Does anyone know about or use Barq?
I've received three random Telegram messages attempting to contact me over the last few months from people finding me, or at least my Telegram, on this trashy-sounding mobile app for finding furries.
I'd never heard of it until a few months ago when I was contacted by someone who apparently found me and my Telegram there and wanted to chat. I informed them I had no idea what Barq was and that I do not have an account but politely said I wouldn't mind chatting either way since I don't mind random messages and am always willing to meet new people to talk to so it didn't bother me much aside from the confusion of someone possibly impersonating me on this app.
That quickly went south as after a few responses they would come to me the next day asking to be my sugar daddy and offering to pay me $500 a week to meet them IRL and take me out shopping with them; I quickly stopped responding at that point feeling extremely uncomfortable.
A few months later I would suddenly get another message from someone asking me about meeting me on Barq and asking to chat on telegram because it was easier; I informed them that I have no idea who they were talking to/about but the person they met wasn't me and the conversation ended there with them suddenly deleting their Telegram and our few brief responses.
Today I ended up getting a similar Telegram message from someone finding me on Barq and wishing to talk to which I quickly said I have no idea what this app is and that I'm not whoever they talked to on it. I asked them to show me this profile of who they're talking about since I'm not going to make an account to try and find out myself and they responded a few minutes later saying they already deleted the app because it was laggy and then deleted their Telegram account in the middle of me trying to respond to them.
With all three of these encounters, I've noticed these similarities:
1. Their Telegram bios were very simple age, sex, and orientation setups; all of which were my age.
2. They all had two or three pictures of their/a sona they might or might not actually own and one IRL picture of themselves
3. Each one of them was dressed in army/navy attire in their IRL photos.
4. As mentioned, with two of them at least, they almost instantly deleted their telegrams after I started asking about who they contacted to somehow get to me on Telegram.
