A teeny tiny loop
“I never told anyone but I experienced a freaky event when I was younger.” BigPaWolf started.
The white furred werewolf was sitting on a couch as he related this strange moment of his life. “I was still a young uni teacher when one day I just…” But he suddenly got interrupted.
“Wait a minute!” said the man who was giving an attentive ear to the wolf and writing on a notepad. “Are we going into a flashback? That type of scenario has been overexploited in recent years.”
The wolf was readying a pipe. “I’m afraid so… How do you want me to tell this story?”
The listening man sighed in annoyance. “Alright then, let’s go…”
The fat wolf took a puff and exhaled a cloud of grey smoke. “I remember that day, I was teaching a lesson about…”
Everything goes blurry and the scene shifts to an university amphi with BigPaWolf wearing a brown corduroy with a red tie. “This is actually what makes the molecular changes.”
“You’re young but already got a white beard? Is that a side effect of lycanthropy?” interrupted the man.
Surprised, the white werewolf. “How can you see into my flashback? Anyway, could you stop interrupting me?”
“Sorry.” The writing man apologized.
Back in the past, at the uni.
“Any questions?” asked BigPa.
A young anthropomorphic fox raised his paw. “Profesor Wolf! You told us about molecular change triggered by genetic traits like lycanthropy and other mutations. But what about change provoked by outside elements?”
“Those means are yet to be discovered but if we could resume what those external elements need to trigger changes. Whatever it’s by, exposure like radiation, ingestion like chemicals, potions.” The white furred wolf started to explain.
A young shark intervened. “You can’t seriously talk about potions like in RPGs, it’s not science.”
BigPa chuckled before answering. “What’s a potion? Our ancestors considered some medicines made with plants as potions. It’s just a matter of definition.” He cleared his throat. “What I want to understand is that changing molecules isn’t just something you simply do on the chemical level. You also need to modify the atoms and the electrons if you want to make a complete rewrite of their natures.”
“Transformation in a nutshell.” Said the fox.
“Too vague for a scientific definition. Anyway! What I want you to understand is that modifying all this will require a massive amount of energy. If we can take an example.” BigPaWolf took a remote to activate the projector. A schematic picture of a Buizel getting smaller got displayed. “Shrinking would require a way to eliminate or stock the mass and the density of the subject in a place where it cannot affect it. There’s not much way to do it. You either find a way to nullify it or put it in another space or dimension.”
“That doesn’t explain the potion thing.” The shark intervened again.
“We’re getting to it. That amount of energy could be created via a chemical reaction like in any chemical type of batteries. If you manage to do it, your next problem would be to add the element to obtain the wished molecular change. Then make it into a drinkable solution that won’t cause any harm or death.” The white wolf interrupted to see the reaction of his students before he concluded. “It’s impossible, for now. Maybe you’ll be the one making the discovery or you’ll live in the era who’ll see this scientific breakthrough.”
The bell rang a second after he finished his conclusion. “Right on time.” He then announced the next lesson to his leavin students. "Friday, we’ll study the effect of radiation and explain why lollygagging in a nuclear reactor core won’t make a Hulk of you. Dear students, have a nice evening.” Before he packed his satchel and left.
The sun was slowly setting on the campus as the white wolf got around the lake to reach the labs. Bidding goodbye to some students on the way.
“Good evening professor Wolf.” Announced the shepherd dog security guard at the entry.
“Good evening Mike.” he greeted as he searched for his badge. “Where did I put it?” Before he retrieved it from his bag.
The guard announced. “You know you don’t really need to show it today. You’ll be alone in the building. They’re all gone to professor Rick’s retirement party. I’m even surprised you’re here.” as he unlocked the door.
BigPaWolf entered, answering. “I didn’t know him well and I have this big project close to fruition I’m working on.”
“Ah! Okay, tell me if you have any.” The dog started before he suddenly received a radio call.
“Mike! Mike! We got another fight here! it’s that green roo from the economy and that grey wolf from the sports team again.” announced the voice.
The security agent exhaled in defeat before he grabbed his stuff and ran where he was called. BigPa didn’t mind as he rejoined his lab and put on his usual scientist gown. He then turned on the radio before he focused on a microscope.
The radio announced. “Strange catastrophes are occurring in the region. Chunks of land seemed to be disappearing from the surface only leaving holes and craters. Authorities are baffled as witnesses are talking about grey metallic objects scooping the land and taking it into the sky. Wait! Apparently other countries are also experiencing the same events.”
But the wolf was too much into his work. “That’s exceptional!” He exclaimed to himself. The chemical he was working on seemed to be the source of his joy. “It’s so powerful and it’s not showing any stop.” He wanted to add another catalyser.
Suddenly a deafening noise came from outside and made the whole building tremble. The white furred wolf just had the time to get out from his work post before everything shaked. This was an earthquake and a very strong one which was strange, very strange, and paranormal. The university was built in a region with no fall or seismic activity.
After a few seconds where BigPa couldn’t stand on his paws, everything stopped for a couple of seconds. Before an immense strength literally grounded him, almost flattening him on the ground.
Like the quakes, it stopped after a few seconds but once again it was followed by another event. Lightheaded feelings, before the white werewolf realized that everything was starting to float, even himself.
Then he violently fell back on the ground along with the rest.
BigPaWolf was loudly panting, his heart thumping in his chest as he stood still. Laying on the ground, totally panicked. But after a few minutes where nothing happened, he finally got back on his paws. He had to assess his current situation and figure out what happened.
For the moment, it looked like the whole building got taken from the ground and dropped back. The ground and the walls seemed to not have suffered much from the mistreatment. Good thing they had a building engineering lab that built those labs as a 1st prototype for natural catastrophe proof building. It’s probably what saved the white furred werewolf’s life.
It’s when he opened the secured entry door that he realised, this wolf wasn’t in Kansas anymore. All around the building, after a couple of meters, the ground abruptly stopped. The university and the city that was supposed to make the surrounding and horizon was now replaced by an alien one.
Big white pillars all around, they were big and tall as BigPa couldn’t see the base or ends of it. The labs were now a sort of island who landed and hung between a few of those pillars.
There was no point in searching for the exact location of this place. He couldn’t be in space as he was breathing oxygen and not in a vacuum. That would mean he’s already on another planet or another dimension if not the space between space.
The big question is now, how to get back home? BigPaWolf turned and returned the question. Tried to see it from different angles, inventoried everything in the lab that he could use but there were no other answers possible. He was stuck here, the only hope left would be that whatever caused this and set things back to normal.
The chances were more than insignificant but still a chance. The only thing was now to wait until something comes up or someone manages to call him and help him out of this pit.
For that he had to survive, thankfully between the breaking into room fridge and vending machines. He had enough sandwiches, chips, water and soda to last a whole month.
For days BigPa tried to figure out a way out of this. Despite the current impossibility, it was still better than boredom. He also tried to collect a sample from one of those white pillars but they were out of reach. He could try to reach the ones supporting the lab but wasn’t skilled in climbing and didn’t want to risk falling into the white abyss under. Strangely those pillar texture looked like hairs
This world was way beyond strange. Regularly, a smelly grey fog invaded the surrounding area, at least 3 times a day. Once a day, giant blue drops would drip from those pillars. The wolf tried again to take a sample but he was unable to break the surface. This liquid was sturdier than it looked.
Boulders would also appear and disappear around but always disappeared when the pillars seemed to move.
“I never understood what this world was. Until now…” BigPaWolf explained to the man who wrote all this on his pad. And the werewolf continued with his story.
“I found some of my old notes about this experiment and decided to redo it. Back then after the incident I was unable to reproduce the result I obtained just before I got into this strange world. With the modern equipment I got now I was expecting to finally get the breakthrough I wanted years ago. And the results were far beyond my expectation.
The energy created by the chemical was so powerful, it caused a sort of rip. It was like an opening leading to an extremely tiny world. I tried to observe it but it was too tiny for any magnifying lens or even microscopes with the samples I took.
A couple of days passed and I finally got the opportunity to test a nanoscope. The first thing they wanted to test was my beard. We even joked about finding the crumbs from lunch when we saw this. My beard up close was strangely familiar and we found a crumb that didn’t look like food or dust.”
“That’s when I finally understood…” Said The white furred werewolf while he looked down at his thick white beard. “That’s why I immediately came to you. I figured that only a genie would be able to help me.”
Owen the neko genie, put the notepad away and took off the glass that wasn’t here a minute ago. “So, if I understand well. You just realised that you didn't rip through dimension but time and the micro world was in fact your own. You scooped out yourself and now your past self is surviving in your beard.”
“Exactly. I had trouble pulling out the last sample and didn’t think some would have fallen into it. After that, the rip suddenly closed itself.” BigPa explained.
The genie with brown fur floated closer to him before he told. “It’s your experiment from back then. The power you created was like a beacon to your recent experiment that was powerful enough to open the rip.”
The werewolf asked. “Can you fix this back to normal?”
The neko genie poofed his blue kiseru into his hand and took a puff from it. “Of course I can. I mean you wouldn’t be here if I couldn’t. We’re kinda closing the loop you unintentionally created.”
“That’s pretty logical. Disrupting time with an experiment and going into a genie lamp to fix it.”
The wolf said in a sarcastic tone.
“You didn’t tell me how your return happened.” said the genie, ignoring the comment.
“I saw a bright flash of and the lab light and other things that disappeared from the world returned like nothing happened.” Explained BigPa.
“Okay then.” The genie stretched his arms and snapped his fingers. “Done!”
“That’s it?” asked the white furred werewolf, surprised how short and easy it was.
“Yep, fixed your teeny tiny time loop. Why? You expected something more flashy and magical?” Asked the genie, a little annoyed.
“No no, it’s okay. Thank you very much.” The wolf thanked his genie before he tried to leave but remembered he was in the genie lamp. Only the magical being was able to make him enter and leave. “If you don’t mind can you…” He started to ask and turned to face Owen.
Only to be washed by a stream of blue smoke exhaled by the genie.
“Since I did you a favor, you wouldn’t mind staying a little and playing with me.” The neko djinn said and from his tone it definitely wasn’t a question.
The wolf already started shrinking. “I guess I have no choice then. Be gentle with me please.” Half his size and still getting smaller.
“I’m always gentle.” The genie said as he picked up a doll sized werewolf.
