A figure was lying on grassy ground. It had closed eyes, but quickly opened them, because it felt that it wasn’t where it was usually falling asleep. After getting itself from the ground and briefly cleaning the clothes, creature looked around.
Grass looked ordinarily and the same could go for flowers that could be seen in small quantity. Trees, albeit more twisted, still looked relatively normal. Even if the character felt the gusts of wind, they weren’t unusual.
Before it, however, was standing a strange structure. As the figure looked at it, the conclusion was made that it had to be a maze, made from various flora specimens. It was also surrounded by moat filled with water.
Character looked at the sky and started to have more concerns. It was in the state of twilight, but instead of clouds, the stars could be clearly seen. Additionally, the sun was covered by moon in state of full eclipse.
Figure went to the moat. The water in was still and clean, so character could see the reflection. It was a seamless hybrid of goat and wolf. Goat head, featuring eyes with rectangular pupils, as well as four horns on it, had some features of wolf, like set of teeth resembling those of a canine.
It was dressed in blue shirt that was covered by black long coat. Hands were more wolf-like, which could lead to a conclusion that whole arms were like that. Legs, which were covered by dark grey trousers, had goat hooves and similar conclusion like with the arms could be drawn. An ornate saber was hanging from the hip.
”Damn, I’m handsome”, character commented when it saw the reflection.
”I admit that you look quite decent, Semezh”, disembodied male voice responded to the comment.
”Vitosh? Where are you, debil?”
”In a middle of the maze before you.”
”And where are we?”, Semezh asked he was looking around again. ”Yav? Nav?”
”Not that it matters in the slighest. Your goal is to find me.”
”What’s the game you’re playing at, zasranets?”, man in a coat started to get more frustrated.
”I remember your words where you said that you will manage on your own. And you can prove it now. I think a demon like you should finish this task without many difficulties.”
”With pleasure”, horned creature smiled.
After getting through the water-filled moat with one long jump, Semezh started exploring the floral maze. Because of the presence of various flowers on the walls, the interior was filled with strong scent.
The green walls were relatively trimmed, if someone wouldn’t count the flowers. Similar thing could be said about the ground and grass on it. However, as demon progressed slightly within the structure, he came up with an idea.
He reached to his hip, grabbing the handle of his saber. He pulled it out of the scabbard and started slashing the floral wall before him. He was laughing internally, as he was doing it, but suddenly, he was pushed away from it because of a creature that appeared before him.
There was very noticable difference in height between Semezh and huge entity. It resembled a deer, but it was made from conbination of flesh, plants, bark and branches. Demon recognized it and that was leshen. After roaring loudly, it charged towards the hybrid.
Demon swiftly got out of the way, but the enemy was relentless. Swiping with the long arms around, it wanted to hit the swordsman. However, it wasn’t his first fight, so the combo was evaded, but the last strike was blocked, which sent him few meters back.
Semezh landed in a position, from which he could quickly continue the fight. Leshen placed the hands on the ground, sending a wave of sharp thorns towards the opponent, but the high jump was enough to dodge.
Still with the saber in hand, demon charged towards the creature. While doing it, he reached to his pocket and took out a lighter. Leshen wanted to strike first, but swordsman cut off the hand and put floral parts of his enemy on fire. Using that moment, hybrid cut off opponent’s head with one swift swing. After briefly checking the body, demon sheathed his weapon.
”You thought you could outsmart it?”, Vitosh’s voice could be heard.
”At least I’m not a moron that you think I am”, Semezh replied, as he was lighting a cigarette.
”Either way... great work, witch hunter.”
”He wasn’t a witch”, hybrid released smoke from the mouth. ”You’re more like one.”
”I am more like a sorcerer.”
”Uh huh... Then look at my spells.”
”I would not advice it...”
Swordsman took his lighter and placed it near the green wall of the maze. Before the flame touched it, however, small rat-like creatures grabbed the arm of the demon and wanted to drag him inside. He quickly reached for his saber and cut the creatures in half. This made him fall to the ground, but he swiftly stood up from the grass.
”See?”, Vitosh said and was laughing briefly.
”Screw you”, Semezh replied, as he threw extinguished filter away.
”Do you have any ”clever” ideas, matokha?”
”I do”, hybrid smiled and started moving forward.
”Yes... your magic sensing ability that your species possess. You reminded yourself of it quicker than I have thought.”
”Yeah, mock me further... At least I’m not a bad guy, like you.”
”Am I bad?”, Vitosh asked with more serious tone. ”And I started to think you are not that dumb.”
”It’s true, chort”, Semezh responded and started counting on his fingers. ”You’re trickster, tormentor, egoist, douchebag...”
”Stop with those false accusations. You are matokha – demon that hunts witches. However, instead of doing it because you want to, you blindly follow your vocation.”
”Liar!”, hybrid shouted loudly. ”I hunt witches that wants to harm mortals, so the world would be safer. So I do have a goal, unlike you.”
”And I have a goal as well”, Vitosh replied with pride in his voice. ”I keep the world interesting, so it would continue on progress.”
”You can do that without making contracts that mortals later regret. And that means you’re evil. If we weren’t bound with one body metaphysically, I’d kill you long ago.”
”If I die, you die as well. Besides, it is not my fault that mortals are greedy. I just teach them the consequences of such behavior. Either way, it is better this way than being together as Deviant.”
”Don’t even remind of this...”, Semezh said with disgust. ”It was terrible. Clashing thoughts that would lead weaker minds to suicide. But yeah, two heads are better than one.”
”Metaphorically speaking, yes. Having two heads literally would not look that good.”
”I agree – I’d look terrible. But I look great. Like the center of this maze, to which I got to without your help.”
Semezh arrived at the center of this maze. It was a quite big space, which was mostly empty except for the large flower that didn’t flourished yet. It was few times larger than hybrid and had matte black petals.
Suddenly, a huge creature appeared. It was about the same size as flower and had stag-like features, as well as three eyes. However, it quickly was covered in flames and turned into ash because of the flower blooming.
In the center of it, a character could be seen. As demon got closer, more details could be seen. First visible thing was the identical attire to his. Also, the figure was goat like, instead of his goat-wolf nature. It also had rectangular pupils and four horns on the head.
”Bes?”, Semezh asked, a bit confused. ”You hate those, Vitosh.”
”And it is true”, he replied. ”As a chort, I like to manipulate them more than any other creature.”
”You still didn’t change.”
”And I have no intention of doing that”, Vitosh responded while smiling.
”So...”, witch hunter pointed his hand on the wall. ”Care to explain all of this?”
”We are in dream projection”, chort replied, as he started going slowly in circles. ”I like contracts and bets, as you know. So after our last argument that you can do better on your own without me, I wanted to check that.”
”You could just say it to me in normal world”, Semezh crossed his arms on the chest. ”You know that I’d accept it.”
”True, but I wanted something more... interesting.”
”And more favorable to you. I know you, Vitosh.”
”So it is good that you proved me wrong”, chort stopped before hybrid.
”And what’s the reward?”, swordsman asked with confidence.
”How about five days of having our body only for you?”
”Sounds good.”
Vitosh went into Semezh and they merged together. However, body was that of a chort.
”Hey!”, Semezh screamed inside witch’s head.
”Sorry”, demon laughed for a while. ”I couldn’t resist.”
After a moment, matokha’s mind was dominating, changing their body to his.
”How do we get out of here?”, Semezh asked.
”Jump inside that black poppy”, Vitosh spoke inside his head.
”I remember you said something about them... aren’t those flowers that grow in Vyrai?”
”What can I say... I like symbols.”
Witch hunter sighed and jumped inside the black flower. Soon after, the petals started to surround him. Eventually, he was completely in darkness, but that enabled them to arrive at mortal world.

Demon goes on a journey to the center of a maze. However, this expedition is far from being an easy one.
I looked at the current (as I'm writing this now) prompt and at first, I was confused. However, I quickly realized that my recently created character (or rather characters... that's complicated) fits here nicely. Not only I could write something that's fantasy, but also I could incorporate Slavic themes into it. There are nice details here, so if anyone is interested in them, just ask.

Interesting supernatural mechanics. I sense a lot of worldbuilding in the background that we're not aware of. Your characters have great personality too.
Fun fact: Originally, this used to be one character, but being inspired by one person, I made some modifications. Now, it's two characters and each of them have their own body, but only one of them can exist at the same time. They can split up, but not for long.
Here, I went more into character building, but there's some info about it too. There are things related to Slavic mythology and culture and if someone could notice them, it'll make it more interesting.

That's a cool idea--taking a single character and making them into two, but then making that decision part of the lore. Very nice.
I don't want to write all of the backstory, but it was like this.
This used to be one character - a demon, but with parents of different species. Because of that, the character had conflicting thoughts, but this was still one personality. After a certain event, the character got split into two, but because of the nature of that event, they couldn't exist separately, so metaphysically, only one of them can exist at the same time. If not, they'd eventually cease to exist.
