New payment Processors, and some Changes for PayPal Payme...
Happy Friday to everyone, I hope you're all ready for a great weekend. I have some good news and bad news with this update.
The good news is that I'm set up to accept 3 new payment processors; Zelle, Venmo, and Square. I'm still on the hunt for even more options so that you all have more options to pay with, and so that I am not beholden to only one corporation should anything happen. Gotta diversify as they say.
Now on to the bad news. Inflation is hitting everyone hard, and I have resisted upping my prices to match it because quite frankly I think the rates I have now are still fair and I don't want to add on to everything else that's increasing in price for people. However that means my income is not keeping up with inflation and things are getting tight budget wise. So I've come up with a solution to this that won't involve me raising my rates.
People who've used PayPal, especially to sell, may know that like many payment processors they take a fee every time you receive money (that isn't marked as "to friends/family"). It seems small but when you are a small freelancer PayPal's 3% take really adds up. So unfortunately because of the inflation I'm going to start shifting this 3% onto the customer's end. People who pay with PayPal, Square (or any future payment method that has a processing fee), will see an upcharge reflecting the percentage of that processing fee.
I really hate doing this, which is why I've been just eating the processing fee for as long as I have, but the current state of the economy has made that unsustainable.
Payment methods that don't have a processing fee, like Zelle and Venmo, will see no such upcharge and will continue on using my normal rates. The upcharge will ONLY be for payment methods that have that processing fee.
I'll start getting into the habit at the beginning of a commission to ask which payment method you, the commissioner, will be using so I can give accurate quotes. I appreciate all of you more than words can really convey. I hope to continue drawing lovely art for you for a long time to come.
