April 21, 1988.
The #1 song in the US was Billy Ocean's "Get Outta My Dreams, Get Into My Car" (in the UK, where people have considerably better musical tastes lol, the #1 single was "Heart" by Pet Shop Boys). American moviegoers put "Beetlejuice" on top at the box office. On television, viewers had a writers' strike to contend with (sound familiar?).
Oh yeah, and I recorded my first song. :D
I won't bother telling the story again, because I already did that two years ago. For those of you who came in late, the song can be heard here. Suffice it to say that it doesn't sound anything like the stuff I'm uploading these days.
Case in point: This month's new song, which is called "Walking Away". Recorded in February for FAWM, "Walking Away" was heavily inspired by the aforementioned Pet Shop Boys, especially their songs "Miracles" and "Some Speculation". I tried out some falsetto in this one, which was something I've wanted to do for a while. I'm pretty happy with how this came out. There are always things that could be better. The vocals could benefit from some echo effects or something, but I don't have the resources to make that happen. On the whole, it came out about as good as it could have given what I have to work with and my limited knowledge of how to make use of it. I'll likely try to do a better vocal track on it at some point.
No need to write anything about the subject matter; it's pretty obvious. This is probably about as close to "I Will Survive" as I'll ever come (at least I hope so) lol.
"Walking Away" (5:12)
Written and recorded February 2008
I've put up with you so long
Even though I knew that something was wrong
But now I'm heading for the door
I'm not gonna be your scapegoat anymore
I'm walking away from you tonight
I've finally found the strength to do what's right
I thought I'd always want you to be mine
But all the things you do just waste my time
I loved you more than you'll ever know
But now that seems like such a long time ago
Now you won't see me shedding tears
I'm putting myself first for the first time in years
I'm walking away from you tonight
I've finally found the strength to do what's right
I thought I'd always want you to be mine
But all the things you do just waste my time
Don't bother to apologize
I've heard these words before and I know that they're lies
I've no more patience for your games
Or time to listen to your delusional claims
I'm walking away from you tonight
I've finally found the strength to do what's right
I thought I'd always want you to be mine
But all the things you do just waste my time
All the things you do just waste my time
All the things you do just waste my time

You're a child of the eighties, aren't you? The electronic sound goes very well with your voice. Didn't now you were quite as much of a falsetto singer, but I'm sure Prince would appreciate the hommage .
Now excuse me while I comb my mullet before I drive to the disco in my new Biturbo.
Yeah, I pretty much am. I mean, I was born in '71, so I'm kind of a child of the '70s too, but it was around 1983 when I started buying music and developing my own musical tastes.
I can sing pretty high. I can hit the high notes (and the low notes) in a-ha's "Take On Me". I once had a Karaoke Revolution battle with :belicbear:, and we both got a perfect 100% on that song lol. It was awesome.
Now let me adjust my leg warmers before I jump into my Le Car to go down to the record store and buy the new Falco album.

Congratulations on twenty years of recording! This song was a good choice because it's definitely classic Kiffa! I enjoyed the disco-y drum beat. Great work!
Thanks! Yeah, I guess this one was a little bit appropriate after all. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw that Pet Shop Boys had the #1 song in the UK on that fateful day 20 years ago, seeing as this song is so influenced by them.
I really like this, Kiffa! When you come over to visit, I'll just have to stick a mic in your hand so you can sing for us the entire weekend. Even when we're hiking! *grins*
*hugs*
*hugs*
Thanks, Princess! I'll start practicing "The Sound Of Music" so I can sing it from a hilltop lol. ^_^ *hugs*
Wow Kiffa! This is a great song. Excellent job with controlling all that tricky high range stuff. No way could I make voice sound that good at that level... I knew you had it in you.
I think you're right about the effects thing... (although your voice still came out so well that it's hardly necessary!) you must be running everything straight into that recorder eh? Maybe try shopping around pawn shops and flea markets and used equipment stores for some bargain processing equipment. Everything has gone into software format now. You might be surprised at what you can find out there on the cheap. Keep rockin' pal.

Thanks, Justin! Yeah, I'll bet you're right, I could probably get some good stuff cheap. The main problem is that I don't even know what to look for lol. I'm so tech-ignorant it's not even funny. At any rate, I'm learning that if I run my vocals through my synthesizer I can put some rudimentary 'effects' on them... I just haven't completely figured that process out. It was one of those discoveries that I sort of made by accident and then couldn't remember exactly how I did it lol.
Nice techno sound to it all. Having been raised with 80's music I'd say I've listened to a bit o' the stuff. Yep, that was when Mike was black. Those were better days I say.
Gah, I meant to reply to this ages ago... I've been really bad about keeping up with my messages/comments lately. Sorry about that. *^_^*
Better days is right! You have no idea how much I miss the '80s. Some would say I can't miss them too much, because I never left them lol.
Thanks for the nice comment and the +fav! ^_^

Ah, heck. 'Tis only true the '80s were better. Sometimes I wish I was born then. Sadly they weren't as technologically advanced as today where everyone has a cell phone or game system or etc...
Hard choice, huh?
I do have an idea of how much you miss the '80s.
1. You were born then.
2. People were smarter in a lot of ways.
3. Fitness wasn't as bad an issue as it is today. People were healthier when it came to food and exercise.
Hey, I liked the song. What can I say.

Not a hard choice for me lol. I still don't own a cell phone, and the last game system I owned was the Atari 2600. I'd take the 80's back in a heartbeat.
Okay, ALMOST everyone has a cell phone.
It may be easy for you but for me... well, I have five systems(not counting the comp) which makes it hard for me. Atari rocks, but I'd just as soon get a PS3 or such, ya know? I say combine the 80's and 90's in certain ways, since they're both great era's in their own respects.
