Poll Updates and Related Announcement
Just to update you all on a few things poll related:
1) My current plush pic poll will be ending Sunday (19/5/24) 3pm (Dublin time). As predicted the current poll is a very tight race right now with only a vote or two separating first and last place. DA only shows percentages so I can't give the numbers but it's enough to see that it's anyone's race so get voting if you haven't already:) link: https://www.deviantart.com/shadowultd/poll/Next-Plush-Pic-17-5-24-8464387
2) As mentioned in a featured comment under the poll (because DA doesn't have descriptions for polls....) I am planning on running this poll again next week minus the winner since the options are stacked this week. Let me know what you guys think of this idea and If I should do this for close poll in the future.
3) From now on I'm gonna include the date of the poll's creation in the title of the poll in a DD/MM/YY format. I'll likely run the polls for about 2 days from the time of their creation before collecting the results (Again DA doesn't let you end polls...) As for the time I've been listing it as Dublin time simply to avoid confusion since both Ireland and India use IST and this way I also get around time zone shifts too.
Now for the main announcement:
For future polls I plan on using strawpoll.com rather than DA's polling option. This is for numerous reasons 3 of which I've already listed above but will list again along with some more in the pro's/cons section below. For those of you who've been around a while you may remember that I used to use strawpoll.me for polls because it was quick an easy to use and didn't require an account to vote (which is something I forgot DA needs until recently...) Sadly it shut down a while ago now so I had reverted to using DA polls since a good chunk of my audience is there and at the time I was seldom posting polls. Now that I'm posting them on the regular I feel it's time to upgrade to something better. Here's that list of pro's/cons I mentioned earlier to show you what I mean.
Pros
- You don't need an account to vote
- I can allow multiple answers if applicable
- There is an optional section for a poll description which can allow me to give some context to what your voting on
- Polls have comment sections that again allow guests to comment without an account
- I can set the poll to end at a specific date/time and the site tells you how long is left
- I can do multiple poll types e.g. image polls
Cons
- Since I have a free account the site shows ads to poll viewers. Adblock Plus/Brave Browser gets around this though (at least in my limited testing)
- To avoid abuse I'm gonna have to set voting to once per IP address.
- The site blocks VPN usage. While this is an option it is a way to get around once per IP voting so I'm leaving it enabled
I only created my account today so there may be more cons that I'm not aware of yet. For the "Once per IP address rule" I'm assuming this gives everyone 1-3 votes which I'm ok with. Them being: mobile internet + house internet + maybe another. The only thing this changes for you is how I post polls on site. I will be posting a journal entry with a link to the poll. For non DA users I've already been doing it this way so the only thing that changes is the link to the poll itself.
Anyway that's enough rambling from me. Any feedback/suggestions let me know in the comments. Have a nice day!
