Just another sketch with a lore dump! :D
The Ajshar are an extremely prideful people, and after the human conquest there have been countless rebellions and uprising against the "hairless invaders". Due to this, in many regions human governors forbade the Ajshar from using any sorts of weapons and hopefully make it harder for them to slaughter soldiers on patrol every couple days.
This didn't stop them in the slightest, as the Ajshar simply retorted to use common tools instead. One of the most commonly used tools is the Tikaal, the "Claw", a sickle-like chopper used mainly for cutting vegetation but also for slaughtering animals and ritual sacrifices. As it quickly turned out, this weapon/tool was also excellent at piercing through gambeson and maille, making it a weapon of choice for non-human guerrillas. The Ajshar also developed a form of martial art around this weapon, called the "Dance of Claws". It involves a lot of grappling and dealing disabling blows by hooking the limbs of the enemy.
In the sketch here two Ajshar of two different tribes challenged each other to a duel using the Tikaal, probably after some insulting words that must be washed away with blood. Hopefully the duel will not end with the death of either opponent, but who knows for sure...

I'll be honest, I wouldn't mind learning this...if I was one of the Ajshar.
I’d join up with the ajshar if I could.. welp hopefully this has a happy ending.. to many humans to be fighting each other.. amazing work Olaf
Interesting backstory! Sounds like it was based upon the Okinawans or Hussites?
amazing drawning ! love this two character :) ! love this postions, love all this details ! i love you !!
looks like one smiles because he has the other enraged, which means an advantage in fighting with claws, of course... and the other looks grim because he is content to end this once and for all.
I have a feeling this won't be washed away by the blood of just one individual...

Terrific! Love how you work history into your illustrations! Nah, just a harmless sparring match......hopefully! hee hee Pissy kitties!
Most weapons were originally farming implements. The flail, with it's spiky ball attached to a handle via a chain, was originally something much more peaceful, used to thresh grain. Of course, it also did wonders against opponents with shields, as the chain and ball could wrap up and over the shield and pull it down or go further and injure the one using the shield.
I would love to teach them how to fight in air to air or in space combat. I bet that they would make a Worthy opponents or allies of the Terran Empire. Maybe we could learn from each other's cultures and possibly share technology and information.
