A brother’s burden
Cameron wanted to open the door but hesitated at the last moment. His hand almost retreated by itself. He wanted to do it, he had to do it but he didn’t have the courage. He scratched the black fur on the back on his head, looking down with sadness. With his other hand he took his phone from his pocket to look at his background photo. Where 2 huskies, one with black and white fur the other one had brown and white color, were smiling at the camera.
A tear escaped from one of the husky’s eyes who was looking at the phone. “Jamie…” He slowly said. “Where are you?” He slowly said, his voice betraying his sorrows.
Back then they were so happy. Just 2 husky brothers having a living, a house, friends. Nothing could separate them, until now.
Cameron took a great inspiration as he straightened himself before taking the handle and opening the door with a swift movement.
The entrance at the top of the stairs was now open. His brother made his lair in the attic, liking the warmness and the space it offered.
Entering here was always strange, it was almost like traveling to another country. The room was dimly lit with purple veils at the windows. The bright blue colored walls, the circular couch and the middle east styled shelves filled with fancy glass bottles and antique oil lamps.
You could almost imagine yourself in a 1001 nights fairytale. The only thing that indicated the current time was the TV and the numerous posters and goodies from I Dream Of Jeannie TV series. When half of the shelves had lamps and bottles, the other had DVDs, figures, toys and many other things related to the show from the 60’s. You could immediately guess about Jamie's unconditional love for barbara eden and other genie related stuff. Each time they have gone to a party or a convention, he was dressed as a genie or at least some middle east fairytale like character.
Cameron liked it but it was nothing compared to his brother. He was going completely fanatic each time he was hearing about his favorite show or genies. It was amusing seeing going overload about it.
Right now, the fun was long gone and Cameron could only cry when he was thinking about those good times. Just like his brother's stuff who were scattered all around the room in disorder. His life was now a mess and left for the dust to accumulate.
He didn’t even know how it happened. One day he woke up, he prepared breakfast but his brother never came down from his room.
At first he didn’t fret, thinking his brother had left early for work or an appointment. It’s only when the end of the day that he started to worry. He sent him some text messages and several calls but to no avail. His brother's phone never answered back.
The next morning, he checked the whole house, attic first. And once again to no avail…
Never before, Jamie never left for so long without warning or at least a phone call. Cameron was fearing something may have happened to him as he called all of their friends. He couldn’t from their relatives as the only family he got was his brother.
In no time, everybody acquainted with the two huskies were starting to call each other to find the one with brown fur.
A sleepless night later, with some friends who were also worried. Cameron had to face the reality… His brother disappeared. And now he had to call the authorities.
In no time, a bunch of people went to his house. Police detectives, FBI agents, journalists.
Talking to him, asking questions and trying to comfort him. He remembered the black wolf leading the team of federal agents. Saying they will find him in no time as the whole bureau was on the case now.
This was 8 months ago…
News talked about the missing, many calls to witness were launched, search parties were formed to scrutinize the outside of the city.
Nothing worked, Jamie the white and brown husky literally vanished from the planet. Today nobody remembered him, people moved on. That was how Cameron was feeling it before he entered into his brother's lair.
But what he can do. The federals searched every corner of this room, only leaving a mess behind them. Thankfully they considered the stuff and didn’t break anything. Aside from that when the remaining husky called them, he felt they’ve given up and just waiting for a clue or maybe somebody randomly finding the body...
Cameron cried. This thought was haunting him. He knew the more time passed the less chance of finding Jamie alive or just finding him.
He rummaged a little through his brother's stuff, randomly opening boxes and drawers. Trying to not wet the precious things of his brother with his tears.
But in the end, it was fruitless and he resorted to just tidy up the room. Maybe he would find something or at least Jamie woulfind a clean room if he came back.
Sighing, Cameron put the DVDs of Aladdin back on the shelves. Then it was the turn of the big boxes containing seasons of I dream of Jeannie. It was pretty heavy and had to be taken just aside from the circular couch. Of course something related to the show must be put where his brother tried to recreate the inside of the genie’s bottle from the series. He put the big box containing a lot of DVDs, almost losing grip as it went on the shelf and moving it back and forth.
Cameron got scared as he saw things moving dangerously close to the edge due to the movement. Thankfully, it wasn’t too strong as nothing fell over. Except for an oil lamp who was apparently sitting on top of it and tumbled. For a moment the husky’s heart stopped but he exhaled in relief when the precious antic landed softly on the couch without any damage. The mutt took the lamp without paying any mind and put it back on top of the said shelf. Then he went to tidy some of the book but he heard the faint of something falling on the couch. He turned to see it was the same lamp again. Cameron thought he didn’t putted it correctly as he took it and made sure to set it away from the edge.
He then returned in his tidying, at least he tried, another noise interrupted him again.
In fact, it’s the same he heard a few seconds ago at the same location. And when he took a look, he saw the same lamp, back on the couch.
the husky made a “hmmm” wondering if this lamp could stand on its own. He put the thing back on the top for the second time. Staying a few seconds to see if it could stand still… Normally yes considering the form of it, this antic oil container was designed for that from the looks of it. But when Cameron got back down to resume his tidying but he froze mid way and took a quick look at the shelf. Only to see the lamp falling on the couch in the middle of its act.
It looked like that for him, like the lamp was doing this on purpose. The mutt sighed in defeat before he took the lamp again and sat on the couch it fell on.
“Why don't you want to stay up there?” he absentmindedly asked, he was all alone after all.
This time he closely studied the lamp, trying to understand why it’s always falling. Making more details from the antics he barely watched, until now.
It was a yellow colored antique oil lamp with a familiar design that reminded him of the one in Aladdin. The husky tried to look inside it as he tried to open the lid but the thing was sealed shut, like glued. He didn’t insist as he prefered to search in his memory.
When Jamie could have bought that. He wasn’t always in his brother’s room but still. He hanged around quite often to be able to follow his brother's latest genie related acquisitions.
But he couldn’t remember this one, deducting it was a recent purchase.
He would always be amazed by his brother's collection of magic lamps and bottles. There’s a dozen bottles and a few lamps, all of them in a style where you could expect them to house a genie.
He chuckled thinking about all this and also how, he too, fueled this as a couple were offered by him. He then sighed which lifted some dust on the lamp he was holding.
And of course, it made the husky sneeze. “ACHOOOO!” He almost dropped the antique in his hand as his body jerked.
“Gesundheit!” Cameron told himself before noticing he actually dirtied the lamp with his drool, thanks to the sneeze. He sighed loudly before he took the sleeve of his white shirt and cleaned it. He chuckled to the fact that he was actually rubbing the lamp, thinking he would be happy to find a genie.
You know the scene, rubbing the lamp, column of blue smoke being spewed out of it and filling the room. For a moment Cameron thought he was daydreaming hard as the scene he was imagining was taking place in front of him.
It’s only when the smoke got to his face and caused him trouble to breath that he realised, while coughing a lung. He wasn’t dreaming at all. Of all the lamps and the bottles Jamie bought, he actually found one with a genie inside.
The smoke filled the whole for a second before it dissipated and revealed the genie to the husky.
He was a brown furred cat, wearing a blue kimono and smoking a sort of long straight pipe. And of course, just below his belt, a blue smoke tail like all the genies.
Cameron couldn’t believe or formulate a coherent word when the said genie greeted him.
“Greetings master, I’m Owen the neko genie.”
“aaah uh mmm.” That’s all the husky could groan.
The genie smiled before he took a puff on his pipe, exhaling blue smoke and waiting for his ‘master’ to collect his mind.
It wasn’t easy for Cameron, a part of his mind was still rejecting the reality of this. He pinched himself, he waved his hand through Owen's smoke tail, nothing worked. He wasn’t dreaming and he felt a very light veil going through his hand as it passed throught the blue.
The neko genie chuckled before leaning forward, getting his face close to the husky’s one. “Believe me, I’m the real thing. Consider yourself as the luckiest person of this world at this moment. you’ve just rubbed the very lamp that contains the very genie who will grant your wish.” He told him in a sweet voice.
The mutt took a breath, finally settled his mind and accepted the situation. “So, you will grant my wish?” He asked, trying to not sound too impressed. After all, a genie with phenomenal cosmic powers was standing in front of him.
Owen grinned before he made a backflip and opened his arms. Creating a rainbow of things, all more enviable than others. “Yes, 3 wishes and it can be anything you want.” He then pointed to each thing he created. “Money, power, superpower, body modification, knowledge, adventures or even going into different worlds. Just say, I wish and I, Owen the nekomimi genie will grant it.” He finished by a respectful bow and everything disappeared in sparkles.
Cameron didn't know what to say. “Just like that?” After all, the world just grew before his eyes. Things like magic and supernatural creatures considered as impossible could and was now a reality for him.
“Perhaps you want a little demonstration?” The genie asked.
“Hum...Sure, I’ll be glad if you do.” Answered the husky. He actually wanted the genie to show him more magic, just like a kid.
Owen chuckled. “I exactly know the perfect one.” He said before plucking his pipe into his mouth and took a puff.
The mutt wondered what was going to happen before the genie exhaled blue smoke on him.
Cameron coughed, he never smoked and didn’t like the horrible odour. But here it wasn’t a foul smell. It was rather something fresh who reminded him of the mountains… Snow.
Once he figured the smell he also noticed his body was all tingling and soil was like moving under his feet. What he saw when the smoke dissipated left him speechless and a little scared. The genie was growing before him.
“No, wait!” he thought before he looked around him. The whole room was growing around him. “I’m shrinking!!!” He said out loud.
Owen grinned, seemingly happy about this. The husky was half his size and still diminishing under his gaze.
As tinier he got, Cameron took some steps back. The room seemed so alien from his point of view. He tripped on something and landed on what seemed to be a plastic surface. It was a DVD case, and from what he saw, it was Disney’s Aladdin.
When he finally stopped shrinking, he could finally estimate his height and it was no bigger than a single inch. He could lay down on the dvd cover and pass up for one of the characters in the picture.
His train of thoughts got interrupted when a giant with a pipe suddenly got closer to him.
“How’s that for a demonstration?” The giant, only from the dog’s view, genie asked. Smiling like he was proud of his deed.
Seeing the DVD case being as large as a platform, Cameron word’s were a little stuck in his throat. “It’s.... Impressive...Being tiny… Feel being in… Giant land.” He could only state the obvious. Being shrunk by a genie of the lamp isn’t a common occurrence in the life of someone.
“I can make you smaller.” Owen announced.
The tiny husky quickly answered the proposition “NO!... No thanks. I’m convinced by your demonstration.” Seeing the pipe where the blue shrinking smoke was coming out, getting closer to him.
But the genie retreated, standing up or more like floating up. “Alright.” He seemed a little deceived by the refusal.
Cameron took a second to stare at the genie who was now a mountain compared to his small. Before he cleared his voice and asked. “and you can grant any wish?”
“I told you. I’m a professional wish granter.” The genie before taking a card from the inside of his Kimono and made it float to the diminutive mutt.
The business card, the size of billboard from Cameron view, contained the inscription.
Owen the nekomimi. Certified professional in wish grantings.
Associate genie from Djinns & Genies Wishing company.
The satisfaction of our customers is our greatest wish.
For a second the husky wondered where he was going to put this big of a business card. But the problem resolved itself as it disappeared in blue smoke. “I mean, are there limits and rules?”
Owen smirked. “That’s what I want to hear. Yes there’s rules and limitations.”
“Like, no killings, no wish for love and no death resurrections” The husky flashed its knowledge of Aladdin.
“2 wrongs, 1 good. you’ll do better with “what I want to wish” themed questions.” The genie announced like a tv show host. But he quickly became serious again as he cleared his voice. “The no killing rule may be a rule for other genies, not for me. But before you see me as a dangerous djinn, I must tell you that I only do it to defend myself or my master. You’re okay with that?” He finally asked.
Cameron who sat while the genie was talking only asked. “There’s other genies?” Not troubled by the genie self defense explanation.
The pipe smoking genie took a puzzled expression. “I take that as a yes.” and he resumed his explanation. “The love wish. I can grant it but only in the form of hypnotism, love potions or any other artificial ways. So you may have guessed, it will always taste fake.”
“But if I find another lamp with genie, he will also grant me 3 wishes?” Cameron asked. Apparently, shocked again by the fact Owen mentioned the existence of other genies than him.
Which kinda annoyed the neko genie as his ears moved backward and made a face according to his mood. “Still on that? Focus please!” He ordered and it worked as the mutt seemed to snap out of his shock and looked at the genie’s face. Owen got his arm crossed as one his paw was tapping on his sleeve. “Have you heard what I told you?” He asked.
Cameron was a little embarrassed and promptly answered. “Yes, of course. Hum, the no kill doesn’t apply when you defend yourself and love wishes will always give fake feelings.” He was already small and he didn’t want to anger the only one who could restore him back. Or worse make him smaller. “You were saying I was right for the death wish.”
It was a little vague but the answer seemed to please the genie as his face softened. “Yes, life and death are 2 different worlds. Only a few beings can make things go both ways, like gods. Sadly, genies are not part of this exclusive club so no resurrection wish.”
The husky wanted to say something but Owen interrupted him. “Last thing! There's a no wish for more wish rule. And it extends to everything you can come up with. No wish for this rule to not exist and no wish to bring another genie lamp or bottle... So yes, to answer your question. There’s other genies in this world.” He then paused for a few seconds before finally asking. “Any Questions?”
At this moment, Cameron just had one in his head. “Yes, could you make me normal size again?”
It’s been a moment since the husky was sitting on the DVD case and he sure could sit on something more comfortable. Like the couch just beside them, if the genie grow him tall enough to not see the seat as large as a building.
Owen raised an eyebrow before snapping his fingers. “Alright.” almost sounding reluctant to do it.
The mutt’s point of view just got higher in a flash, he almost felt some vertigo in the process. But was happy to be back at his normal stature. Also thankful for the lack of spiders in his house, a close up view at a small would scared him to death. “I know what my first wish is!” He declared as this idea popped in his head as soon as the genie told him he had 3.
Owen was a little surprised and asked“Already? You don’t want to think about it?”
Confidently, Cameron affirmed. “I’m sure of it.”
The genie shrugged before saying. “Well, you’re the master.”
The husky felt a little embarrassed. “You know, you can call me Cameron. I’m not comfy being called master.” He was picturing himself as an abusive master who’s genie bowed at him in fear.
“Sorry, cannot help. As long as you have the lamp and wishes, I have to call you master. Job’s requirement.” The genie said before resuming. “So, about your wish?”
The master of the lamp cleared his voice before saying. “Yes, I want my brother to be back.”
“Your brother?” The genie asked, tilting his head to the side.
“Yeah, he disappeared several months ago and nobody can find him nor a trace of him… I miss him so much and I would do anything to have him back... Even a wish. ” The husky felt a brick getting heavier in his stomach as he told his tale to the supernatural being.
Owen was saddened but he smiled at the mutt as he told him. “That’s a good wish then. Now…” He gave the lamp to the dog. “Say it with the ‘I wish’ to make it official.”
Cameron thumped heavily in his chest as the lamp seemed to be really heavy in his hands. He almost had trouble finding the precious words and saying it. “I wish for my brother to be back.”
The magical floating being announced. “As you wish, master.” and he snapped his fingers.
Nothing happened. The two stayed still and silent for a couple of minutes waiting for something to happen.
The neko genie voluntarily cleared his voice and smiled at the husky before he snapped his fingers again… And again. and again, and again, and again…
No matter how much he did it, this wasn’t working as they were no sign of another husky in the room. Just the one with his genie trying to grant his wish.
“Is there something wrong?” finally asked Cameron
Owen stopped snapping his fingers before replying. “I don’t know, It doesn’t seem to work that’s strange...Lemme check a thing or two.” He took a thinking pose for a minute. “It’s like I can't reach him.”
The mutt thought the worst. “Wait! Does this mean… He’s… And you’re trying to…” He started to cry.
“What???” The genie said in shock seeing his master crying. “No no no! I didn’t say that!” He floated and took the husky’s shoulder to comfort him.
“But if you can’t resurrect death and you can’t bring back my brother.” Cameron started but was interrupted by Owen.
“That’s why I was checking. I found it weird but I can assure you brother is alive. He’s just…” The genie paused like he couldn’t find his words. “Out of my reach… I don’t know how or why but I can’t bring him back.”
The mutt wiped his tears, with a tissue created from nothing by the nekomimi genie and offered to him. “Fine…” He said, disappointed as he went back to tidying without adding anything else.
Which left the genie speechless and kinda worried as he saw him, tidying the stuff. Feeling the coldness emanating from him.
“You know you still have some wishes?” He announced, trying to re heat the atmosphere around.
But the mutt just said. “I know. I have 2 wish left.” paying no mind to the magic being nor looking at him.
“Actually, you still have 3 since I couldn’t grant your first wish. It’s the only exception where I can refund a wish.” The genie smiled, trying to be cheerful.
“No thanks, I’m good.” Cameron coldly said as he collected some book and comics lying on the ground.
Owen then appeared in a puff of blue smoke, doll sized, sitting on the book he was holding. “Are you really sure?” He asked.
“Yes, now leave me alone and don’t shrink me to get my attention.” He groaned before blowing the genie away with a whiff of his breath.
“You were so eager to wish…” He started as Cameron was putting the books on a shelf but the husky suddenly stopped.
“I was… Because I thought I would finally see my brother back.” The mutt strongly gripped the nice but big book he was holding. “But I’m stuck with a stupid and really INCOMPETENT GENIE!!!” Screaming and finally throwing the big book at the magical being.
Owen who was normal sized intercepted the book flying at him with gentleness. “A hard cover 1001 nights book illustrated by John Tenniel, you shouldn’t throw away something so precious.”
Cameron crept closer to him and tried get at him but he was in fact crying and just weakly pounced on him. “I JUST WANT MY BROTHER BACK!!!” He screamed. The genie took the pounces but thankfully it was rather weak.
Shortly after, the husky just fell into the magical being’s arms. Exhausted, with tears running along his cheeks.
“Shhh shhh shhh.” The genie rubbed the black and white fur to sooth his master.
The husky just lost it and realized he was taking it on somebody who didn’t have anything to do with it. “I’m sorry… I didn’t mean to…” He said between sniffles.
“It’s okay, I know.” Owen said, not wanting to make things worse. He knew Cameron was just sad and not truly aggressive. If he was, he wouldn’t have the time to reach him before finding himself microscopic. Attacking a genie is never a good idea.
The black and white furred dog stayed for several minutes in the embrace of the magical being. Somehow, the non corporeal body of the genie was incredibly soft and pretty warm. Almost like a big heating pillow with a tingling texture.
“Thank you Owen” He softly said. He would have taken a nap but decided otherwise as he wanted to keep tidying the room.
He opened his eyes to only see the giant face of the genie. Surprised at first but quickly understanding what he did.
“Am I wrong… Or you like to shrink people?” He sarcastically asked. Owen took another puff but Cameron quickly intervened before he did anything. “Please no! Put me back on the ground and restore me to my normal size.” The genie pouted before he snapped his fingers.
Cameron found himself levitating from the genie’s body before regaining his normal size, he estimated to be doll sized before growing back.
He then had an idea. “I could wish you to help me in tidying and cleaning this room.” He announced
The genie took a look around before responding. “Nah, I’ll help you. I prefer you would wish for something bigger or more extravagant.”
So both of them went to tidy this whole mess. Cameron made sure to put back all the dvds and books at their place. While Owen was doing the big work, lifting big boxes and other heavy stuff. It was heavy for him as he used his magic to levitate things. The mutt was amazed at this, genie magic was fun to watch especially when it was not used to shrink him.
The magical being also seemed to be impressed about Jamie’s room.
“Feels like a genie bottle here.” And even proposed. “I could upgrade the decoration and maybe enchant a little furniture or two to make it look like a real one.”
But Cameron declined the offer. “Thanks but it’s my brother’s room and I don’t want to change without his permission. He really love “I dream of genie” TV show and genies. I’m sure he would have loved to meet a real one like you and would have made some wishes. Maybe he would have even asked you to transform into one of your kind.” He explained before taking a bunch of books while the neko floated a little above to clean some dust.
“Yeah if only he was here or rubbed Owen’s lamp earlier.” The husky thought as he stacked the book but he gradually slowed and finally stopped as his mind processed. Compiling info and elements like puzzle pieces assembling together. There’s no way Jamie couldn’t have rubbed that lamp, a genie aficionados like him. So what if he did then he may… Cameron looked at the ground, considering the genie’s habit... But he quickly dismissed it.
Something wasn’t working with this.
Owen couldn’t grant his wish so it’s implying there was something rendering it impossible. And the only things that are impossible for a genie are detailed in the rules. And the one with shrinking smoke assured the mutt that Jamie’s wasn’t dead so…
At this right moment, a lightbulb went on in the husky’s head.
The only other rule preventing Owen from reaching Jamie would be the no wish for more wish one. So if his brother really found out about the magical neko being inhabiting the lamp. Disappeared and couldn’t be brought by a wish.
Cameron took the genie’s lamp before asking in a very serious tone. “Owen, have you transformed my brother, Jamie, a brown and white furred husky into a genie?”
The magical being froze and everything he was making floating suddenly dropped down on the floor. He took several seconds before answering. “Well, I’m not supposed to talk about the wishes made by a former master.” He didn’t even look at his master.
“I knew it!” The husky screamed. The neko just betrayed himself by implying his brother was one of his former masters. Cameron took a few steps toward the genie and faced him. “And when you planned to tell me that?”
Owen was looking at the ground in shame then this time he was the one shrinking.
“Oh no you don’t!” The mutt quickly snatched the genie who was rapidly diminishing in his hand. Handling him like a doll. “Don’t you dare getting too small or retreat in your lamp! I want answers!” I shaked the genie up and down a little. “Maybe I would wish for them but can I really trust you since you were lying to me.”
Owen was caught and didn’t have any other choice but to talk and calm the situation. “Alright, I’ll talk. Just calm down…” He then poofed himself out of the husky’s grip to reappear in front of him normal sized. He took a puff and exhaled a cloud of blue smoke with a serious expression. Searching for the good word for this. “Your brother, indeed, asked me to be a genie… He” he slowly said.
“Oh my god!” Cameron exclaimed. Picturing everything that was implying with his brother being a genie. “That means he is in one of the bottles here?”
“No. He’s in another place. Granting wishes to people.” The genie sounded sincere.
The husky felt he was going to cry again. “Why didn’t you told me all this since the beginning?” he asked.
“I…” Owen started but he hesitated. “I… Wasn’t allowed to…” The words seemed to be stuck in his throat.
“Wasn’t allowed???” Cameron thought about this before it struck him. “He wished you to keep silent about this?” He asked again. But the genie didn’t answered, taking another puff.
“And now he’s gone forever… He left me here without any hope of seeing back.” He felt tear coming in his eyes.
Owen saw this and floated behind his master to take his shoulders. “I’m probably doing something very bad but I cannot stay here without doing anything. There’s a way to see your brother.”
A weight was suddenly lifted from Cameron’s heart. “But how? I cannot wish him here?”
He asked, eager for the genie’s plan.
The magical being smirked. “Normally I would never encourage this kind of practice, but.” He then whispered into the husky’s ear.
A few moments later.
Cameron was walking alongside Owen in what seemed to be a middle east style city in the desert. Of course, the husky was panting and sweating heavily. Having all of this fur under such a shining sun.
“You couldn’t teleport us closer Owen?” He asked, whipping his forehead.
The genie who doesn’t seem to be affected by any of this, answered. “Sorry, I must keep my magic powers to the lowest. This place is filled with wizards and warlocks, sensitive to magics. So we need to keep a low profile, unless you want to battle with someone who want to have my lamp.”
The genie and the husky appeared in the desert and were now walking since a couple of hours now. Of course, Owen made sure Cameron wasn’t in any danger. He sometimes poofed a little bottle of water and or a little sun umbrella. He even changed his clothes, from modern streetwear to something more arabian night themes. Even him changed from his kimono to this.
When finally, they seemed to have reached the place as the magical being opened a door leading to a storage room.
The place was dark and filled with various things. Wood crates, barrels, bottles, carpets.
“Pfew, at least it’s cooler in there.” Cameron said as seated on one of the crates. “So where’s my brother?”
“I’ll search for him, just a sec.” The genie answered as rumbled through a shelf full of bottles.
Meanwhile the husky noticed a nice looking one and took it. It seemed to be a little heavy and had a nice green color, almost like it was emerald. Cameron couldn’t see what was inside so he opened the stopper and took a sniff. He didn’t wait as he didn’t smell anything and started to drink the content.
Owen took a look at him and his face changed to a surprised expression. “Master, that bottle…” He started.
Cameron just had the time to react before the taste went to his head. This wasn’t water or any drinkable liquid, in fact, it wasn’t liquid at all. He quickly putted the bottle away as he coughed green smoke.
He kept doing it for several seconds, not noticing the green thing he was coughing wasn’t dissipating.
It rapidly formed a figure with clothes, fur and the ability to speak as it said to the husky. “Ugh, you weren’t supposed to swallow me.” in disgust, dusting his body. It was genie, but not any genie, as he immediately added after looking at the one who ‘drank’ him. “Cameron?”
The black and white furred husky who was coughing his lung crouched on the ground, looked up. Seeing a magnificent brown and white furred genie with a blue vest with gold embodiments and a green smoke tail going into the bottle. “Jamie!!!” He screamed as he went straight to his brother and hugged him.
“Ooof” The husky genie could only said as he was slightly pushed back by brother embrace. “I’m happy to see you too.” He then took a look at the neko genie and greeted him. “Owen.”
The magical being with blue smoke tail nodded. “Jamie.”
The genie husky chuckled as he rubbed his brother’s back. “How did you manage to make Owen find me with the no wish for more wish rules.”
Cameron lifted his head and smiled. “The rule say he cannot bring another genie lamp but he didn’t say anything about not telling the localization or being taken to it.”
“This loophole will be corrected.” Owen sternly said but he couldn’t hide his little smile.
The embrace ended just as the warm reunion of the two brothers as Cameron asked. “But bro, why did you left me like that without any explanation? I’ve been worried to death and sad too. Many of our friends searched for you. Why?”
Everything got silent for a minute. “I know… I’m sorry for that. It’s a little weak compared to what you had gone through but I had my reasons.” Jamie stopped for a few seconds to search for the right words. “If I left you without any words… It’s because I would have feared that you wouldn’t understand… Even if I told you that I was only leaving, you would have asked why or where I was going, and in the end… We would have argued and even bickered and I didn’t wanted that.”
“I would have never, Jamie.” Cameron whimpered to his brother.
The brown and white furred husky exhaled. “I didn’t know. The genie things, being one. I know you liked to share some moments with me. I was afraid of your reaction and most, I feared that you would become a genie just to be with me… And regret it…” He then looked at the neko genie. “For all of that… I decided to use a wish to make Owen silent about me being a genie and my reason.” Jamie turned to his brother. “And I used the second to make sure his lamp stick around you and appear when you would have needed it the most. Making sure you would have support.” He then chuckled. “But I would never have imagined that you’ll manage to find me back.”
Cameron listened to all that and weighted every word and sentence, not really knowing how to react. He was mad, sad and happy at the same time with his brother's explanation. “I understand…” He slowly started. “You wanted to live your dream of being a genie. But you shouldn’t have left like that.”
Jamie looked down in shame, saying. “I’m sorry.”
“Still!” The black and white husky suddenly said. “I can’t imagine living the rest of my life without you or without knowing if you’re well and happy, so...” He exhaled before finishing. “I guess I have no choice and become a genie just like you.”
The smoke tailed husky gasped in surprise. “Are you sure? I mean, this is way different than what we imagined or seen on TV.”
But Cameron made his decision and it was a firm one. “I am. I’m ready to grant wishes for eternity. As long as I'm with you, I’m ready to do anything.”
Jamie smiled before he said. “Eternity is a little too long, no?”
The future genie was puzzled and asked. “What?”
“Owen will explain it better, right?” He said to the neko genie who was taking a puff in silent while watching the 2 brothers.
“Hum hum.” The blue smoke tailed genie cleared his voice. “I’m not allowed to propose definitive contract and I don’t want to transform anyone forever.”
Still puzzled, Cameron. “Do you mean? You can transform me into a genie? For just a certain period of time?” Already picturing himself as a magical being with his lamp.
“Yes, 5 years contract with Djinn & Genies Wishing company. First as a trainee and then as a genie worker for our company. You’ll be granting wish to anyone rubbing your lamp or bottle.” Owen explained.
The only non-genie of the room seemed to have stars in the eyes but quickly got back to reality. “But If I do, I will be separated from my bro again.”
The neko genie twitched his pipe with his mouth. “Well… You can be introduced to the job under your brother tutelage then become his partner. If he accepts to do it and to share his bottle with you.”
They both looked at Jamie who just responded. “Of course, it doesn’t bother me at all.”
Owen then pulled a paper from the inside of his vest and showed it to the husky. Cameron barely read it, impatient and excited about this. As he approached his hand, a classy pen poofed right into and he signed the contract. The neko genie made it disappear in a puff of blue smoke before he announced. “Congratulations! And welcome to Djinn & Genies Wishing co! Without any delay, let’s get you into condition.” He then clapped his hand twice like someone calling a servant.
Cameron felt like a breeze was blowing on him before a strong tingling caught his feet. Then it quickly spread into both of his legs. Even his stomach felt like it was tingled by dozens of feathers. When he looked he saw his lower body dissolving into smoke.
“Aaaah!” He released, a little afraid but it didn’t last as his whole body was now becoming smoke. Nothing was left of him after the emerald green bottle sucked everything.
The 2 genies were now alone for a few minutes when Jamie raised concern. “I think he may be stuck and cannot get out.” But quickly his doubt was dismissed as green smoke came out from his bottle. The transformation was done.
The smoke dissipated revealing a black and white husky with a blue vest similar to his brother. He also had a green smoke tail but this one was clearer than his brother.
For Cameron, it felt like he just got reborn. His new body and the phenomenal cosmic power coming with it, extending his perception to a point he would never have imagined before.
He looked at himself before exclaiming. “Wow! This is awesome! I never felt like this before.”
Owen clapped his hand to get both of the huskies attention. “Alright gentlemen. Time to get to work, those wishes aren’t going to be granted by themselves.”
“Aw, come on Owen.” The black and white husky genie whimpered.
“Sorry Cameron, you’re not my master anymore. And since I’m the only associate genie here that means I’m your superior. Now back to the bottle.” He happily said at the end.
The huskies felt they were sucked back into their home by their tail before the fresh new genie exclaimed. “Ho! Wait Owen, about the house and our friends!”
But the neko genie reassured him. “Don’t worry I’ll handle it. You’re house will be protected during your contract and I’ll make your friend will know that you found your bro and will be working with him for the next five years.”
“ha… Thank you.” Cameron as his body was fully sucked in the bottle with a POOF! The bottle then placed itself at top to close it before Owen took it.
“Now, let’s go to your next location.” The brown furred neko genie said before he disappear, along with everything, the bottle, his lamp which fell from Cameron’s pocket when he transformed. In a big puff of blue smoke.
All of them, ready to grant wishes to whoever rub their home.
THE END
