"You know," Two said, "your ability to sense aura is incredible. Imagine how specialized your body must be to be able to see and manipulate energy that nobody else can."
"It's too early for this stuff," Ri complained, turning over. They had just woken up. It wasn't like they usually had much responsibility on any given day, but today they had chosen to take a break from all of it, and the night before, they had stayed up quite late with Red -- even for them -- since they knew that he could get lonely staying up by himself -- playing games, talking, doing stuff like that. About as close to a proper 'party' as they were comfortable getting. It was going to be a lazy day today. He wasn't really frustrated or upset, anyway, he was mostly just being playful. He wanted to cuddle in bed a little longer.
"It's 'aura day,'" Two explained.
"What?" Ri asked. He was interested now, so it woke him up and made him stir a little more to think about it more clearly.
"-- Sometimes, I browse human social media, too," Two admitted. "Today, everyone is posting pictures of Lucario and mentioning "aura day.'"
"But," Ri asked, "what actual day is it?" He thought it was cute how Two was a little embarrassed about browsing social media, but he felt there was no reason for Two to be.
"August 10th," Two said.
Ri checked the date against his memory.
"You're telling me that aura day happened to coincide across two universes?"
Two shrugged. "Important day?"
Ri didn't know, it was just incredibly circumstantial.
"Why do they celebrate 'aura day?'" Ri asked.
"I have no clue," Two said.
Ri was interested, so he pulled out his own laptop, and browsed around. Many social media platforms were toxic in Ri's opinion, and he had very little interest in the politics of other worlds. There were all sorts of toxic wars about little or big toxic (or sometimes totally non-circumstantial) things that had nothing to do with their world. If they managed it, though, they could largely avoid the toxic stuff. Ri appreciated seeing the humans of other worlds appreciate pokemon, so he searched for #AuraDay on Twitter, and was fascinated to come across a bunch of people posting their fanart of Lucario and Riolu.
"They almost appreciate us more than the people of this world do," Two said, looking on at Ri's screen as he browsed.
"We don't exist there," Ri said. "I'm sure, that if we disappeared here, it would be a lot harder for the people here than it is for the people there that we don't exist."
"I guess so," Two said, "but it would be nice to be appreciated like this."
Poor Two, Ri thought. Lucario were well-enough known on their world. They weren't particularly rare. Two was, though. Even as a gym leader and having participated once in the Galar gym challenge, Two was relatively unknown. There was no mass Mewtwo fandom on their world like there was on other worlds where pokemon didn't exist. No Mewtwo plushies or cards, no Mewtwo merchandise at all, while they profited as much as they could off of just about any other pokemon.
"Sorry," Ri said. "I wish you could be appreciated too."
"You appreciate me," Two said, giving Ri a hug. "I don't know if I want everyone else knowing about me to appreciate me. I don't think all the attention would be good attention, anyway."
Ri was thankful, and he also saw what Two meant. Two was incredibly powerful, and they had learned that being powerful just brought more powerful danger to them. It was almost better that they were able to hide, almost, in their corner of Kanto. It was safe. That was almost more important than being recognized. They had each other, anyway, and Red, and their other friends. They didn't care too much about having attention, they just wanted to enjoy themselves and the few pokemon they decided to trust themselves to.
"It's kind of funny that we chose aura day to take a break," Ri said, changing the subject. "I don't know what we'd do, but it would be cool to do something."
"Lucario might appreciate it too," Two suggested.
They had originally planned to stay home and have a quiet day. It was celebration enough for them. At the same time, though, Ri now felt inspired to do something special, since everything had lined up so perfectly by chance to give them a moment to appreciate themselves and each other.
"He might," Ri agreed. "He's not one to be disturbing, anyway."
"Not like the Mewtwo," Two agreed. Ri nodded, huffing a short laugh and smiling, thinking about how chaotic it was living with three Mewtwo other than Two. "We can still have a quiet day with him, but... I almost want to do something, now."
"To celebrate?" Two asked.
"I guess," Ri said.
"Sounds like a good idea," Two said. Ri smiled at it; he was excited to have some fun, and even involve Red and Lucario, too. It wasn't going to be a lazy day anymore; they were excited to get up and try a "proper" party for once with close friends.

Hey there! I know I haven't been too active. I've been writing, but the story I'm writing is just stretching on, and on, and on... and it's a personal work which I don't think I'll get to share.
Anyway, I learned today that it's Aura Day. I'm not totally sure what that means, but I want to appreciate Lucario like everyone else! I can't draw, really, but I can write, so I decided to whip something up quickly to get it out day-of without too much difficulty. There's a chance it might grow into its own, full story, but I'm just happy to put out something that's short and accessible and relevant. Enjoy!
Note: Since Ri and Two speak telepathically, I usually show that with italics as opposed to the usual "" thing, to differentiate it from normal speaking. .txt files don't do italics, though, and I wanted to be able to upload this story straight to FA instead of making people download files. They're speaking in "" in this story, but they're still speaking telepathically!
