FAPP: CURSED CUMPENDIUM
Venture to the Sunken Temple, an ancient temple with glistening alabaster walls and glowing gold inlay. Those afflicted with illness or corruption would come to the ancient prude temple to be cleansed of their ails. Cursed magic items would eventually find their way to be cleansed as well. Prudes would make regular pilgrimage to the temple to cleans themselves of impure desires and bodily corruption.
But that was then.
Now the temple stands as a monument to corruption itself. Prudes that once pilgrimaged to the temple to purify themselves no delve into the depths of the temple to purify the temple itself. Adventurers find themselves drawn to the temple through promises of riches and magic items, and when they return with laden with curses and cursed equipment they can take succor in the small community formed around the temple gates, eager to siphon treasure off of successful adventurers.
Whatever the case, the adventurers are united in their desire to explore ever-deeper to the lowest floors of the temple and discover the source of the corruption that assuredly lies therein. And fuck it, probably.
Cursed Cumpendium is Fapp's 11th expansion. It focuses on curses, cursed items, cursed creatures and the hapless adventurers who get fucked by and fuck with them.
WHAT IS FAPP?
Fapp is an erotic furry tabletop RPG. It allows for ridiculous sexual adventures across a variety of unique settings using 6 sided dice and simple character creation rules with a vast array of options. Fapp spans 3 editions and 11 expansions that each have unique (and hot) characters to challenge and please you in erotic sex-combat. You can check out all of the books here.
This was a big departure from what I normally do as an artist. My focus tends to be character illustration, so I'm very comfortable drawing creatures and characters, but I have a lot of trouble with environments and backgrounds. Kah offered me the chance to do the cover for the new Fapp book, and I jumped at the chance with a very vague idea of what exactly I was going to do.
We started talking about what the actual setting of the book should be, and ultimately decided that it would be a cursed temple. Figuring out what the cover should include was pretty easy. It needed to have a temple, and it needed to show some cursed stuff, so I settled on a couple of adventurers being beset upon by some kind of monsters while having their equipment turn out to be super cursed.
This is the first time I've ever used photo references, but it wasn't too hard. Because this is Fapp, I snuck some sneaky sexual imagery in there. (They're not that sneaky, actually) The main entrance to the temple looks like a pussy, and the main gate's towers are thinly veiled dicks with golden veins. The heads are covered by the logo on the cover, so it's a lot less obvious.
I spent so long doing the stone texture and the foliage in this image. I don't know how long it took, but shading each individual leaf and adding the highlights to each crack. Huff. But it looks so good, so it was worth it.
Beyond that, I used purple as the main signifier of "Corruption" in this image, so the main temple complex becomes more purple as you go further back to show that the corruption hasn't gotten past the gate, but the deep purple glow in the middle of the main entrance suggests that there's corruption brimming from inside. The tentacle that the sword is turning into, and the book, are also purple, and the cursed glow on the belt is purple as well.
The guardian statues aren't corrupted, they're green to show that they're fighting against the corruption. The crystal at the entrance to the temple would also be green, but it's super corrupted. They're probably attacking the heroes because they're carrying cursed items.
The fox is Oxbone Red, and the dragon kind of ended up becoming Miz Gemma, but you'll learn about her eventually.
