Yaztheria: Map of the Empire (not made by me!)
Yaztheria, a land of ice and snow. Of grassy plains and soaring mountains. A land both as embracing as a mother's love and fatal as a assassin's poison. Yaztheria is many things, and comes in many environments with even more diverse inhabitants, feral and sapient. But above all it is home to the Yaztherian Empire, a vast and relatively young superpower that unites all the Yazie from coast to coast. From the ice sheets and frozen rocky plains of the Northwest, the Mountainous highlands of the Northern center of the country, the sprawling taiga of the Northeast, and the rolling plains and hills of the Steppes in the east. Yaztheria is a nation forged not just for power, but to enact the will of the All-father and his son. A Empire formed to bring peace to the harsh land and to give the people of this land something: hope. Hope that in the future their children an grandchildren will not have to see friends torn apart and devoured by wild beasts, freeze to death in the endless blizzards, or be drowned in the tide of death that comes once the night falls.
In Yaztheria is a massive multi-ethinc and multi-national confederation of nations under the leadership of an elected Emperor, united in the desire to live another day and bring prosperity to their people. The Empire is made up of several different provinces, each one ruled over by their own leaders, often referred to as the Warlords, and are themselves made up of hundreds of smaller local regions that are ruled by a noble of some kind. The culture of these provinces also varies, resembling the earth celtic, nordic, germanic, frankish, and mongolic cultures.
It is also home to not just humans, but four major races of beastfolk who make a considerable portion of its population, nearly matching humans in combined number. These are the Scoti (bear anthros), Inkutik (wolf anthro), Slavi (bovine anthro), Rataz (rat anthro), and Vendiga (Wendigo ) races who have some traits of humanity, being descendant from mutated humans themselves. While the relationship between them and the human Yazie has been strained in the past, and outright hostile at times, the modern day relations between the races have warmed dramatically as they interact on a daily basis.
Modern day Yaztheria is a paradox, a shining beacon of life and prosperity while also being a nation beset by darkness and suffering. Yaztheria has to constantly battle against starvation, disease outbreaks, large wildlife, and dangerous weather, and above all the dark creatures that seek their destruction. Yet it is also a powerhouse of innovation, developing fantastical steam powered machinery in rather small numbers and ever pushing the bounds of science. Where once stood ramshackle villages now sit towns and cities of stone, housing tens to hundreds of thousands of people with the larger cities housing over a million souls. The nation is also a military titan with vast armies of well trained and equipped soldiers ready to defend the Empire's interests
Above all though, Yaztheria is a land of Faith against the darkness, a beacon of light besieged by a Great Curse, brought forth by unknown darkness. A curse of undeath. In Yaztheria the dead do not rest, but rather are taken over by a dark and malicious force that uses the bodies of the fallen as mindless drones in its plans. These undead, often twisted and mutated into hideous and grotesque forms, exist for the soul purpose of devouring the flesh of the living and drown the world in a tide of undeath. Those the yazie once knew, now having their corpses twisted into horrors from nightmares, relentless, tireless, and ravenous for the flesh of all living creatures. It is only through the constant efforts of the Yaztherian armies and the sacrifice of their warriors do the hordes get held back and smashed. Though it never ends, for whenever one is destroyed another rise to take its place.
Yet for generations Yaztheria has stood, a bulwark against this darkness. And with the blessing of the All-Father, it shall do so for generations more.
