So.... last week I decided to try out the Linux OS fedora, it was super pretty and I quite liked it except that it MURDERED my windows 7 install and had a lot of trouble booting itself. So as I really needed windows I spent about 4 days trying to get windows working again, trying everything I could think of. Oh yeah Fedora also decided it would be fun to murder my data partition that only had MY ENTIRE FREAKING DIGITAL LIFE ON IT!!! Including all my photos, art, program source code, uni work and everything else and it has probably been about 10 months since I did a backup. So I did what I could and did some groovy Linux things and backed up what I could salvage of my files(with a great chance they would be unreadable later). Wiped my hard disk and reinstalled windows. I rewrote all of the data I had salvaged, but alas it was unreadable.
Luckily I found a FREE file recovery tool which is right now resurrecting my files. Unfortunately it doesn't give back the names and just dumps them all into folders as it finds them. And as it's so far found about 61,000 files I think I'm going to have a lot of sifting through zombie files to do... But it's way better than no files at all.
The lessons here.
1. Fedora is a back-stabbing OS murderer and
2. BACKUP YO FILES before attempting a second OS install!!!
