American Mustelid Alpha - Episode 5, "Young Thing" - Part 1
Ep 4, Part 2 || Archives || Ep 5, Part 2
The gang is back from Tampa and ready to go for another round of action! Last week's elimination, as well as the information tossed around from conversations between the cast and the Water Week guests, have several contestants still tangled in discussion. Meanwhile, one of the Burrow's most neglected mustelid residents is planning a move of his own to jump in the forefront, and a crucial Team Challenge based on strength and endurance comes as the perfect stage to put his plan into practice. Who will earn safety and the lofty reward that comes with it?

Not gonna lie: The fight between Chayne and John kinda freaked me out a bit, I was pretty sure one of them is gonna throw a punch at the other.
The moment Andrew announced his team, I mentally smacked my forehead with one hand, then facepalmed with the other. I was like 'The hell is WRONG with you Andy!?'
But, a little part of my heart knew it was gonna work out, one way or another and I'm glad it did, even if John was on that team. I just didn't want Andrew and Chayne to lose.

Well, if we've learned something about Andrew since the very beginning with his "wardrobe malfunction" in Ep 2, it's that he's very much used to defy expectations!
Andrew's been an interesting character to write. This installment had him in the forefront from start to finish, as the title obviously hinted at - which is pretty reasonable given that it marks his breakthrough after a decidedly rocky start. It remains to be seen if he can overcome his limits (of which we've seen several instances) and progress much further, or if the others will catch up to him as the competition becomes more and more cutthroat.

Now it's on to the Individuals.
Honestly, I'm really worried about Eddie. Not only is his win streak been cut, but it's also pretty obvious that the others will be gunning for him.
Or for Crispin, for that matter, considering how he's still reeling from that accident during Water Week.

It remains to be seen what does the next challenge entail! If it involves water, the lutrines could get another leg up - and it ain't the only weapon in their arsenal.
But really, the big thing about this show is that everyone will have to play out of their comfort zone at some point. It's been quite unpredictable this far, and I got a hunch it'll remain that way :)

It is amusing to see anthropomorphic animals discussing hair / fur loss.
The jailer may be an asshole, but he is an honest one. I can respect that.
I am surprised these furry animals are okay taking leather bound gifts. Did they come from feral animals? Or did ya just taxidermy a dead anthro and turn 'em into leather goods?

All the stories I've wrote that are set in furry universes have had a dichotomy between anthros (living, talking, sentient animal-looking creatures) and ferals (non-sentient four-legged kind that we know). Of course there can be some kind of hidden nuance every now and then, tracing some traits belonging to ferals to the anthros whose species they belong to (e.g. aquatic species eating mostly fish and derivates, some preys refusing to eat "feral" meat altogether etc.). I like to think that there are no hard rules in this department, which is pretty much the same as RL if you think about it. So yeah, I guess there's space for leather clothing in this 'verse :)
