Picture/history of Eox:
Picture above.
Back in ye olde days Eox were one of the first Clans to form 'Fire Powder'(black powder) into an weapon device instead of something that would just burn quickly. In these early days Eox were actually more of a traveling potion and poultice making group of floating Wastrels. Occasionally helpful but generally looked down upon for their tendency to have most of their creations cause the patients to fall asleep - and when they woke up many of their valuables would be gone.
But it was this floating group that found the first small Nest that had stumbled upon by chance the right mixture of minerals and chemicals that would burn very violently. Krul Eox - the future first Commodore of Eox and current leader of the Wastrels with her family, spent nearly a week trying different mixed of all these different chemicals to try and improve the mix, and after losing two fingers to premature detonations she had got something that would...well...take fingers off in small quantities. It didn't take long for the Wastrels to be able to, with the small Nest's help, find a way to time the detonation of the powder with some burning line. And then they had hand held explosives that they could throw away from them to blow up in enemies face.
Krul and her family were now no longer floating as they beached at this tiny Nest's coastal home and never looked back. After years of work they came up with the first early firearm, and since then have been at the fore front of Eayn weaponry with the leadership of Eox often the ones in the labs and firing ranges trying different experiments that they made themselves*. The Eox gauntlet came into being because they wanted a nice hand held way to show their mastery (semi-mastery really) over this new technology. So something that was wrist mounted and portable was proto-typed and designed into the Eox Gauntlet that is still often used to this day.
* The experimentation didn't come without cost however. Eox consistently stayed at the fore front of projectile and explosive weaponry throughout all of Eyans history. But along with this they are the only main clan that isn't led by descendants of their founding family. As a bad batch exploded in an early factory, and wiped out the natural born Eox family. The Commodore of Eox still takes the name when they come into power as remembrance for those early mavericks and the legacy they left behind - but they are not born Eox as that line is gone. But the original name of Krul and her family as well as the original nest they integrated with are immortalized in Eox now. Eox now isn't embarrassed about it however, as to them these early pioneers were Hero's that set a series of ripples that soon all of Eayn answered too and respected them for.
Description:
*An important note*
For current Kig-Yar manufacturing techniques these are very hard to make unless you are Eox themselves or have outside (often Human) assistance. As such ones that aren't genuine Eox gauntlets have a tendency to blow up the wearers hand and wrist when used, often without even being shoved into anything.
Genuine Gauntlets, and even most fakes, are not what you would call concealable. Because of what they have to withstand to be more than a one shot wonder they are heavily built up and often quiet heavy. This was certainly the case in the early Eayn years where they were entirely steel, but now a days composite materials have helped to lighten the load that would be pulling you down on whatever arm you have the gauntlet equipped on. And these days you can even get almost exact look-a-likes of the Gauntlet except it is incredibly light and made for show. Many Pirate Lords have made raiders keep away from them by waving it around after the safety pin was removed, the click still the same. If you have not guessed by now these have quite a reputation with Kig-Yar of all breeds for how badly they can ruin your day.
From a mechanical standpoint the Gauntlets are decently simple as most of their complexity comes from their internal strengthening and safety systems as well as the explosive charge itself. At the most basic level the Gauntlet is a hollow cone or half circle that is worn so the mouth of the cone extends to just behind the wrist and hand. The cone or circle has a cover however so it is impossible to know if there is a charge inside or not unless you see it open. Here it rests until it is needed. Behind the cone is the slide where the cone rides on for its readying and recoil - the slide going to the users wrist. Often the springs inside are covered by a series of telescoping scale like pieces of metal that extend when the cone is in combat position and retract under recoil. But more basic models have simpler coverings.
On the outside of the Gauntlet, on the top of the weapon so it is easily usable by both right and left handed users, is the safety pin. The pin has two legs that performs the simple purpose of holding the Cone back so its not in the way of your hand and the much more vital purpose of keeping the firing pin away from the charge. When it is removed the cone of the Gauntlet slides forward to be just over the knuckles of the users fist, at its furthest forward position. This is the first click as the springs inside push the cone to its furthest forward point so it clinks against the front of the slide. The second clicks comes after this as the forward movement of the cone pulls the firing pin from its concealed position to being ready to fire since no pin is blocking it. The second click coming shortly after the first to let the Operator know that the weapon is armed.
Before the clicks happen however the weapon would have been loaded with its slightly smaller than fist sized shaped charge. The charge is the same shape as the holder, either cone or half circle, with a small protrusion out of the back. This small bump is what the firing pin will hit. And as long as the safety pin is on position you would be able to carry it loaded without it going off accidentally (mostly). And once it loaded the cover would be flipped up and its funny looking cord latch would be pulled back and locked to keep the cover closed. Close exanimation of the hatch latch would have people wondering why it looks like it can slide out, but its so you keep your hand, as will be explained lower.
Once the Gauntlet is fully armed the Hatch would be lowered so it would be resting against the users fisted up knuckles. The cord latch would then be held in the users fist to give them more control over the gauntlet and to help with the recoil. At this point a sharp jab into a target will shove the cone back a tiny amount which trips a catch which allows for the firing pin to shoot forward and hit the shaped charge to ignite it. Once the explosion happens and its lethal shockwave shot forward the cone would recoil harshly against its slide and springs and slams against the back of slide. But the springs as long as they are maintained should slow down the cone enough to prevent the welds on the cone failing and breaking off or for the slide to fail and for it to 'explode' out the back. But the pressure on the users are is still intense. The hatch that the user was holding would also separate from the Cone, as it is made to do, so their fingers aren't ripped off.
After you have shaken out your stinging arm (or iced it) reloading is a rather complex procedure. The Cone by now would return to the front of its slide. First the firing pin would be gripped and pulled backwards so it clicked back into its ready position. The Cone would be cleared of the remains of the shaped charge, the hatch slide back into the bottom of the cone, and then finally a new charge loaded and locked. You are then ready to boom again!
To make the Gauntlet safe after firing the firing pin would again be locked back, then cone then pulled back so it is back in its middle position, and then the safety pin slipped back into the Gauntlet - so don't lose the pin. The cover would then be re-slotted and closed over the empty or primed chamber. The likely still hot Gauntlet is then ready for walking around again.
No matter how often the Gauntlet is used, even if it is never used, regular maintenance is very important for these so they do not fail on you. As you do not want the cone to snap off at the worst time or worse the charge going off early or not at all due to a faulty firing pin.
Some fun Facts about the Gauntlet:
- Eox originally made them to keep Gel, their quickly approaching neighbors, away from them. They knew that they couldn't beat the T'vaoans in a fist fight. So instead they had to come up with something that would make the Gel warriors too scared to approach them if their early firearms needed to be reloaded. It was in its proto-type stages when Gel first started to arrive, so they had to rush it out and work out kinks and standardizations later.
- The earliest Gauntlet charges were simple Fire Powder satchels loaded into the cones. These were notoriously unreliable and prone to going off when you didn't want them. But these days they are very stable shaped charges that only have a low change of blowing off your hand.
- The clicking could be removed from models, but genuine ones keep it in for if the safety pin fails the operator will know if their gauntlet has suddenly activated if the pin wasn't removed.
- Due to the danger they pose to the wearer these are very rarely fielded by Eox these days, and the ones you see on their Keep and boarder guards are often the genuine article but have no explosives loaded into them - their reputation is often enough to discourage criminals. They are just a quick load away from that however but they are rarely carried loaded. The Commodore of Eox's personal guards have them loaded and ready to boom of course - to ensure their leaders safety.
- As mentioned above these aren't often carried around these days. Unlike for example Hul's tool, which is carried by nearly all of its citizens, only guards and police forces would even consider carrying one of them on their person. But if you need hand held destruction up close there isn't much better. So Cell and to a lesser extent Entourage use of the Gauntlet is much more widespread.
Reasoning:
This will be similar reasoning for all the Kiggy EWOK weapons. But its to add more depth and culture to the Kig-Yar as a whole whilst also giving them a good sense of racial identity and history as well as some practical and useful weapons. Practical may not be in the case with Eox, as their weapon is incredibly dangerous if used incorrectly to the wielder, but in a fight for your life you would probably take a broken wrist or lots of arm pain instead of losing your life.
However, despite the awesome power of the Clicker it still has the same downside as the other old Clan weapons and even more so than Gel and Sha because its attached to your wrist and wrist only. Its abysmal range is comparable to Hul's tool and getting in range to actually use it would often be very easily seen by your opponent, as would the devices audible click as its safety is removed. However, if you manage to get in range it is easily the most powerful of the Clan weapons - just requires a lot of speed or luck to get in range to use it before gunned down.

Wik - Ibie'Shan Pirate.
Assaulting Covenant Frigate Dagger of Faith
Wana shake your hand Sir!
Double checking his Covenant Carbine and two holsterd boarding pistols Wik nodded to himself as he pulled on the bandolier of Carbine canisters across his chest. Everything was ready. And his special surprise on his wrist was too...Heavy but ready. But he had been having issues with its safety over the pat few days so had a more simple serrated Kig-Yar combat knife strapped to his left arm if he didn't trust or want to toss his life to Lady Fates dice entirely. But Sangheili were nearly guaranteed to be here, so he wanted something nice and powerful if they decided to rush him.
"Wik, eyes front!" Snapping to attention and looking at the back of the Ruuthian in front of him he nodded. Same Ruuthian that had given him the Boom Fist he had no after his own wrist was broken from it a month back. Good guy Buz. "We'll be landing soon, move fast and lethal when we are inside."
"The air Mistress?" Wik heard a voice cheep up behind him, smirking a bit as the Ruuthian female raid lead rounded at the voice.
"Who in Aecor's name said that?!" Risking a glance back and catching the females ire Wik was at least glad to see it wasn't one of his fellow Ibie'Shan's that had asked it, the T'vaoan now trying to shrink back against the wall as the female stalked down the short double file line of waiting Kig-Yar toward the male.
"One rook out!" The voice of the females savior over the radio as the Ruuthian quickly scuttled back to the front and grabbed her own Plasma rifle and boarding pistol with a few spare shells.
"I don't know if you learned it yet idjit," the Ruuthian lead hissed out as she did some stretches. "But those shields are still in place and we'l just slip right through - no need to worry about air. Got the codes and everything we need from one of the split faces who wanted an out..." The small dropship shuddered as it passed through the shield membrane, followed by a series of humms and clicks as plasma weapons were activated and Kiggy weapons made ready to fire. "And his pick of the ship stores. He'll get all that he wants and a drop off wherever he wants. We pay our dues here for good work." Then the dull rumble and clank of the vessel settling down on the ground, the thumps and hisses of the plasma already hitting the front door of the dropship from the defenders. But all the Pirates in the dropship, and the other two that should have landed with them, just let their weapons hang on slings as they reached up to cover their ear holes and shut their eyes.
Shortly after this six deafening cracks and blinding flashes issued from all three dropships from built in boxes on the roof and belly of each. A second after those were set off the hidden side doors dropped from each craft and the Kiggy pirates quickly flowed out in drilled precision. The back door scorched badly from the plasma fire but it was never intending to open until they were safe back on their home ship.
The Unggoy, Kig-Yar, and Sangheili defenders were all still reeling from the triple dropship flashbang and were easy prey for the still very able Ibie'Shan and Ruuthian Pirates. Several of the Covenant Kig-Yar however clearly knew what was going to happen and had ducked behind something to shield themselves as they covered their ears, but not enough of there had done it and didn't have enough time to warn the others to stop the hanger take over. When the noise finally ceased from the screaming and weapon fire the pirates had suffered remarkably few causalities with the help of their incapacitating ordnance. And so they moved to secure the doors as the looting would come later as would the securing of prisoners if there was any. Sangheili especially went for a lot on the asteroid markets.
* A short corridor shootout and movement later *
The bridge was in sight now...Wik nodding to himself and reloading his Carbine as he stacked up with the five Kig boarding team, plus lead, on each side of the door. The other five from the dropship cleaning another hallway. It was locked down since it was still closed but the female Ruuthian lead started to poke at the door controls with the code they had been helpfully provided as the door's red light started to fluctuate. She then turned back to her team before the door opened suddenly and an energy sword swept out like lightning and severed her head from her long neck.
That sure got the rest of the team moving. All of them back peddled away from the door as two Sangheili spec ops leapt at them, cloaked by with swords fully out and active. But the two Sangheili had underestimated the pirates reaction time as so their leaping slashes only cracked the air in front of the two closest Kigs before the gunfire started in earnest and panic. Whether they had shields or not they were soon dropped by five main arms worth of fire. But then the fire came back at them just as much as what looked like the Major Domo bridge officers rushed at the pirates.
Wik barely had time to adjust his aim before the Ibie'Shan in front of him was hit in the chest, face, and throat and collapsed back into him. But he looked to the side as he started to fall back and saw that the other two were being melted as well. Quickly thinking as fast as he could and praying to Aecor and Lady Fate Wik went limp as his cooked comrade collapsed back over him from the shots.
Laying as still as he could and staring at the wall next to his beak he could hear the Shipmaster shouting at his officers. "Get moving! We will drive these scum back to their holes and then cleanse them all for their Heresy!" The tromping of Sangheili boots quickly moved down the hallway away from him and Wik took a deep breath and risked a glance. They were indeed all moving away from him, the Golden Ship Master at the rear like all Sangheili loved to be. Shoving his good smelling former friend off him, with a little sorry for his fate, Wik quickly got into a crouch as he looked at his boarding pistol at his thigh...It may pierce the shield and kill the Sangheili...but it would be a long shot and then he would be dead and the ShipMaster would walk until the crew found him. Only one thing for it then. Grabbing the safety pin of his Gauntlet he waited for the Sangheili to get a little further away before starting to jog after them and pull out the pin.
Click.
He was sprinting now, the Sangheili distracted by gunfire to their front as some of the other Pirates were heading for the bridge now.
Click.
The Shipmaster had clearly heard something behind him as he started to wheel around with plasma rifle in one hand and energy sword hilt in the other. But Wik was already in the air with his arm reeled back and starting to punch forward as he really hoped it would go off.
"Surprise!"

Buz - Ruuthian Pirate
Back on board Kig-Yar vessel Space Thorn
After action Report.
I think Wik will be remembered for a long time in this crew for the visage he cut leaping up behind those Sangheili and then coming down upon them with furious and explosive anger. From what we saw from down the hallway he hit the Sangheili somewhere around his chest or neck area. His golden helmet actually flew all the way to us from the explosion after his head had been blown off. Dunno if some of our slugs hit the split faces shield to weaken it or that was all my old Gauntlet but regardless the credit for the kill is all Wik's. The red Jelly were quick to fall after they were splattered with purple blood and then the ship was ours after rounding up a few hiding prisoners.
The Sangheili that gave us the info and location for this take over is being treated to a fine meal with the Captain for his help, and he will be dropped off at the holiday home he wanted with a nice pay off for his good work. We keep our word to those that help us. All the prisoners were loaded up as well and will net us even more Gekz when we sell them at one of the Asteroids.
Unfortunately Wik didn't survive...hence why he will be remembered. But he wasn't stabbed by the split face or shot no...and it pains me a bit to admit this but his skull was caved in when the explosive went off. The cone of my old Gauntlet broke free from the slide, sheered the welds right through, and cracked him in the head. I'm going to keep the cone and gauntlet to remind me to not let my old stuff fall into disrepair again as Wik was one hell of a Raider and quick thinker to trick those Sangheili. Thankfully we got it all on the ships cameras and 'Wik's Wild Run n boom' is going to be sent all across Kig-Yar space in his memory, and tonight the Sangheili said he would join us in a moment of silence before a drink to remember our fellows who fell today before their bodies are discharged into the Sea of Space and into Aecor's care. Especially Wik.

"Surprise!"
