Sloan Digital Sky Survey and Galaxy Zoo
Posted 9 years agoA few days ago I thought I'd jump onto Galaxy Zoo to have a look around.
Galaxy Zoo is a website that is set up so that anyone with an internet connection can help classify galaxies. Galaxy Zoo is necessary because there are so bloody many galaxies out there, that astronomers just don't have time to sit down and classify them all themselves.
It's a simple process, and at times you'll get to see some really cool spiral galaxies, or merging galaxies or even the "cosmic scarf," a neat portion of artifacts that made their way through the filters. You can check out Galaxy Zoo here.
One of the main surveys that people are classifying is the 'Sloan Digital Sky Survey,' or SDSS. This neat little video shows just what we can do when we have the technology, and someone with enough time to animate something this awesome.

What, a post?
Posted 9 years agoApparently I wrote a post, neat huh!
Check it out
There should be something more substantial coming soon, not flat earth related. Turns out no one really cares about that very much, guess it's just me.

Posted 9 years agoSo, while doing some research on satellites I found out something pretty damn neat, Brazilian ham radio operators use US military satellites as range extenders. Check it out here.

Symphony of Science - Melody Sheep
Posted 9 years agoMelody Sheep makes some pretty neat remixes of different things, most of it is comedy, but the remixes that are part of Symphony of Science, are great.

Also this little nugget of Charlie Chaplin from "The Great Dictator" is pretty damn good too.

Just for laughs
Posted 9 years agoI'm Back
Posted 9 years agoWell, it's been a little while since I've blogged or even visited this account.
You can read all about that here.
Looks like I'm going to be doing a small 'series' on flat earth "theory" in the coming few weeks, it'll be broken down into smaller segments, each tackling a single claim at a time.
Well, see you then,

Some cool things
Posted 9 years agoSo, I was watching one of the more recent episodes of the Ra-Men podcast, and learned about something interesting. Well, two things really.
The first one being that this is a thing: Sinornithosaurus
A feathered dinosaur with poison glands and fangs in it's mouth. Fossils are visually similar to that of archeopteryx in some regards.
The second being the avian respiratory system. It's far more efficient than ours, and comprises several air sacks which allow air flow through the lungs to be uni-directional, and constant. Some good animations and diagrams can be found here: Bird Respiration
The Ra-Men episode
Some other neat stuff:
Floating solar panels They help prevent evaporation, and are 57% more efficient.
Some reading about the Cambrian
