I'm sorry but I dont get this logic
You are commissioning the artist for THEIR style
Not someone else's???
Hell thats why I commission so many different people of my characters (especially Soul my pokesona cosplay OC)
I LOVE seeing different styles
Its fun to see the character being adapted to them!

I'd also like to point out
Asking an artist to do a piece in their old style ESPECIALLY YEARS after they made that first piece for you is uncalled for as well
Styles evolve and change over time, asking an artist to go back to that style is kinda hurtful, ya know?

On the one hand, it's their character... Their preference. It might not be the same preference as yours.
On the other, if you have an expensive preference, you best pay for it instead of lumping that preference onto someone else and expecting them to figure it out.
This applies to a lot more than just art.

I can say I'm guilty of this a few times... lol. I've asked artists to draw something in a specific style, and they were like exactly what you described in that comic lolololol
Well I hope you don't do it again then haha. Unless you have seen them draw in that style before. It's quite upsetting for some artists who aren't that confident in their own work.
Not anymore, the last time I did that was in probably 2015.
I think someday I might do it entirely by accident.
There are a few artists I like that collaborate so frequently together to handle different aspects of their pictures, I'm honestly not sure what each one's like without the others.

I wasn't aware this was a thing. I commission someone because I want their style for that particular piece. o_O
Also I love all the expressions. n___n

I haven't had this more than a handful of times. Best thing to do is send them your examples again and ask them to choose from there... because that is what they paid for! Stand your ground.
How did you react by the way?

It's actually never been a furry to do this to me, only people offline who find out I draw on the internet! Very lucky to not have it happen to me here specifically but I've certainly seen it happen to others here. ;v;
It seems common among people who don't understand the general basis of an artists style(s), so I'm generally very nice and try to explain it to them. If they were agro, I would just refund. :,D
I'd say the fandom is usually very good at knowing these types of basics since it's almost art involved! ^^

I remember telling an artist to draw my sona in their style, not the style of the ref sheet artist. That's the point I like seeing other people's interpretation of my character. Be right boring if he got drawn the same way every time.
Oh my god this happen to me every time
3D is easier than regular art once you have the models, but when they ask for something new is so damn hard to do

Oh, I can only imagine how bad it must be for 3D artists! I do 3D, but only a few things in practice right now... so I had no idea.
Oh I hate that soooo much! Each artist I employ has a fun style that I love. I enjoy the many flavors of style for my OC. ooof this hits home... Your style is amazing Halo! and I need more shakuras :D
"You're an artist, so you can recreate any picture, but cheaper, right?"
*rolls eyes*
That is a bit frustrating. I haven't encountered that, but the one that I have had to deal with which was frustrating was having someone ask me to draw free art of web comic characters doing something that would most definitely be out of character for them. Sorry, but I don't draw fetishized fan art, and definitely not for free.
They even tried to insist that it was okay because other people had already done it. GAH!

Pffft. Nah. I give the artist overarching free-reign to be like "Nah, I think I'd have fun doing this thing."
I love it when they do take that freedom. Some of the best pieces come from that level of freedom. ^,..,^

Well, that's just insulting. Why commission someone if you don't want their style? That's rough, buddy. Sorry.
Is this for real? Do people really do this?
I mean, I commission an artist for their style. When looking for a commission I look through the artist's gallery to see if they can match the feel I'm going for in the image; funny, cute, epic, serious, etc.

i've had this happen a loT when i was fresh off of tumblr years back- it really tore down at my confidence about my art <:/
like if people are gonna be like this, then they need to say so from the get-go xD thEN you can turn them down right off the bat and not have to deal with the trouble!
i try not to be that client either, because i knOW how picky i can get when it comes to my characters- so i'm very choosy with who i commission xD usually tho the only corrections i ask for are like, when people forget lil detail parts on my characters [like fins or smth] which happens a LOT
but that's why you tip em for their troubles :]

those people can shut it. i'd be blessed if i could commission you uwu
Uhh... in this case, isnt it better for the commision deal to end? Refund and thats it?
oh sadly i know this to well and had also commissioners like this :'D
uuuh uuuh ^^'
uuuh uuuh ^^'
Now that's just mean! No way to treat a hard-working fluffraptor artist.
Now I have run into the issue where I have asked the artist to change some anatomical feature because it didn't quite match, but at the same time I know part of it is the artist's style, but does that excuse doing something like taking human head shape for a base and then just slapping something like a dolphin beak on it?
Ugh this is the worst, it makes us feel so cheap and not special.
I had this happened once, I relinked my gallery and said " This is my art, not that"
Just ugh this one makes me empathize with anger xD

Would never do that. I'm amazed how many styles my character can come in. Its like a fingerprint
poor dino x3
but i remember tons of people who are a bit opposite XD like... they're SCARED to make (proper) corrections instead of going overboard like described.

True again. Thankfully this has only happened to me like 2 times ever.
Honestly I would cancel the com and refund instantly.
They didn't want MY art in the first place.
They didn't want MY art in the first place.
Honestly, I would never do this with another artist's art style.
In a game's art style, maybe, but I'd make sure the artist at least knew the game I was talking about and I would be upfront with it i.e. "Hey, I'm looking for a piece in the Don't Starve/Darkest Dungeon/Theme Hospital/whatever style, are you okay with that?' And if they wanted to charge a bit more, fine.
Another artist though, no. And one that's more expensive? That's just asking to be a cheapskate.

If it's any consolation, I DREAM of having my raptor 'sona done by you because your style is PERFECT for them
Seems odd.. never had this issue in all my time doing commissions, but I have heard of it happening often D:
God ive been told to replicate other artists.. and thats on a request
What about times I got interested in someone's art because a style or way they drew a different piece but when I got mine it didn't match at all so I was confused but didn't have the heart to say anything??
That ever happen to people??
That ever happen to people??
You commission me for my style, you get my style or ima smack you in the face.
I love these Furry logic drawings especially this one as I can definitely related to it being the artist that receives this from commissioners.
o.o yeah... as that wouldn't be rude at all o.o
"heya... I want some art from you, but please don't draw in your style but in *completely different person's*" ._.
"heya... I want some art from you, but please don't draw in your style but in *completely different person's*" ._.
Some artists (like myself) specialize in a simplified style of toony while others specialize in more detailed toony and even realistic. being asked to draw your art in a different style, in general, is not only a smack to the confidence but a royal pain. being asked to copy someone else's style on top of that just hurts because that means this person never came to you for your art style, instead they came to you because your art is cheaper.
... it is so reminding me of someone saying to do it more this way and not the way I've been doing it... it kind of made me a bit angry that I tried it and... they liked it and said something, I replied then... they commented, blocked and unwatched me... -sighs-
I think this is the same thought process of people like "I thought it would take an hour, doesn't the computer to most of the work?" that fundamentally do not understand what goes into drawing, and it's painful to see people be that ignorant.
As someone who actually stylematches for a living (I work closely with other artists in collaboration and I sometimes handle their art duties - it's a lot of fun!), when I take commissioned I highly recommend that clients DON'T ask me to mimic someone's style.
Like, it's going to cost them far more than it would to just commission the artist and it's not going to look nearly as good.

UGH I HATE THAT SO MUCH >:U
This happened to me not too long ago.

It really is an obnoxious and insulting thing to say to an artist IMHO. I’ve had my sona drawn by multiple artists with multiple price brackets, and the thing I want first and foremost is for the image to be in their style. I can understand if some specific details are considered essential to a character but that should be made clear by the reference material/ref-sheet given to an artist before they even start. Anyway, that said I don’t understand how anyone could not want Halopromises style. It’s so awesome, I really am looking forward to the day I can get something from them of my sona in their style.
This! That's literally why you commission them in the first place! To see your character come to life in their unique style!
I've had to point to other works because just about everyone draws my species' head wrong. I understand style but my head doesn't have a long, draconic snout. I like to think there's a difference between anatomy and style.
I like this cartoon! xD
I understand what happens here, these people don't even understand what they ask for, there are artists who are good at duplicating styles, good at creating different styles, and good at their own style, but you are one or the other.
For those who ask for different styles to what you can do, it's best to invite him to the exit. :/

this only makes me tempted to commision all the more. Your style is perfect the way it is. Isn't that the point of getting a character done from different artists? To see the variation in the styles and appreciate their work?
I'll have to admit I've asked this a couple times for commissions except it's not another artist's style it's a TV Show xD Though I was smart and asked ahead of time if said style was within their comfort zone and if they'd be OK with commissions in such a style or if they'd rather do it their way.
(The style in question is that old TV Show that was made in 1998 called Extreme Dinosaurs xD)
Thankfully the artist WAS ok with it and actually enjoyed the show too so it wasn't too big a deal for them to try or do that style for any art I commissioned
Basic Morals: Always Ask your artist ahead of time if a certain style is doable, EXCEPT if it's another artists' as that'd be pushing their limit for sure if said artist is super expensive xD
