kent state is trying to collect on the tuition they charged me for when my financial aid ran out. i, uh, obviously do not have $5k~ just laying around because i'm a millennial with a full time job living under the poverty line and the sole income for my family. i currently have ~30 days to either pay something significant on this (or all of it) or the debt collectors are taking the case to court to obtain a garnishment. the attorneys at the office have explictly told me it's easier for them to go through the courts to get the maximum amount they legally can from me each month ($500~) than to let me pay off a lesser amount over a longer period of time.
if my pay is garnished, the state of ohio allows 25% to be taken from each paycheck, pre-tax. in my case, this will be something to the tune of $250 every two weeks. i will absolutely not be able to pay my bills or my rent in that situation. or i won't be able to buy food. it'll be that kind of decision for the 10~ months it will take to pay off the $5,800 debt
everyone's broke! i get it, i am too. my credit is also abysmal and i can't get a debt consolidation loan because of that. this is the only option i have right now, short of bankruptcy (which also takes money, and time to do) so fingers crossed, i guess
goal is set at $6k because it continues to accrue interest during this time and i don't know what that may turn out to be. anything over what goes to the debt collectors will go to bills
i also have a variety of links, including commission info and my ko-fi shop listed on my carrd, if you'd prefer to help in that manner
