Glad you stuck with it! Unfortunate that people who act like that are so common.
God, if i could get a stable living on my art i would be s o happy. so glad you got to realize your dream!
-hugs Scarab- You draw whatever you want bb you are awesome!
You could just do an account of your raptor reacting to things and people would throw money at you for it.... it's just done so well
this is wholesome and i'm super happy everything worked out for you Halo!! :D
My mother said this about EVERY job. I wasn't a dual PhD astrophysicist/brain surgeon so I guess it wasn't good enough. Some people.
Heh, so true! And also, technically its more than just a mere job. Its your business too. Which sadly a lot of artists forsake when they pull bad PR cards
Once you're done with your queue, may I commission you too?
:D
This had to be done. It was a moral imperitive.

We do it for ourselves mostly - but still feels amazing to proof them wrong <3
I know the feeling. I wanted to be a writer when I was a kid, but my mom managed to crush the dream thoroughly and basically for the same reason. Nowadays I barely seem to get bits and pieces of ideas, and they rarely fit together at all.
I'm glad you stuck with it though and can make a living off your dream. Always nice to hear that someone succeeded in showing the world that anything is possible when you don't give up, no matter what the nay-sayers and haters say.
And, I mean, your art's really amazing and beyond gorgeous as well, so bonus points for that, heh.

Goodness, I feel that. xD
Lovely expressions and characters!
Lovely expressions and characters!
This reminds me of the sentence "Video games are a waste of time. There is no way to make money with it."
- The gaming industry in general makes more money than movie industry
- Good ESL players can make quite some money by winning tournaments and by contracts with companies
- Streamers and Let's Players on websides like youtube make money with it
- et cetera
I guess there is some money in gaming after all ;)
This pic made my day ^^
It's nice to see people making money by doning what they love to do. I hope you will always have fun doing art, no matter if it's for fun or to make a living.

It's true that the gaming industry makes more money than the movie industry, but only for the higher-ups the majority of the time. It's really only indie games that has the workers of the game benefiting from the game being made most of the time. Not to mention the workers being subject to crunch time a lot as well in AAA studios.
Yes, I heard about that.
Being an indie developer is a lot of work, but it can pay off. Also I think it's more likely to pay off the more dedicated you are to your projects. If you just want to make some cash the result will probaply not be as good as if you develope a game to make your dream/vision come true.
I also heard how tough it can be to work for a big developer. But still in both cases it is an actual job. I guess you don't have too much time to actually play as an developer and as long as it is not part of the developing process you don't get paid for it. So in this case it is true that there is no money in playing games.
But I guess we both agree there are ways to make a living by playing and/or developing games ^^

I mean, technically Q&A testers play the game as it's being developed for bug testing purposes so it is another possibility, but that's still subject to the crunch time and horrible work environments that are an unfortunately common sight in the gaming industry.
But yes, you can certainly make a living playing or making games, just gotta stick with it basically. I could go on and on about why they make so much money but I'd rather not, hah. (though to be fair, movies make less money because they essentially only make money twice off a movie whereas games can stuff microtransactions in)

There's a lot of personal pride from being one of the people who makes something like 'Bastion'... you have a more personal part in what everyone is gushing over.
I know the feeling, I even still get that feeling every once in a while... that my art isn't worth it. -he said gently- Sadly also part of my own insecurities in... a number of things.
I am so grateful to be able to do art for a living. And mega thankful had an artist mom who not only encouraged my arting but even helped me improve it.
Our culture is so indoctrinated to think the arts are wasted, I'm so glad Furries have seen through that BS.
Yeah this was my mom in a nutshell. She came down on me so hard that I couldn't even get a job like she wanted me to.
People may or may not pay for it, but no one better call maintaining and adding to the things that are beautiful or interesting 'not a real job' while I'M in the room.
