Meet Ever!
Ever is a cat/dragon. This is a SFW fursona.
Colors: ivory, black, and shades of brown with rust accents. Nose, paw pads, and spikes are mint. Eyes are a mustard yellow.
Behaviors
Cute cat behaviors (like funny cat videos)
Easily distracted, short attention span, a bit dumb
Curious, likes to explore
Playful, mischievous, likes to climb and pounce
Will often horde or steal things
lives to help others
Abilities
Adapted to live on rocky cliffs. Good at leaping and gliding between narrow ledges. Adapted for cold weather and snow.
Hunts birds and small prey in forests and cliff ledges.
Wings help her glide between cliff outcrops. Wings aren't strong enough to get lift and are only for gliding.
Species: Clever
Clevers are creature companions to their human counterparts.
Clevers are the embodiment of their human's emotions and thoughts at the time of their creation.
No two clevers look the same because each clever is unique to its human.
Their design comes from combining plants, animals, and things in nature (like snow).
In the second age, when the world was still young, the gods left humans the task of filling the world with creatures and beasts. This was achieved through motes of magic, called Enuma Elish.
How it works: When the Enuma Elish, the magic speck, makes contact with a human, it draws a drop of blood and then absorbs the nearby matter (like a mini black hole). The Enuma Elish then rearranges the matter into a new creature using the human's blood as the blueprint. This creature then becomes a champion or companion to their human. The design and temperament of the creature is determined by their human's goals, wishes, or state of mind at the time the blood was drawn. Bound to their human through the shared blood, clevers had an intelligence equal to their human. This intelligence is what earned them the name "clever" and is what separates them from common beasts.
If the human dies, the creature will continue to exist, but its mind will revert to a more animalistic, or monstrous nature (how tame or dangerous they became depended on the design and temperament at their creation). Powerful clevers that had turned monstrous would often be hunted and killed by knights or adventurers. This was the origin for most mythical beasts or monsters from myth or folklore -- dragon, hydra, griffin, etc.
Ever's Origin
A couple abandoned a child in the mountains, intending it to die in the cold. The god who made the cliffside burned in anger but could not intervene because the age of gods had ended and they could no longer walk the earth. But there was one thing he could do. The gods rarely gave the gift of the Enuma Elish anymore because it often ended in calamity. The god knew the risks but his heart burned to help the dying child. And so he dusted his hands, sending tiny glowing particles of creation magic into the air, like dust caught in a sunbeam. The wind caught the magic particles, spinning them through the trees. Thankfully, one landed on the child who had crawled under the boughs of a pine tree to get out of the cold. The mote landed on the child's nose, blue with cold and drew a drop of blood. It ripped up the pine tree, the snow and icicles hanging from its boughs, the bird who was also seeking shelter, the cat who had long since wandered out of the nearby town and lived wild in the forest hunting birds, and the curious mountain goat who had wandered over to sniff at the newcomer. All were sacrificed to save the child. The Enuma Elish combined the elements into a clever. In the blood it saw deep sadness, fear, and a desperation to survive. But it also saw playfulness, mischievousness, curiosity, and love.
The newly created clever knew its purpose and shielded the child with her wings and warmed him with her thick winter fur. It carried him to a cave it found on the side of the cliff and fed him with meat and berries. The clever named herself Ever and together they survived, and, when the weather cleared, played.
But one day a wandering trader crossing over from the other side of the mountains saw Ever springing from treetop to treetop. Being familiar with the tales of how clevers turned into monsters and fearing for the village, told the others what he had seen. A troop was assembled. When the warriors found the cliff and the small child covered in furs and the beast that guarded it., they realized their mistake. But they had come so far and they were so determined to be heroes in the eyes of the people that they attacked anyway. They managed to separate them and kill the child but Ever escaped down the cliffs. But since the child had been killed, the blood magic that had bound them was broken and Ever lost her intelligence.
She still retained some of her instincts to protect, defend, and still liked to play and explore, but she was much more beast and instinct could no longer speak and her memories became much foggier.
