Love this. Captures the grit of the movie that a lot of folks take for granted.
Yeah, Don Bluth didn't believe in pulling any punches when it came to mentally- and emotionally-scarring kids' movies, lol.
If memory serves, his philosophy on the matter was that, so long as there was a happy ending at the end, audiences would be willing to endure whatever dark turns the story took, and would come out of the movie feeling satisfied. I'd say he was right, personally.
Beautiful work, the fabric especially looks really good!
epic

“Courage of the heart is very rare. The stone has a power when it’s there.”
Thanks for sharing this dialogue.
The german version intensifies this a little:
"Ein tapferes Herz findet man selten: Der Stein hat große Kraft, wenn er eins gefunden hat."
"A couragous heart is hardly be found. The stone has great power, when it has found one."

Shame the rhyme didn’t really carry over, but I suppose that’s the difficulty with languages.
Incidentally, The Secret of NIMH was my introduction to Sir Derek Jacobi. Before I knew him as Professor Yana, before I knew him as Brother Cadfael, I knew him as Nicodemus.

Yes. The rhyme could not be translated in a way that it would meet the lip-sync
Closest would be this:
Selten Mut erglüht in Herzens Nacht,
Welcher Steines innre Kraft entfacht.
And the german voice actor for Nicodemus was the intro narrator for the 60s star trek tv show^^

Mrs. Brisby is my all-time favorite animated character. I've been in love with her since first seeing this film in the theater when it came on. I've always adored your art-I associate it with my becoming a furry and finding a home here in the community-so to see you draw her...it's a dream come true. Thank you so much.
Mrs. Brisby is perhaps one of the most impressive of heroes because she's just a mouse mom. She doesn't have special powers or knowledge. Even in the movie the stone only activates at the end. In the book there's not even that, but she still faces an owl and a cat in an effort to ensure the survival of her child.
As much as I love the scene with the stone I think it veered a little too much towards metaphor. From what Bluth & Goldman have said they were just looking for an excuse to show off their fancy new lighting method lol. I do so love that scene though...and Mrs. Bris for all those reasons and so many, many more.
An outstanding homage to one of the best films to come out of Hollywood. Nicely done!
What's most impressive is Secret of NIMH didn't really come out of Hollywood. Most of it was made in Don Bluth's garage. :)
Seconded. This was Bluth's response to getting kicked out of Hollywood. He wanted to show them he didn't need them to be great
I share your Art-Loss-Grief. Would have gone for that myself. But at least I nabbed a piece from her store last Saturday!
Courage of the heart is very rare.

one of my fave stores as a child Misses Frisbee and the rats of Mimi
Beautifully done. Loved the character of Mrs. Frisbee in the movie. You really don't come across this sort of protagonist too often. Right from the start, pure and simple mission: save her sick child. And even though she's way in over her own depth, nothing stops her from achieving her goal and showing remarkable bravery despite being a tiny mouse in a large and dangerous world.
This brings back memories. Incredible styling and her gaze into the stone is mesmerizing. Well done ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
She taught me to be brave, no matter if I feel weak or small sometimes.
Wonderfully done! The style and execution match the subject matter perfectly! I'm stunned!
Please tell me, was this done digitally or physically?

Verry nice piece!
Animation used to be so beautiful and a testament to the animator's artistic skill. Now, sadly, it's all gone CGI.
Fun Fact: Did you know that in the movie her name was originally "Mrs. Frisby"? It's true. Once the movie was finished, but before it was released, the Frisby company threatened to sue Bluth for using their brand's name without permission. To avoid a lawsuit he had to go back and edit out the name "Frisby" and re-record the dialogue track changing it to "Brisby". Bet that was a royal pain the ass!
Still, wonderful piece of art. Love it!

Randomly stumbled across this pic again and I just so happened to be listening to "Flying Dreams" on my phone XD
I love your small creatures work. Little animals re-purposing small discards for new uses.
