Hi, and welcome to my FA account. I don't draw, so don't expect any artwork here, although I'll post a photo or two once in a while. LiveJournal will continue to be my primary site for journals and random thoughts. Email (shiver.raccoon@gmail.com) is always welcome, but I'm not on IM very much these days.

Life Update and "The State of the Raccoon"
It's been so long since I did a "Life Update" post that I figured I might as well start over from the beginning...
I'm now 49 (!). After spending a few wonderful years living full-time in an RV trailer while driving around Canada and the US, I've settled down and bought a one-room cabin on 50 acres of woods, up in the "middle of nowhere" part of central Ontario (a 2 hours drive from the nearest Walmart). As you might have guessed, I don't like living in a city — too much noise, stress and traffic; not enough trees
This place is peaceful and quiet (although full of mosquitoes in June and July); I can't see or hear any neighbours. It's on a year-round road, although my own laneway is long and needs regular repair. Last year, I bought 1,800 watts of solar panels, and an ATV with a snow plow blade. I still can't stay here during the winter as I don't yet have a wood stove, so I'm house-sitting in the winter, as I have for the last few years. Unfortunately, this means that I can't have any pets yet... hopefully that situation will change next year.
In terms of a job, I'm still doing part-time software development, writing provisioning systems for telecommunications equipment. Nothing too interesting, but it pays the bills. Sometimes I wonder if I should look for something else, but this job lets me work from home, work part time, and with my choice of hours.
( Collapse )
I still travel, although it's much less often than 10 years ago. My big goal for 2020 is to make it up to Alaska for a few months. If I can manage to afford that, then maybe I will go to Europe in 2021.
Meanwhile, Happy New Year everyone, and I hope 2020 is a great year for you all.

Life is a journey, not a destination; set your goals, and try to do something every day (no matter how small) that brings you closer to them
