The New Year (2024), What's the plan?
5 months agoEven if it is slow going.
I'm gonna be working to get Chapter 10 done by the end of the year and finally get that story back on track. I've been ready to get this story finished for a while.
Even though nothing new has come out lately, it doesn't mean that I haven't been working on stuff. Part of the issues with Chapter 10 taking longer than expected is outlining a subplot or two regarding a couple of the characters introduced in Chapter 10. That way I can keep better track of my timeline and know when certain characters will be in specific places.
Chapter 10 itself if coming along nicely, about 40% drafted. Really excited to get to a particular scene and get into some cool stuff! Really wanna come back to this story with something strong y'know?
In other news, I've been staving off a depressive episode which in itself hurts my rate of production. I'm hanging in there, but some days it's just really hard to work up the energy to be creative.
Fighting off depression has kinda been a whole year ordeal. Kinda why the edits for S&S slowed down to a screeching halt at the end of March. That and life stuff happening, but that's not what y'all are here for.
It was also a little demoralizing to see how little NEW stuff I had written this year. So much was taken up by edits, edits that needed to be done but took time and focus away from other ideas. Seriously, the main gallery saw MAYBE a dozen new uploads. Yeah, a slow year. Sorry...
The edits for Intramorph's stories and the edits for Draconis' chapters took a LOT longer than I had hoped. They also added a few hundred to a thousand extra words per piece which took even more time. I had printed out the original 9 chapters of S&S to work on red pen edits and that made about 50 pages of words. Almost every chapter got another page or two, and some got more than that. I'd guess that chapters got like...30% longer. The story for both was relatively untouched, just adding in more clarifying detail as well as a few more hints at ideas introduced in later chapters to make things a little more cohesive.
S&S chapter 9 got COMPLETELY overhauled as the new, more detailed, outline came into view and I had a better idea of how to get to certain plot points and whatnot.
But that's all reflection on 2023.
What about 2024?
Well, the core goal is to finish Draconis: Scales & Scars in its entirety. Guesstimating that to be somewhere between 20 and 30 chapters. The outline isn't exactly broken down into clean chapters, aside from the immediate chunk of chapters centered on the Upper Crust Ranch location. Hoping to land somewhere around 23 chapters? Again, guesstimating from the outline.
Intramorph and Ryker's whole world isn't really going to see much. I won't make any promises on that story reaching its conclusion anytime soon. That story is also outlined, but I want to commit to finishing one big story before getting to the other.
I want to do more short story pieces or maybe some flash fiction-ish stuff next year. I had a lot of fun working on the My Ghost Roommate stuff. It felt good to get a complete story done. All the more reason as to why I want to finish Draconis so badly.
January 13th will mark the 3rd anniversary of me joining FA and engaging with the furry community as a whole beyond just lurking. Maybe I'll do a quick little something for that. I didn't last year so it could go either way honestly. Been kinda itching to revisit the Altered View Valley ideas. Who knows.
I also really want to post my Halloween stories that I've written over the past few years, but they aren't particularly furry-centric. The story for the one I wrote this year turned out pretty good and was a good exercise in managing multiple plots beyond focusing on one core story. It was really nice. The one I have planned for 2024 will turn out so awesome, I can FEEL it! The Halloween costume is already basically entirely assembled beyond a few accessories here and there with too many props that my wallet is starting to cry over. Help. I think I have a problem.
Anyway, I think that's it for my own stuff, so I'll end it here. Have a good night!
