Miners: large, sweat soaked, dust covered rock dwellers who live and work in the deepest, coldest, darkest places Norskia has to offer. A bit of a harsh explanation for what they do but a fairly accurate one as mining is a major industry on the resource rich planet. Often living in towns built into the very mountains they work in, these Norskians spend much of their time working in deep dark mines lit only by fairly dim ceiling lights and torches on their helmets, hacking away at the rock in search of mineral wealth as carts loaded with their bounty are either pushed along the rails or, in larger mines, pulled out by miniature locomotive engines that haul multiple cartloads of ore and rock back to the surface. Working in a mine is not just hard but often very dangerous with the threat of cave ins, explosion accidents, gas leakage, electrical malfunctions causing fire, flooding from hitting underground water tables, and the risk of breaking into a naturally occurring cave system and waking up one of the many hostile cave dwelling creatures on the planet. Sadly this job has one of the highest injury and fatality rates on Norskia, though this makes the miners a rather hardy bunch who, despite being still among the basic lower and middle class, know their efforts keep their people alive and fairly good pay, government provided housing, and medical coverage reminds them just how valuable they are
Once the ore has been removed from the ground the Norskians then put it through a processing plant where the impurities are removed and the material either melted or cleaned off further and packaged. The exception are fossil fuels such as coal (their word for the clumps of condensed non-organic based carbon in the planet's crust) which is shipped out to settlements that need it and oil (liquid methane) thats sent to refineries to be made usable. Once the minerals and ore have been cleaned and smelted down they are turned into ingots or bars of the metallic material and shipped off to foundry's where they are, once more, melted down to be poured into molds and made into parts.
