We don't know that. They may have tried for quite a while, or they may not have. We don't know. Plus who can say that peer pressure wasn't involved? I certainly don't know if it was. We only know that she's heartbroken and that he broke up with her because things weren't working out.
It's was probably in terms of there personalities, their likes and dislikes and not entirely their species, though if it is, it was probably out a reason to was due to external factors. Probably his family disapproved, or he didn't want to be the black sheep of the family. Maybe he wants a to be a father and doesn't think that they are biologically compatible. (Though we dont know what universe this takes place in, weather its Zootopia or Beastars or some other random anthro world.)
Another in their defense, Some people get aroused by emotional vulnerability. I have an old friend who was really into seeing women cry and expose that sort of thing to them though he was still there to soothe them and lend a caring shoulder since the person in distress came first he couldn't help but feel attracted to that.
While i agree it is a bit silly wanting to see a NSFW version of this pic but i dun wanna take sides so i am just also going to say .... It is just a pic .... Now I like to see art like this coming from you. Very strong and actually emotional, it’s relatable, and you can feel through the piece of art. As in, I hear their crying and I can see it happening in my head. A realistic scene.

It's so sad but also as an art piece it's very beautiful and emotional.

Especially since it looks like she puts on a tough girl kinda look and here she is letting her emotions out and just letting go of the pain she feels.

So from what I can tell she chose to break up with the guy instead of the other way around.
Correction: After examining my own chat boxes it's actually the guy who made the choice. You can tell by the fact the blue boxes are coming from the left side which is the side for incoming messages.
Sad, very sad, but I think the maturity this guy is trying to show is good. There's no malice or ulterior motive as far as can be seen.
Then again it depends on future images. Oh and if the guy actually is that shallow I think our little lioness might indulge in some instincts.

Im gonna assume that this is vent art. Its beautiful & captures a truely sad moment of heart break. Love can be a beautiful thing but also the most painfull thing in the world. Its so scary but it is embedded into our human DNA making it very hard to avoid. Here's to you during this difficult time. Bake some cookies, chat with buddies. Turning the pain into a positive is easier said than done, but in time the light will pass through. You just need people to talk to and distractions plenty :D FA is a good place to escape but don't feel shame to take a break if you need to.
This is sad. And after looking at it more I find a bit more context. Her boyfriend is a zebra and she appears to a cat of some kind. The poster on the wall "eat beans, not beings" suggests that predators and prey have a sort of "zootopia-esque" relationship and dating between a pred species and a prey species is uncommon and looks like it was too much for the zeeb to handle. That makes it just a bit sadder that it's likely society that made this relationship far apart rather than their feelings for one another.

If you can't deal with the claws, then you don't need a cat.
And a rather moving picture, and I do love seeing more of this character.

Awww this is terrible, I know how she feels because I've been there one too many times before in my life. The first breakup I've had when I was in my teens was the worst but over time I knew it wasn't going to work out in the end. Usually it'll take about a few weeks or a month to get over it and move on but the way I see it with this lioness's emotional state it might take a year. :( Wish I could give her a hug and tell her everything will be alright again.
