Some more time spent on private pictures. I always love when ships have just this whole mess of lines going on. it must've been like some old-timey server room to maintain them.

This is gorgeous, I am a sucker for ship rigging, you did a wonderful job making this feel real and alive.
God of furry art. I want to write this again — you’re my fav artist!
Always wonderful to see more canon art of your sona, the sunset is pleasant and gives a sense of the vastness of the horizion while at sea but also muted enough not to distract viewers from the focus of the piece. Expert composition as always. Have you ever given any thought to what sort of crew he might have?
Oh he never is part of the actual crew, usually just a passenger in what little i had planned.
Still, ship travel wasn't exceptionally fast back then. Definitely would've been some social dynamics intra-passenger and between crew and passengers.
Yeah, just never went too deep into it story wise. Initially because of lack of time and now it's more because i don't feel i'd be a particularly great writer :'D
I'm not sure I'd want to be out on that spar with a broad-tailed coat in a high wind...
Such a gorgeous piece! I can see art like this framed on a wall, inside an actual ship. Or inside a journey-themed, fancy restaurant near the ocean.
This painting radiates such a strong atmosphere, I love it.

Thanks a bunch, and yeah probably one of the more frame-friendly paintings of mine!
where were you when I was writing 'The Dread Pirate Tabor'?
it's only a rope if it's not being used for anything... as soon as it is incorporated into the rigging, it has an exact name reflective of its use.
I had so much fun writing that particular novel, and I learned so much about sailing...

Ohh i bet! It's always fun to pick some subject for a project of some kind and then dig into it to learn about it. Always such a fun thing to do :D
The naming of the rigging is actually pretty logical, once you know the names of the masts and sails. Standing rigging is called stays or shrouds, while running rigging, that control the sails, are called sheets. A three masted ship of the line can have miles of cordage, HMS Victory had over twenty five miles, including the large cable.
Love the picture.

I must chime in with the rest here, this is such a wonderful piece.
Rigging and lines contrasted against the sunset really does compose nicely. With your character center stage? This is brilliant.
There's some pretty fascinating info when it comes to rigging. Standing and running, fore and aft stays, shrouds, most of it all was dedicated to keeping the mast upright and stiff.
What you've got here is the bowsprit, and it has a slew of lines all mostly called stays, a few gales, several guys and even a single rope! :D

Oh nice, the image is a bit small though, might have copied the thumbnail link?
But yeah, it's a structural element, so makes sense that a lot of it is for stabilizing stuff.

It was honestly the best image I could find which accurately labeled all the bowsprit rigging, Ctrl+Mousewheel for most interfaces to zoom the image :}
Stunning artwork! <333
And definitely true, ship rigging was perpetually undergoing maintenance of some form or another

Yeah i meant it more in the way that there are hundreds of them in the same way there are hundreds of cables connecting all sorts of server stuff with one another :D
Confidence and balance on a breezy day. I suspect the swells were light, allowing him to clamber up there with confidence.
Oh yeah, it's very much non-canon because he'd never manage it! Just looked cool.
You can tell when someone has a fascination with some object. How? The level of unnecessary detail in its finer details when someone draws or paints it. You didn't need to draw all the sail pullies so nice. But you did anyway. :D
Nomax def loves the great age of exploration and all the cool sail ships that entails yes? :P

Very much so! They just look really cool. if only they weren't so complex!
Sail ships are super cool tho. So much cool history came from the age of sail. I like the complexity. So much engineering with so few tools and yet they made it work.
Reminds me of "Wanderer above a Sea of Fog"... but furry, and at sea
a composition I don't see everyday (understand : original) ; I like. Good job !

That's not how you steer! Silly puppy.
Early utility installations were also a spiderweb of chaos, not unlike some of the server rooms I've seen. Except more deadly:

Yes it is, just with the wind resistence of the ears i'll be able to steer it
Great fang, it's always awesome to see your personal work.
