in an objective reality where this kind of infantile behavior is acceptable?
