Mosaics like this are so rare in England that the Archaeologists that uncovered it thought that initially it was a hoax! Its a beautiful piece, however.

Rich Roman settlement found under British Road

http://www.livescience.com/58581-ph.....yorkshire.html
Roadworks to revamp Britains longest road, the A1,Yorkshire, have been delayed after a large archeological find uncovered Roman treasures and artifacts beneath it, including a major settlement (The largest found in the UK to date known as Cataractonium.) and some artifacts implying that the settlement was wealthy, including figures carved from amber and pots implying that it was a place where coins were produced.
This is extremely exciting and Im excited to see what else will be discovered as this roads renovation continues.

Updates + Feedback + News
Posted 7 years agoUnfortunately my laptop decided it was time for its final sun set last night, and died, taking my documents with it. I'm going to have to rewrite my journal, so it may be a little longer! Its also why the group has been quiet as of late.
Anywho. We were wondering what you would like to see from the group. What would interest you the most. I will try and get a weekly schedule to dedicate time to finding exciting articles and writing up some of my own information between those.
I also wish to have a mascot contest at some point. I want to see designs for the groups mascot. Prizes will be on offer including art from me! But that will be for the future.
I was thinking at the end of each month I could possibly post a monthly masterjournal with any interesting Roman-related news articles on it. We could all contribute to it.
Possibly some Latin too?
Its honestly up to you guys. I have a lot of ideas for the group but it really depends what you want to see.

Roman Books?
Posted 7 years agoIm currently in the process of writing up a rather large factfile journal about my visit to Brementennacum yesterday, but until then, lets have a slightly smaller journal. Does anyone have any rather good Roman books to read? Ive read most of Mary Beards books along with Biographies on Augustus and Caesar by Adrian Goldsworthy. I also have an extremely interesting book about the citizens and lower class people of Rome called Invisible Romans by Robert Knapp.
I was also given a hilarious book for my birthday from my significant other titled "How to Manage Your Slaves" by Jerry Toner.
As well as these, I have a few different Latin dictionaries and a few information books on the military units and the likes. But plan to expand my collection and knowledge once I actually get a bookshelf.
What books have you read or could recommend to me? Im interested in both fiction and non-fiction.

Welcome to the page!
Posted 7 years agoWe welcome you to this Roman appreciation page. Its just started up, so we dont really have much layout or ideas lately, but we welcome any you have. If anyone has any feedback for the group and that theyd like to see we'd be more than happy to hear it. Eventually we will be writing and sharing articles based on various parts of the republic and the empire, from fact files the people and emperors, to the houses and the likes. We may also post some more comedic things, like jokes, which we will let our watchers help fill us in on. We're hoping to make a well rounded page for fans of Rome and furs from Rome alike to enjoy.
