~Scott_Ruggels
My Name is Scott Ruggels and I am a long time professional and instructor in the computer games industry. Before then I was an illustrator, and inker in the Comic Book Industry. I was also an illustrator for several table top Role-playing game companies in the 1980's and 1990's. I have been drawing since I could hold a ball point pen. I was an avid table top role-player, and used to participate heavily in WW2 Re-enactments. I have interested in History, Science fiction, and fantasy. I've done some work for the movies,(see: IMDB) and enjoy watching them too. I am a Social and Fiscal Conservative with some Libertarian leanings and am a bit of a Second Amendment absolutist.
I work professionally in 3D, making models and some character animation, and since it's allowed here, I post some. I also prefer digital to traditional , because I live in a small apartment, that is hard to keep clean so I avoid the clutter and clean up of traditional media. However I always carry a sketchbook and a mechanical pencil and My ideas usually start with a sketch. The archives and the fandom are a hobby and a chance to meet people and see new art. I used to be an admin at Yerf, until it cratered in 2004. I can give critiques if asked, but be warned I am honest, especially if I feel someone is of low skill. Some of the artwork posted may predate the internet, back when fannish hobbies were conducted via the U.S. Mail, so YOu may look forward to that.
Poke around the gallery, and feel free to ask me questions. I'm usually up for a conversation.

Happy Birthday to me.
Many of you have noticed that I haven't posted anything since Last October. It's because, since then, I have been suffering from bouts of insomnia that have me falling asleep in mid afternoon like a Mediterranean. It has also prevented me from focusing on any task more than a few minutes long, so I have been having some art block. Other than that, I have been good with my health, with no pain. As for the insomnia, I did visit a sleep doctor, and he noted that my CPAP machine was subject to recall, and after an examination, declared that the CPAP even if working properly was the wrong type for my anatomy )Apparently I have a narrow jaw, and a wide tongue) So to change my prescriptions around I will have to go to a sleep survey on May 16th, and a Follow up on June 5th. Hopefully I can have this solved so I can resume drawing. I have joined a gym so as to improve my walking endurance, and be in better shape for surgery at the end of the year. Being able to focus on drawing again would be nice as well.
Other than that, I am still slogging away on Blender tutorials, to learn more, and get more fluid with it. But blender is showing it's remarkable depth. It took me about two weeks to get decent with Maya, and about a year to get fluent. It's taking me more than a year to get decent with Blender, as it has so many options, and procedures. It's more for me learning character animation and rigging, as I have had poor conversions with face rigs on characters, and may have to switch to Morph targets.
Here is hoping you all are having a smoother time with art than I am. Take care, and maintain your health.
