That's outstanding! Forgive me if this is an offensive question to ask an artist, but did you use any real life references for this? You captured incredible realism in the scenery, particularly the shadows and the change in colour of the shallower water. Either way, well done!
I don't speak for them, but I couldn't help myself and have to point out for the purpose of spreading knowledge: Using references is a fundamental tool that every experienced artist does, and every artist should do. Even very highly skilled artists who absolutely could paint amazing things purely from imagination if they wanted to do use references most of the time because it's just the sensible thing to do.
It saddens me that this idea that using refs is bad, or cheating, or that assuming an artist uses refs is potentially offensive is still so prevalent. There is nothing wrong with it, quite the opposite. Mind you, referencing is not the same thing as tracing! When you use references correctly, you gather several, and use them as guidelines, helpers, you don't just copy them. Even if you very closely reference something from a photo, you should change it as needed to make a good picture.
I hope this helps.

I suppose my comment is from the viewpoint of someone who has zero artistic talent. If I were try and draw something using a reference image, it'd be tricky not to just copy the reference image directly, which isn't something I mean to imply this artist does :) Thanks for the insight though, and you have some lovely art yourself!
And that's OK, everyone is a beginner at first. And copying pictures can actually be a good learning exercise, and it's often done in traditional art education. Using reference well is also a skill in itself that needs to be learned and developed. And thank you! :)
I'm from Australia, but spent a lot of times in Oceanside and northern SD country, and you're right. I thought the same thing. If I'm remembering this right, it reminds me of somewhere somewhere like Solana Beach or Encinitas?
It's also quite like some beaches near where I live in Tasmania.

got it in one.... I looked at that beach and I was thinking, "I need a carne asada burito, tortilla chips, ande an orange Jarritos", because it looks like it's within walking distance from a certain coastal burrito shack that makes them as big as your head. Solana Beach is close.
Solana Beach used to have a great little Thai restaurant back in the early 00's that was a stone's throw from the beach. Can't remember what it was called.
This is simply too good not to favorite. You’ve created yet another beautiful scene. I can feel the warmth of the sun even though it’s December.
Это.просто.ах*енно.
Не могу представить сколько времени ушло на фон, но это явно того стоило. Аплодирую перед монитором

I really love your style. Having so sharp and high-contrast details everywhere in the background without distracting from the character or compromising the composition is pretty hard to pull off. Good job!
