Chester was standing right in the middle of the entryway, as one of Vaco’s generals began approaching him.
“I’ve been waiting for this!” The young man cracked his knuckles. After taking so much time with this whole preparation thing, Clavat could help but be overjoyed to finally actually get some actual action. He was also sure that the other brats were here as well, seeing how last time he was able to wipe the floor with the guy, barring some unforeseen bumps on the road.
The hedgehog stood there without flinching an inch. He was right next to both corners that lead to halls through which he could run away in. But he barely showed interest in going away. One could say, that the kid seemed to have gained some stones Especially since he barely even bothered going into his warrior.
“I know you ain’t by yourself!” Clavat taunted. “Now get to transforming already! I wanna deal with you myself!”
Chester did not answer, except he turned around. Clavat got confused, and Chester continued calmly standing like that. Then he bent down, and mooned him.
“Try and catch me loser hobo!!!”
He then darted right out to the side and ran away.
The young servant of evil gawked with the most confused expression on his face at the empty space. Unbeknownst to him, Chester wasn’t just without his spirit form, he was completely alone as well. And as such, his only goal seemed to be trying to get the general to chase after him.
As the boy kept running fast through the hall, he began looking for a place to hide. Truth be told, his plan at the moment was to stall the latter as much as he could. Azure and the others weren’t here yet, and he had to deal with this new monster that could turn people into books. And on the other hand, the rifle that the guy had would put them all in danger.
At that moment, all Chester could do was act, and hope a real plan would come to him!
“C’mere you stupid pipsquek!”
Chester felt a pair of arms pull him back by his shoulders and throw him against the floor. Chester saw a pair of unusual eyes stare straight at him as he lied there. He quickly reached into his pocket.
“Gotcha you-Arghh!” Clavat yelled, doubling backwards. He was trying to get the pepper out that was thrown right into his eyes by the hedgehog.
“You stupid, prickly haired…I’m gonna stab you in the eyes with your hair!”
Clavat rubbed his eyes some more, until he could see an empty hall again. The boy wasn’t anywhere near him, but he found a faraway door swung open.
“Oh, I’m gonna get you for this you little!”
Clavat dashed right into the door, closing right behind himself. As he did, Chester slowly but surely peeked out of the locker right near that door. It was loose and wide enough for him to fit into, and now he could continue on escaping. By the sound of Clavat’s loud taunting and flipping everything over, he could have enough time to sneak out into someone far away.
And yet, Chester couldn’t help but feel conflicted about having someone hate him that much.
But at least that guy deserved it.
…
Flora moved herself between crowds of people. She felt like she was being packed into a sardine can, and she could barely breathe. The panic from earlier made everyone a bit too aggressive, something she had to deal with before she could find Mandy and others again. Thankfully, she did find them, right down the middle of where everyone was situated.
“Can you believe this thing actually got into our school!? It’s like, so out there!” Angela appeared completely shocked and shaken. The poor poodle wouldn’t stop clinging to others for safety.
“Honestly, at this point I’d consider telling my Mom that we should move out of here,” Daphne said, looking at Mandy as she did. The fox kept quiet, coming across as if her mind was on something else. “Lots of parents are doing it, you heard that right?”
There was a bit of a pause between them. Flora spotted a small movement from corner of Mandy’s maw. She went back to staring away, but there was something going on in her mind, Flora was sure of it.
“You know something? I’m like, two-hundred percent sure that the heroes will come over and beat those guys!” Angela declared.
“Angela, we don’t know if they are real,” Daphne pointed out matter-of-factly.
“Well, we don’t know if they are fake, either!” Angela exclaimed. She was already looking flustered. “Ugh, this stress is so bad for my health. What do you think will happen Mandy?”
She leaned in on Mandy, who was still busy looking elsewhere, only for two of them to suddenly jump away from one another.
“Stand back!” Mandy yelled at Angela. The poodle stared to tear up.
“I’m sorry! Is it the fish smell? I just can’t get rid of it!!!”
Flora bit her lip.
“These people will find the way,” Mandy finally said. “They must, otherwise the school will get closed down and we will have to go our separate ways.”
All of the girls looked at each other.
“That’s true.” Angela wiped her eyes from tears.
“…But,” Daphne said, shifting uncomfortably, “we still have that problem, aren’t we? Like, I’m just saying that this is a good reason for people to leave right now. My mom thinks its better for our safety-”
“Do you want to leave us?” Mandy said, her voice slow and threatening.
The suddenness of her voice scared everybody.
“…What?”
“You know what will happen if you leave right?” Mandy asked her again, demanding for an answer.
“I’m not trying to…”
“You are one of the most popular girls in this school. And if you leave the school, the more likely everybody else will! And guess what? The less funding my dad gets. Do you want to do this? Do you want the school to be closed down? And so that we never get to be friends again? Is this what you want?” Mandy looked out once again, and stated, “The school needs us.”
Daphne pursed her beak shut. Angela inhaled through her nostrils and wiped her eyes dry. She then nodded in agreement, to everything. Flora just took a deep breath in. After exhaling, she focused back on her.
“Mandy!” Flora called.
“And that involves you too, Flora,” Mandy’s answer was quick. She continued without looking at her, “I need you to act according to your role, too. Everything is already going bonkers as it is, and it’s stressing my Dad out, completely. You know that, right?”
She then finally faced Flora, their eyes connected fully. The deer’s palms were in fox’s paws, held tightly in place.
“My Dad…hoards when he is stressed, and this whole thing since it started has moved him beyond unreasonable. He honestly won’t stop, won’t listen at all, and that scares me. He can’t go on like this. I want what’s best for him, and I need your help.”
Mandy leaned in closer and whispered, “You will help us, won’t you?”
Flora stood still for a moment. This was the first time ever Mandy was so…open to her about herself. Mandy really did trust her. She REALLY depended on her, and everything came down to her own actions. Thinking on it, even Chester had trouble expressing himself, be open to be dependent on others, actually talking to her as a friend.
Flora thought on it.
“Well, what do you say? We can still find a way to fix this. And you know how to.”
Flora bit her lip again, then immediately released it. She stared back at the fox, her mind clear.
“Mandy…” She gave herself a moment to breathe out. “I am…very sorry about your dad. But this thing, isn’t so much about us anymore. It’s about these people.”
Mandy stared at her in disbelief.
“These people? You mean these losers who couldn’t care about anything but this stupid town? Those who don’t care about us?”
Mandy looked completely shocked, even coming across as betrayed. Flora continued,
“Yeah, you are right. This town is stupid. I admit, I don’t care about it, at all. I just care about people here. Let me be clear here…I want to go with you, like REALLY want to go with you, but I just don’t agree with the way we are going about it. Actually, maybe I was going at this whole…everything the wrong way, and should really start taking a look at things again. Heck, I’m not sure what I am doing, except I should try and listen to my gut. Sorry Mandy.”
Flora pulled her palms out of fox’s grasp and immediately started walking the other way.
“Where are you going?!”
Flora barely reacted to Mandy, and just said,
“Where I need to be!”
There was still more time she had. Hopefully, it wasn’t exactly too late.
