Finally getting the photo from one of the knights, Relena looked closely at it, the happiness the soldier displayed with his family truly moving her and causing her heartache once again as she empathized with how he felt. Handing the photo back to the soldier, Relena told him she knew exactly how he felt as she managed to escape her home after it was taken over by the warlord and his soldiers. Hearing this, the soldier curiously looked at Relena and closely examined her face, letting out a shocked gasp upon getting a better look due to the light of the bonfire. As Relena asked what was wrong, the soldier asked the lioness her name; which she curiously gave. The soldier’s face turned from idle curiosity to outright disbelief, proclaiming that she was alive. Baffled, Relena asked if she knew the soldier, to which he stated that she didn’t know him, but the Sanguis soldiers knew about her. Relena’s mentor asked how that was possible, to which the soldier explained that the warlord put a sizeable bounty on the lioness’ head after she managed to escape his grasp; sending it out to the various locations his soldiers were stationed. In disbelief, Relena tried her hardest to process the information, almost panicking now that she knew that she was marked. As her feelings began to overwhelm her, Relena felt a calming hand on her shoulder from the soldier, stating that he was sorry and that it would be best if she went into hiding. Relena told the soldier that, while that would be a good option, she didn’t want to run anymore as it meant living a life of fear once again. Relena, with confidence and absolute conviction, told everyone that regardless of what happened to her, she wanted to put an end to the Sanguis soldiers and liberate everyone under the warlord’s control. Hearing her words, everyone cheered for the lioness, with the soldier joining along. Turning toward the soldier, Relena asked what he intended to do. Thinking for a moment, the soldier explained he was unsure exactly what to do, but as he too was sick of the Sanguis soldiers, he would do what he could to help; but he couldn’t outright flee, stating he needed to get to the next base. Getting up, the soldier gathered his belongings and prepared to leave; but before he could, he stated he had something for the group. Given the group was working hard to fight against the soldiers, the man gifted the group with a map with several trade routes, along with the locations of several bases, stating he hoped it could help them. As the soldier began to leave, Relena’s mentor asked when they might see him again as they needed as much help as they could get to fight the other soldiers. The soldier told the knight that he was unsure as what to do as there was so much at risk, but he promised that he would find the group one day and offer what he could. Leaving the group, the soldier walked back into the thicket of trees, vanishing amidst the darkness after a moment. As the group watched the soldier leave, one of the knights asked if letting him go was a wise decision as there was no way they could know if he was telling the truth or not. Relena, having experienced similar despair and anguish she saw in the soldier, told the group that she had a strong feeling he could be trusted. Nodding firmly, Relena’s mentor told the group that he believed the same. As the group rested, Relena told her mentor that they needed more help as it would be impossible to take on larger groups without more man power. Agreeing with Relena’s sentiment, the knight thought for a moment and suggested they pause their ambushing of Sanguis soldiers and instead travel to various towns and see if they could recruit others to their cause. Agreeing to the plan, the group finished their discussion and retired for the night. As Relena lied awake, she couldn’t help but think about what the soldier said and how much suffering the warlord had caused, and how it only fueled her determination even further. If there was one thing Relena was going to make certain, it was that the warlord paid for his crimes.
The next morning, the group awoke from a well-deserved rest and began their quest to recruit others to their cause, in hopes of ending the warlord’s tyranny. Over the following month, the group traveled from town to town in the hopes of adding to their numbers, utilizing the map given to them by the soldier as a way to avoid areas and routes the Sanguis soldiers would take. Despite the group’s best efforts, they only managed to gain 5 additional recruits, giving them a total of 11 members. In spite of this, the group tried their best to maintain hope that their resistance would grow; however, they would receive a great shock that would offer a great deal of change. During their travel to a far-off town, Relena and her group were approached by a group of individuals wearing unmistakable armor. What Relena and the group saw terrified them as they were approached by a large group of Sanguis soldiers; and due to the open field they were currently traveling in, fleeing was futile and fighting was suicide due to how outnumbered they were. Readying themselves, the group prepared for a fight, knowing it was their only option. As the soldiers approached, the lead member stopped his group with a hand signal, asking where Relena and her group were going. Relena’s mentor stated it was none of their business and to let them through. The lead soldier chuckled and asked why he or his party should do that, when there was a bounty in front of them; pointing at Relena. Stepping in front of his disciple, Relena’s mentor told the soldiers that she wouldn’t be going with them and that he and his group would stand their ground to protect her. Getting out from behind her protector, Relena stepped forward and said that if the options were to surrender herself to the soldiers or die fighting them, she would openly choose the latter choice. Pointing her sword at the lead soldier, Relena told the man that she would never join them. The lead soldier chuckled and told the agitated lioness that, he didn’t want HER to join them, HE and his group wanted to join HER. Relena was taken off guard by this and asked what the soldier was talking about; to which he stated he was happy he found the lioness and her party again.
Removing his helmet, Relena and the other members of her group were shocked to see that it was the soldier they had spared a month prior. The man told Relena it had been a while but he was happy to see her and her party. The soldier told the group that he had made his decision and that he wanted to join Relena and her party of resistance members and help bring an end to the warlord’s rule, throwing his helmet to the ground as symbol of rebellion. Though happy that the soldier wanted to help, Relena questioned who the other members of his group were. The soldier smiled and said like Relena and her group, he had been busy as well; and during his time visiting different Sanguis soldier locations, he managed to recruit those who wished to be rid of the oppressive rule they were under, all of whom had family they were eager to get back to or endeavors they wanted to continue. Explaining all of this, the soldier and his entire party bowed to Relena and her group, saying that they wished to help end the nightmare. The lioness and her party were truly bewildered at the turn of events, but accepted the soldiers help; with a teary eyed Relena truly touched by the gesture. Standing up, the soldier told Relena’s party that he managed to recruit a grand total of 39 soldiers to this cause, with each one ready to fight against the warlord. Stepping over to Relena, the soldier extended his hand asking if the lioness would accept their help. Smiling, Relena shook the soldier’s hand, stating that she and her group would gladly accept any and all the help he and his party could offer. Thanking Relena, the soldier asked for her and his group to meet the other soldiers who were ready to fight alongside them. After a series of introductions and greetings, both Relena’s party and the soldiers cemented their alliance by exchanging information and strategies in order to secure their victory. A group now comprised of 50 members, Relena felt that the added strength and information would help them turn the tide against the warlord; the very thought of ending his reign filling her with uncanny jubilation. Relena’s mentor announced to the entire group that he was happy to have everyone there with him and that with everyone’s help they could succeed in their goal. However, while he was thankful for everyone joining him, he owed the formation of the group all to his disciple, Relena. Holding the young lioness close, Relena’s mentor told everyone that her courage was what inspired him to take up arms when no one else would; and as a result, he turned leadership over to her, knowing that she would lead them to victory. Shocked, Relena asked if her mentor was sure about the decision, only to receive a firm nod and the assurance that he had the utmost faith in her.
Steadying herself, Relena announced to the entire group that she wouldn’t let anyone down and that the warlord would pay along with all of those who willingly followed him and his abhorrent actions; stating how she would work hard and fight with her heart and soul, expecting everyone to do the same. These words prompted everyone to cheer for her declaration, ready to follow her in to battle. The sound of everyone cheering for her caused the fire in Relena’s heart to burst into a raging inferno as if drawing strength from those who believed in her. Thanking everyone, Relena told the group that she would need to devise a plan and welcomed everyone to join her in crafting one. Settling down for a moment, Relena alongside her mentor and lead soldier helped devise a strategy to fight the warlord, with both advising they attack some of the bases first in order to rescue and possible recruit more enforcements. Relena, however, decided against this plan, reasoning that if they took too many bases out, they might alert the warlord and he might try to increase his defenses and security if he caught wind of it. Instead, Relena suggested they do a sneak attack on the warlord’s main base of operation. It was here that the soldier admitted that he didn’t know the location as it was only given to wardens and elite soldiers, anyone the warlord knew he could trust. Smiling, Relena revealed she knew where the location was, as she had escaped from it. Looking over the map, Relena asked her mentor to identify his town, which he circled on the map. Using the point circled as a starting point, Relena thought back to how far she must have traveled and circled a spot located in a vast wilderness as a rough estimate. Confused, both the soldier and mentor asked if Relena was sure, to which she assured them that there was a high chance of him being at the location. Relena went on to explain that the location in question was the Leastra citadel and it was taken over roughly 10 years prior and the only reason it wasn’t marked on the map was due to it being an abandoned stronghold that was very well hidden. However, the soldier asked how they could possibly get in, as it would be odd for a random group of soldiers to show up, especially if they weren’t delivering something of importance. Thinking for a moment, Relena remembered what the soldier said in regards to there being a bounty on her head, and decided to use it to her advantage. Relena explained that she would be used as bait in order to enter the citadel without any issues, stating that if any questions were asked, they could say a higher-ranking official gave them the location. Both Relena’s mentor and soldier was amazed at the plan, stating that it was perfect; a sneak attack on the stronghold that would be impossible to prepare for. Patting Relena on the back, the lioness’ mentor smiled, stating how he knew he was right to let her lead. Smiling back, Relena explained more smaller details of her plan so that everyone in attendance knew what to do. After explaining the details, Relena ordered everyone to continue to the next town and pick up supplies, because a long journey awaited them and an even greater challenge was at the end of it.
Following Relena’s orders, the entire group continued on their path and into the next town, with Relena and her prior party purchasing various supplies the entire party needed in order not to cause panic. For nearly a week and a half, Relena led her resistance force to the Leastra citadel, with each night ending with the lioness bonding with the various members of her group, listening to the stories how what they wanted to do once this was all over with and what they wanted to get back that was taken from them. As Relena and her resistance members neared the Leastra citadel, the lioness gave everyone a rousing speech, reminding everyone of both the plan, what they were fighting for, and the end result should everything go according to plan. Giving everyone her sincerest gratitude, Relena ordered everyone to commence with their operation. Giving one last hooray for their final battle, all the members began getting into position, with Relena’s mentor and prior team hiding within a transport the soldiers brought with them, to some of the warriors attaching false shackles to Relena’s neck and hands to give the illusion of her capture. Finally, each soldier used their swords to scratch and gouge at the Sanguis soldier emblem emblazoned on their shoulder to differentiate them from the others. Once preparations were finished, the entire group walked into the forest shrouding the citadel, with Relena’s excitement reaching its peak. Traveling through the forest, the resistance finally managed to reach the Leastra citadel gateway, being guarded by several Sanguis soldiers. Upon reaching the gate, the soldiers asked what business the group had at the citadel, only for the lead soldier to explain that they had captured Relena and were ready to present her to the warlord. Nodding affirmatively, the soldiers allowed the resistance members through, unaware that they had sealed their fates. As her members escorted her back into the citadel, Relena felt her rage resurface seeing her home in the same condition it was when she escaped; but tried her best to keep her emotions down as not to raise suspicions. Glancing around, Relena could see other soldiers snickering at her, with some murmuring at her supposed capture, fueling her desire to take everything back. Seeing Relena in chains, one of the elite soldiers told the group to remain where they were so that he could fetch the warlord; which the party did without question. Leaving and returning after roughly 10 minutes, the elite soldier returned with both the warlord and several soldiers in tow. Seeing Relena, the warlord flashed a sinister smile, claiming how good it was to see the lioness again, almost as if reminiscing about an old friend. The warlord remarked how he hoped Relena enjoyed her life away from the citadel, as he was about to make every moment she drew breath a cruel reminder of what happens to those who defied him; proclaiming that once he was done with her, her corpse would be hung for everyone to see.
Relena, instead of responding with fear or anger, smiled at the warlord and calmly proclaimed that she was unsure about his declaration; explaining that the outcome he envisioned for her might not be coming true. Laughing full heartedly, the warlord expressed his desire to break Relena’s rebellious attitude, stating how much she hadn’t changed since last time. Relena remarked how much things HAD changed, with the main difference being that she had friends this time around. Whistling, Relena gave the signal for her team to begin their attack. In an instant, Relena’s group leapt from the transport, throwing clusters of smoke bombs, followed by various soldiers doing the same, shrouding much of the area in dense smoke. Removing her shackles, Relena grabbed a sword handed to her by one of her party members and quickly ordered her resistance to attack. What followed was Relena and her group attacking and disarming various soldiers amidst the smoke, successfully being able to take out various members during their unprepared state. Sensing the danger, the warlord fled the scene, escorted by his elite soldiers. As the assault raged on, the commotion quickly caught the attention of other soldiers who quickly joined in on the battle; but it wasn’t long before various members of Relena’s resistance began to spread to other areas of the town. After only a little time, various battles had erupted around every corner of the Leastra citadel, with resistance members clashing with the Sanguis soldiers; and the citizens hiding in fear of the various battles. Seeing the warlord flee, Relena gave chase, fighting off the soldiers that dared get between her and her goal; making use of the tools given to her by her team. As Relena fought her way through the soldiers who stood in her way, she was helped by varying members of her group who encouraged her to end the battle and free those under the warlord’s control.; filling her with exhilarating fury and stalwart resolve as she raced to end the struggle.
Making it to one of the higher portions of the citadel, Relena looked down at the town below, seeing the various battles that were underway and how her party were fighting their hardest. However, Relena felt that more could be done. Inhaling deeply, Relena called out to all of the citizens below, telling them that if they wished to reclaim their home and drive out the invaders, that they should take up arms and fight against the soldiers, being sure to avoid the ones with the damaged shoulders; stating that now is not the time for fear or hesitation, but the time for action. Hearing Relena’s words and recognizing her, the citizens realized that what the young lioness said was right and that they should use force to eliminate their oppressors, lest their one chance of freedom slip away. Many of the citizen’s grabbed whatever they could and began fighting against the soldiers, their desire to remove their shackles propelling their fortitude. Seeing the citizens fight alongside the resistance, brought a smile to Relena’s face, but she knew that in order to truly claim victory, she needed to defeat the leader. Moving up the upper levels of the citadel, Relena fought her way past various soldiers, using her skills, fury, and the equipment she had on her person. Upon making it to the final tower, Relena came across a lone soldier, much larger than the ones before wielding a large halberd, guarding the tower’s entrance. Seeing the feline, the soldier told Relena that both her life and journey ended with him; stating how he would enjoy ending her life, something that should have been done long ago. Readying her weapon, Relena steadied her hand and rushed at the guardian, clashing her blade with the soldier’s weapon; and nearly being thrown to the ground as a result. Both Relena and the soldier clashed blades, with the former being thrown around and sustaining several injuries as a result. Though the solder outclassed Relena in terms of strength, the lioness would not permit this one obstacle to further get in her way. Making a run for the soldier, Relena clashed blades with warrior one more time; and during the deadlock between the two, Relena grabbed a smoke bomb from off her hip and detonated it at point blank range, shrouding both her and the soldier in a veil of smoke. Scrambling away at last moment, Relena was able to make her way around the soldier and pierce her sword through the warrior’s exposed flesh, bringing him to his knees. During the point of his faltering, Relena picked up his halberd and in one mighty strike, brought the blade down into the soldier’s back, cleaving through his armor and killing him in the process. Breathing a sigh of relief, Relena moved past the soldier’s corpse and climbed the final tower, where she knew the warlord was waiting.
As Relena climbed the tower, she was surprised by the lack of resistance, something that both pleased and unnerved her. Making it up the tower, Relena burst through the door and was immediately attacked by the warlord, narrowly avoiding the swing of his blade and receiving a small cut on her arm as a result. Quickly getting distance between the warlord and herself, Relena prepared herself for the final battle; however, as she tightened her grip on her sword, she felt her senses slightly dulling for some reason. Almost losing her balance, Relena tried her best to maintain her senses. The warlord, furious with Relena’s rebellion, sneered at the lioness claiming that a “little bitch”, such as her should have been killed long ago, lamenting that he hadn’t done it when he observed the first hints of her rebellious attitude. Relena, still trying to maintain her senses, told the warlord that that was his one mistake, and she would make sure he paid in full for it. Clashing swords with the warlord, Relena wondered why her thoughts were going hazy and why she felt so weak. However, upon looking at the warlord’s blade, it all became clear to Relena, as it was seeped in purple liquid. Backing off, Relena tried her best to focus her senses, stumbling as she tried to regain her footing. The warlord laughed at Relena, claiming that she had fallen prey to a specialized poison saber that his forces were producing, claiming that it would make his army even stronger and after he killed the lioness, nothing would be able to stop his ambitions. Snickering, the warlord told Relena to savor the final minutes of life, as the poison was fast acting; but the vile despot claimed that he wouldn’t offer her that mercy. Staggering to her knees, Relena reeled as if trying to keep herself upright, but failing. As she sat on her knees, Relena tried to stand up but her legs wouldn’t respond. As the warlord rushed to deliver the final blow, Relena looked up, just in time to see the swing of his sword. In that moment, time for Relena seemed to slow down, and just as her life flashed before her eyes; the lioness’ fortitude momentarily broke through the effects of the poison, not wanting to die after everything she had been through. Gripping her sword and swinging it with great speed and force, Relena’s blade cleaved through the warlord’s striking arm, causing the limb to fly away from her, sword still in its grasp. Seeing his severed arm caused the warlord to recoil in fear and unbearable agony, causing him to drop a multitude of things from a pouch on his hip. While the items didn’t distract Relena, one particular item caught her eye. Amidst the pile, there was a small vial of green liquid that seemed important. Considering that the warlord used a poison blade, Relena reasoned that it could be the antidote, presumably if the tyrant himself accidentally poisoned himself. Using what strength she had left, Relena staggered for the vial and plucked it from off the ground; uncorking it and without hesitation, drinking the liquid in one gulp. From the moment Relena drank the mixture, she felt her senses clearing up and strength and feeling returning to her body. As Relena regained her composure, she was able to steadily stand on her feet and after a moment she was brought back from the ill effects of the poison.
Looking over at the warlord writhing in agony, Relena walked over to the tyrants’ dropped weapon and picked it up, before slowly strolling over to the warlord. As the warlord cradled the stump that was once his arm, he saw Relena approaching him from out of the corner of his eye. Seeing the sheer burning anger in Relena’s eyes as she approached him, the warlord begged the lioness to spare his life, apologizing profusely for his actions. Not wanting to dignify his pleas, Relena kept silent as she slowly strolled to the warlord, fire in her eyes and unbound hatred in her heart for the man in front of her. Delivering one finally plea, the warlord argued that he didn’t want to die. Still not uttering a word, Relena pressed her foot onto the warlord’s chest, ensuring that he couldn’t escape. Solemnly and coldly, the Relena readied her weapon and countered the man’s argument with the stance, that many of the people who the tyrant had killed, didn’t want to die or be used as pawns for his plans. Relena then remembered something the warlord told her, prompting her to use his own words against him. Relena told the tyrant that everyone has their role to play, and the only one that suited the tyrant was dead. Taking the sword, Relena pierced through the warlord’s heart with his own poisoned blade; and as she slowly watched the despot die and curse her name, the lioness felt no remorse or pity in her heart. As she watched the last of his life fade from his eyes, Relena felt her anxieties, fears, and anger melt away from her heart, now knowing that it was finally over.
Taking the warlord’s body, Relena dragged the corpse down to the lower levels of the citadel, until she was out in clear view of everyone. Gathering all the strength she could muster, Relena let out the loudest shout she could, announcing the death of the warlord by her hand. In that moment, the entire citadel went deathly silent, with battles stopping almost immediately. Everyone close by, could only look towards the young lioness in disbelief; and as she threw the dead body at her feet, resistant members and citizens erupted in a bout of thunderous applause and deafening cheers. Even some of the Sanguis soldiers dropped their weapons and joined in, clearly happy that they were no longer under the warlord’s control. Though the sound was overwhelming, Relena basked in the wave of celebration that cascaded over her. As Relena stepped into the open, several resistance members swarmed her and lifted her up in joyous celebration, carrying her throughout the town. As she was carried, Relena saw as both her team and citizens cheered for her, expressing their utmost happiness; however, there were several familiar faces that the usurper was all too happy to see. Seeing their little girl, not only alive but responsible for returning order, Relena’s family rushed towards the men carrying her, demanding to see their daughter. A heartfelt reunion that Relena only believed to be part of her fantasies, the lioness embraced her parents and grandparents, happy to see that they were alive. The warmth of her family surrounding her, Relena couldn’t help but shed tears as she nuzzled against the collective embrace of her family. As she held close to her loved ones, Relena’s attention was caught by a gentle tap on her shoulder. Looking up, Relena could see her mentor and many of the resistance members cheering for her.
Breaking away from her family for a moment, Relena deeply thanked her mentor and various resistance members for helping her with the daunting endeavor, stating how it wouldn’t have been possible without the former’s training and the latter’s support. Relena’s mentor chuckled and told Relena, that in reality, everyone should be thanking her as she was one of few if not the only one courageous enough to resist the soldiers and bring everyone together with her valor and fortitude. Embracing Relena, the knight told the lioness how she ignited the spark of courage in his heart and how, like her, he knew exactly what to fight for. Stepping forward, the lead soldier from before told Relena that without her to inspire rebellion in him, he might not have been able to see his wife and children again. Smiling at the kind words given to her, Relena shouted that all citizen’s shackles were to be removed and any remaining forces be driven or dispatched as the warlord’s reign had ended. Obeying her orders, the resistance members proceeded to free every citizen, drive away any remaining Sanguis soldiers, and check for any members that were in hiding; while Relena had her injuries tended to.
After finishing up Relena’s orders, the resistance members reported in confirming that everything had been taken care of; and just as the sun rose overhead, Relena finally felt at ease. Feeling the fatigue from the night prior, Relena told the resistance members that they were free to rest at the citadel; as she too wished to regain her strength and rest with her family. Escorted back home by her mentor, Relena thanked the man, who insisted she sleep as he and some of the other members would keep watch over everything. Thanking her mentor, Relena retired to bed, falling fast asleep after her head touched her pillow, the comfort of her own bed enveloping her as she quickly drifted off. A day later, Relena awoke to the morning sun. Waking up, Relena headed into the kitchen where she was greeted by her excited parents, who expressed their utmost joy that she was awake. Smiling, Relena joined her family for breakfast, with various members wondering what she was going to do now that they were free again. In spite of their question, Relena, knew exactly what she was going to do; and that was destroy the remaining Sanguis soldier bases and eliminate its forces or free its captives. Despite this Relena’s father told his daughter that even if she managed to help free the citadel, it was still too dangerous; stating how it was wonderful she wished to help others, but he didn’t want her to die in combat. Though understanding her father’s position, Relena told her dad that it was too dangerous to leave the bases alone, lest the Sanguis soldiers manage to rebuild itself and cause more issues. Thought not entirely pleased, Relena’s father understood and told his daughter not to do anything reckless, to which she agreed whole heartedly.
Leaving her home, Relena walked about her town, saying hello to the various citizens who went about repairing the damage from the revolution, to various members of her team who were either helping or watching over certain events. As she looked about, Relena was greeted warmly by her mentor who asked how she was feeling given the events a couple nights prior. Explaining that she was feeling ok, Relena asked if her mentor would help her, as liberating the citadel was only one phase of plan. Curious, Relena’s mentor asked what that was, to which she replied with eliminating the remaining Sanguis soldier bases; for fear of the group starting up again. Smiling, Relena’s mentor told his disciple that he would be honored to. Thanking her mentor dearly, Relena quickly gathered supplies and members to help her on the endeavor; being sure to leave a good number of warriors behind to help defend the citadel in her absence. Departing from the citadel later that day, Relena and her group set off to clear away the remaining remnants of the Sanguis soldiers.
Over the following few months, Relena and her resistance members, helped to eliminate the various bases and facilities that the Sanguis soldiers utilized; liberating the soldiers and citizens forced to work there, eliminating the truly vile warriors in charge, and effectively destroying the facility, making use of guerrilla tactics to do so. After finishing her operation, Relena and her forces returned back to the Leastra citadel, feeling truly accomplished at having erased the Sanguis soldiers influence and restored some semblance of order. Upon returning, Relena was greeted warmly by various resistance members and citizens, but something was “off” about them; prompting her to ask what was wrong. Stepping forward, one of Relena’s teammates told the lioness how some of the resistance members had been talking with various citizens about the state of the citadel and how there was no clear authority; going on to ask if it were possible for her to be the Leastra citadel’s ruler. Shocked by this, Relena told the soldier that she had no idea how to be any such ruler. Placing a firm hand on Relena’s shoulder, the girl’s mentor told her that he had faith in her ability to lead, given her success in dismantling the Sanguis soldiers, going as far to say that given she had a good amount of knowledge and training that others lacked in the community, it would be a perfect fit for her. Seeing the confident and proud spark in her mentor’s eye, coupled with his reassuring tone, filled Relena with much confidence; and not wanting to relive the same situation over again, Relena accepted the position. However, as she didn’t wish to RULE over the citadel like the warlord, she decided to simply be its LEADER; wanting to guide everyone and improve things. Hearing this, the citizens and warriors cheered, with Relena beaming brightly.
The years that followed, Relena acted as the Leastra citadel’s de facto leader, ushering in positive change to the way people lived and went about their lives. Due to Relena’s reputation of leading the rebellion that wiped out the Sanguis soldiers, many people sought to live at the citadel, including her mentor and the various people she helped liberate, from citizens, warriors, and craftsmen. The number of people who came to the citadel hoping to live there prompted the expansion of the town and its facility. In addition, Relena, not wanting anyone to attack her home again, established the Leastra guard, an organization of various warriors designated to protecting the citadel and its people; as well as establishing several secret groups tasked with reporting any sort of strange happenings to her. Making her mentor the general of her forces, Relena gained notoriety for her valor and doing what others deemed suicidal, attracting more and more visitors and those who wished to live at the citadel; and because of the traffic, the Leastra citadel was placed on various maps, no longer considered a hidden location. For many years, Relena dedicated herself to bettering her combat skills and fighting alongside her established forces to defend her home from various threats, from bandits, rouge warriors, and even the lingering remnants of the Sanguis soldiers who wished to defeat her. Once a prison of anguish and despair, the Leastra citadel was now a prospering sanctuary that many called home; an accomplishment Relena held dear to her heart, and with all her might she was going to make sure it stayed that way.
Personality: As a child, Relena behaved relatively normally given the conditions placed on her and the other citizens of her home, trying her best not to agitate or anger the soldiers or warlord who took control of it. Due to these conditions, Relena was initially fearful of the warriors who controlled the citadel, much like the other citizens of the fortress; reluctantly settling into complacency due to there being little that could be done. Aside from the hazy memories from before the citadel was taken over, happiness was a bit of a foreign concept to Relena as the treatment she and her town were routinely subject to, only filled her with despair and anguish. As Relena grew older, this despair only gave way to animosity and resentment towards those who enslaved her town; and while not always outright vocal about her distaste, her feelings were very apparent due to her near constant glare. Due to Relena’s defiant attitude towards the warlord’s whim, many tended to avoid her for fear of facing possible punishment, resulting in her being alone for a majority of time; with her family frequently apologizing on her behalf. In spite of her disdain, Relena still managed to present a well-mannered and grateful attitude towards those who helped her, best shown in her interactions with her mentor and those who assisted her during her rebellion. Even though hatred was a large part of Relena’s childhood, it would soon act as the fuel for her determination, stoking the flames of rebellion that burned within her.
As an adult, Relena typically has a far more relaxed and composed demeanor, all the while presenting an amicable and respectful disposition that still makes her approachable to both the citizens and soldiers of the citadel, as well as the outsiders merely visiting her home. When tending to the townsfolk of her home or not actively performing her duties, Relena is cordial and surprisingly casual. This is proven as Relena will not only help out the citizens if she sees them struggling, but will usually engage in idly conversation and will even attend events that the citizens host. In these moments, Relena can become jovial and more lighthearted that one might suspect; sharing in bouts of laughter, stories, and jokes whenever possible, showing that despite her position she is still capable of having fun at times. Complimenting her overall demeanor is how Relena carries herself when associating with others, as she presents a more modest mindset and image that one might not initially expect given her standing. In spite of her reputation in both liberating those under the control of the warlord and inciting a rebellion against the Sanguis soldiers, Relena is very humble about her successes; choosing to attribute her victories to the soldiers and various people who helped her get to her current position, rather than claiming all of the credit. Her modest it further shown in that Relena doesn’t like the titles of “queen” or “ruler” as she believes it suggests superiority, which she doesn’t want; preferring to guide those under her watch rather than control them. Despite all that she has done and the lives she has helped better and save, Relena states that she is no hero and doesn’t wish to be treated or referred to as such; merely insisting that she is “just someone who wanted to make a change”. This is further supported by Relena behaving somewhat uncomfortably when referred to as a hero, believing that she is undeserving of such a title.
Due to her years of experience in both battle and leadership, Relena is decidedly courageous, choosing to fight alongside her soldiers for the sake of her home and its citizens rather than just give orders. Whenever battle is presented to her, Relena never expresses doubt whether or not it can be won and will charge forward with no hesitation. Even as a young girl, Relena demonstrated an uncanny amount of courage by choosing to defy and rally against the Sanguis soldiers despite the possibility of failure and death; a feat that many considered both suicidal and foolish. Due to so many depending on and revering her, Relena describes both fear and cowardice as “luxuries” that are not afforded to her; stating that she must maintain strength and a strong will for both her soldiers and the inhabitants of the Leastra citadel, so that they will have no need to worry. Strengthening her courage is Relena’s unwavering resolve as she fights and protects those under her watch with the utmost determination and fortitude. Regardless of the odds or enemies pitted against her, Relena remains self-assured in her approach, not willing to run or shy away from whatever challenge presents itself to her. Compounding her courage, resolve, and determination, is Relena’s compassion which is easily one of her more prevalent traits. This kindness and consideration is more commonly seen when Relena tends to the citizens and her allies as she treats all with equal measures of respect and dignity; never seeing anyone’s life as expendable or less than her own. This is even seen when Relena decided not to liberate just her home from the warlord’s grasp, but put her life on the line to continue to seek out and destroy the other bases and free those still trapped under his control; ensuring that no one else would fall prey to his influence.
Befitting her position as a leader, Relena is very intelligent and insightful, being able to make the best decisions possible and make tough choices whenever the moment calls for it. For this reason, the citizens and soldiers trust in Relena’s choices with very few ever questioning them; but she still allows others to make suggestions showing that she is open to discussing possible changes and ideas. It’s due to Relena’s leadership that helped expand the citadels town, establish the Leastra forces, and use the weapons that the Sanguis soldiers made to augment her towns power, ensuring they will be prepared for any possible threats. In battle, Relena’s position as a leader continues to shine through as she is very tactical and sharp-minded, being able to devise various strategies that greatly benefit her and her soldiers, allowing her to manipulate unfavorable odds and turn the tides. Even as a child Relena proved to be both a quick thinker and resourceful for her age; being able to escape her prison and flee the citadel as well as helping devise a plan to infiltrate the fortress for a surprise attack by using herself as a gambling chip. This also demonstrates Relena’s tendency to take risks and gambles for her plans to work, being ready to gamble her own life if it means making forward progress. In addition to her leadership skills, Relena has the ability to attract and unite people, inspire courage in others, as well as spur people into action. The best examples of this is when she was able to convince others into forming a rebellion with her, rousing the citizens to take up arms against their oppressors, and bringing everyone together to form a greater and more thriving town than before. For these reasons, Relena has earned the undying loyalty and admiration of both the citizens she watches over as well as the soldiers she commands, which she cherishes greatly.
While normally calm during casual moments, when it comes to training, battle, or dealing with difficult matters; Relena’s demeanor can drastically shift. Due to how seriously she takes her position and the wellbeing of her home and its inhabitants being the utmost importance to her, Relena can be rather severe, no nonsense, and strict especially when she feels its warranted. As such she has little tolerance for those who are not willing to put in the effort in helping defend the citadel or those she feels are “wasting her time”; expecting not the same effort that she gives but a soldier’s personal best, considering anything less an insult to the people who rely on the protection provided. It is also worth noting that during this time, Relena will forgo tact; choosing not to mince her words and being extremely honest, often times bordering on blunt. If displeased, Relena will say exactly what’s on her mind, regardless of how it may sound. A perfect example of this is when she trained Maple, where Relena openly questioned how the cat managed to survive for so long given her weak resolve and lack of courage; knowing full well the consequences of not being prepared due to her status as an adventurer. Her strictness when training is made apparent by the exercises and by some of the measures she implores. One such example was when Relena destroyed Maple’s sword, stating that she would not receive a new one until she passed her training and proved herself; going on to state that failure would result in her soldiers escorting her home. However, despite her harshness, Relena still demonstrates that she does in fact care; wanting those she trains to be the best they can be by understanding what exactly they are fighting for and having the resolve to ensure their success. This care is demonstrated by Relena being less stringent towards those she knows will be alright without her, and not pushing others to the point of injury; showing that her strictness is not absolute and does have well-meaning intentions behind it. Another such example lies within her mentorship with Maple, as Relena wanted the cat to find her resolve and fight against those who threatened her life, not wanting her to die due to hesitation or doubt. Furthermore, Relena has been shown to be more caring and understanding towards those who show the resolve to carry on even if their bodies can’t keep pace. At these moments, Relena will express her sympathy and respect, even being willing to show vulnerability, acting more akin to a mother rather than as a leader or a trainer. In tandem to her skills and seriousness when training, Relena is very perceptive and is able to do or say the right things in order to gauge someone’s commitment; which more often than not provides her with all the answers she needs about the person without the need for an outright response.
In battle, Relena’s seriousness is more evident due to the price of failure being significantly higher. As a result, Relena can be aggressive and coldly merciless to her enemies; proclaiming that attacking her is the same as attacking her allies or those who depend on her; in that it is a grievous offense punishable by death. Further supporting Relena’s ruthlessness is that fact that she never really smiles during battles, wanting nothing more than to finish the fight and move on to her next objective. However, Relena isn’t truly bloodthirsty as she will offer a warning to those who threaten to attack her or her allies, striking back if her words go unheeded. When it comes to battle, one thing that Relena despises more than anything is cowardice; with her distaste being made very evident by few words and a look of disappointment or an icy glare. Relena interprets cowardice in one of 2 ways: those who actively prey on the weak or defenseless; or those who have the ability to help others but either choose not to do so or flee. This mindset was only one of many reasons Relena despised the warlord, and one of the reasons that she treated Maple with disdain; knowing how she sat idly by and failed to assist those in trouble despite having the ability to make a difference, coldly calling the cat a coward as a result. For this reason, Relena strives to instill a sense of courage in her allies so that they too can be strong in the face of danger and uncertainty. However, despite this, Relena has a firm understanding of the difference between courage and recklessness; and as such, she is more understanding to someone who stays their hand due to unfavorable circumstances or unwinnable odds.
Though Relena never imagined that she would leading her home, she embraces her position and seeks to ensure peace and protection for her home and hopes to inspire resolve in all those she helps, so that no one will lose hope in the face of adversity.
And there you have it folks, another lovely character to the roster and a third lioness! This amazing ref was done by my good friend JessicaElwood/Matypup a while ago! I hope you all enjoy and be on the look out for this lovely lioness in the future!!!
*TRIVIA: One of the intial concepts for Relena was going to be a queen, befitting the usually theme that lions are known for. However, with the likes of Calista being a goddess and Fiorah being a queen, the concept was changed.
