Hey everyone!
Hope you all survived the festivities! With the year coming to a close and all pictures having been uploaded for the year we'll have our year 2021 art wrap-up.
Rules for this of course same as always, favourite picture for each month gets picked and then the yellow letters being the overall yeary favourite. So yeah, watch me ramble as i write this next paragraph without a plan!
It was a bit of an odd year art wise, i feel like i always say that for the past 4 years or so, weird year, not a lot of progress with a lot of walking wrong paths and all that, but yet if i look back to just even 2019 or 2018 and it's like... who even drew this? This is all looking so odd and why would i paint that way?
But yeah, another weird year in my view, but i guess at this point i know it's just still progressing looking back at things, so i guess it's more breathing a sigh of relief than the years before where i felt it.
STILL though, can't ever stop! Always following the urge to push things forward. Figure out how to get the light a bit better, the heads, the poses etc.
As for the yearly winner, July this time around. Always hard to win against a personal painting of course, but july and june were honestly head to head. I think the overall quality of some of the technical aspects to the June painting were better, but July simply won by being more of a high quality whole thing. I just like it when i manage to convey a sense of place well, and July just was a highlight for it i think, even if it just was a portrait.
But yes, a very honourable second for the June picture and once of the closest i've had so far.
Aside from that, yes thank you all so so much of course. Once again was a successful year on my end and hey, i couldn't do that if it weren't for you all supporting the stuff i do and having it strike a chord somewhere! Whether that is via commissions, patreon, prints to directly help with the whole earning enough to survive thing, but also just sharing things around when i sometimes see one of my paintings float by on reddit or in a telegram chat or what have you. And of course whenever you take the time to leave a comment somewhere! It's a weird world to be honest where we just chuck art into the aether and numbers happen, but only for like 48 hours before the internet's constant churn of art already has forgotten about a picture. So whenever there's someone talking about a little detail in a painting, or asking about how i did this or that, how this or that character looks cool or hot or how they use it as a phone background or whatever. It's really really appreciated and makes the effort oh so much more worthwhile!
So yes, thank you very very much all of you and let's see what 2022 brings. Hopefully even better art, maybe i'll finally start to feel confident enough to share some watercolours as well (as if), and i bet all of you will stay as awesome as you have been!
Stay safe of course and enjoy the end of the year. :)

Thank you for your kind words! Happy New Year) Be sure to show your watercolor here next year ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Thank you very much, and it's probably not going to happen but there is a chance at least!
I just can't believe that your watercolor looks bad xd Or are there other reasons?
I mean it's mostly the looking bad. So at least for now just not showing them is quite nice as there's no public expectation tied to it.
The textures in your art are so unique and painterly, I swear I literally want to just copy your whole style!
Thank you very very much! And nothing's original anymore, so feel free to try and implement as much as you like into your own style.
Lots of fantastic art this year, I look forward to seeing what you create in the new year.
There's life in them eyes mmmhmmmm~ I love how full of life and detail there is to be seen and always something new to discover in your work.
Hey you know how I feel about your art. I cherish every single piece you have done for me and I hope we will continue to make things happen!
Always a pleasure too so yeah, looking forward to what sort of shenanigans we're going to get up to!
The forecast for the foreseeable future is more seductive wolves 90%..
I know the feeling when looking back on work from even a year ago and going "why did I do that..?" or especially "wow if only I had more time to work on this commission, then it would actually be good in my eyes"(though that one is more personal).
But even with a lot of those weird mistakes made by the past self it just goes to show that even if it doesn't seem like were making big strides.. were making subtle and personal optimizations after each piece! Sometimes its sacrificing time properly, sometimes its gaining a piece of knowledge that helps with personal workflow! While its semi sad to know an art piece will be forgotten in a few days for most, it's also nice to know that as a result its easier to experiment and there's less of a need too get hung up about images your not as interested in!
Love your work Nomax, wish I could support you more! But I wanted to leave a comment because people like me are always silently watching and going "woooow, beautiful.". I look forward to a new year of checking out your work and elden ring!
P.S. I always preferred Gouache myself and my apologies for whatever bad grammar may be in there.

Hah yeah that is very true that the pace of the internet has it's upsides too and i certainly posted a few pictures exactly because knowing that "eh, nobody'll remember it anyway" :'D And of course as the artist itself the view of what's bad and what isn't is always a different one too.
And yes thank you so so much for taking the time to write it down! I'm always trying to be better about it myself and baby steps and all, but yes it very much is appreciated!
Guache is fun too, i just like how high the highs of watercolours can be and how different it is from all the other opaque mediums.

honestly that's why I appreciate sites like FA who don't have the infinite scrolling feed of content style of messages. Because they don't come with the sometimes-all-to-hard-to-meet expectation of being always online, always needing to be present to see things lest they disappear forever. Like how I got to comment on a month-old image because I had meant to :)
of course, that also means that sometimes I'm too prone to getting too hung up on something, so y'know, you lose some, you win some
Have a good new year, whatever your plans for midnight are, and hopefully, hopefully, see you soonish

Yeah, i'm trying to make an effort to comment more on here as well because of that. I feel it's worthwhile to keep the activity going because yeah, the pace is nice here. Nothing is rushes, everyone's just kinda doing their thing and it's nice to get comments on things that sometimes are years old.
And of course all the best for you too Karbs! May all the wishes be fulfilled, more ears, bigger paws, the whole chagrin! Always appreciate you!
