~Yippee
Artist & fursuiter, originally from Florida, currently living with and in San Jose, California. Old school furry ("SilverMuzzle"), but I generally don't like labels.

SOLD FRAZZ 13 (blue alien/tiger/husky/bunny/etc hybrid) built by frazzles626 and rosequoll in 2006 acquired 2013 SOLD
You might have seen these characters at conventions or community events. Charter member of the Fursuit Mailing list (1994), I've been into costume performing since 1994 (unless one counts the college mascot audition *mumble* years ago). Although I feel strongly about the importance of character (never headless unless urgent circumstances dictate) and preserving "the magic," I prefer to do my own thing, have fun spending time being my various fursuit characters, and hopefully inspire others to bring their own characters to life. Lead by example, rather than talk down to others. We all fursuit for various reasons. Sometimes I lead fursuit performance panels at conventions, including one called "The Power of Pretend":
FWA 2013 Guest of Honor!
EF15 (2009) Guest of Honor!
FFFF09 Champion!
FFFF Tournament of Champions (2011) champion!
Recipient of the Double Dog Doo Dah Glutton For Punishment Award at the 2011 Ocean City Doo Dah parade, and subsequent Pieasco guest of honor!
Furry News Network Fursuiter of the Month July 2011
ConiFur 1999 Guest of Honor!
Duckon IV Furry Track Guest of Honor! (1995)
I've started a Retro Art account, featuring my old art. (haven't been keeping this up lately) - also check my Scraps

Is your fursuit as "just me with fur"? it could be so much more, an idealized form of yourself, how you wish you could be, not just you but "you-plus". Look in the mirror; who do you see staring back? What is this fuzzy fellow all about? More outgoing, exciting, fun? Pretend that you ARE this fellow in the mirror, this is your fur, your muzzle, your tail. You can carry yourself differently, walk with confidence, joy, or stalk about for prey. You can show off this pretend character not just in actions, also just BEING. Walking. Don't just stand but bounce, pace, scan about. All these will help this fellow come to life. And once you pretend to be real, people will play along in this big game of pretend.

Quoth the 'yote... (Buzzfeed / Young Turks)
I got quoted in a Buzzfeed article which was later broadcast on The Young Turks (about 2m 20s in):
During a panel talk about professional fursuiting (being a mascot or theme park actor), “Yippee Coyote” described his fursona: "It's me, but more confident and outgoing. It's me but better."
This was from the panel that NexusFolf and WolfpupTK and I gave about Advanced Fursuiting and Mascot Performing. I explained that when developing a fursuit character of your fursona, it doesn't just have to be "me with fur" as I hear people say from time to time when asked why they skulk about like a human in a cumbersome costume and not try to make an effort to perform. In the fursuit, the character being portrayed can be imbued with more of the personality and qualities you wish to be. It can be "me but better."
The quote was kind of out of context, taken to mean it applies to not just fursuits but actual fursonas. It stuck out at me oddly, and I figured I'd explain the context.
One of the thousand-plus comments caught my eye:
First of all, it's not you. It's you in a suit where no one can see your face or body. You're no more yourself than a guy who claims to be a Klingon or a Stormtrooper or a Jedi. It's a costume, not a lifestyle.
Well, sure, we're all just people in suits, but it's the suspension of disbelief that makes it special. I don't REALLY believe I'm a bouncy coyote or sassy purple bunny, but we play pretend in costumes, and enjoy the imaginary creatures we bring to life.

Just so you know, hugging Pachinko (have had a crush on her since she was built)
at a couple of conventions is still a major highlight of those conventions for me.
