The longer workdays before his paternity leave had been arduous, prolonging the time spent away from home and family, but, in the end it had been worth it. He'd be home for months to spend with his wife and son. As he made it home and was settled in, Matt's thoughts wandered to life up til then. Meeting Isabella as kids, falling in love during their teens, and marrying in their young adulthood, and now, now they were parents. Isabella had waited all day to tell him the news, breaking it to him as they sat on the couch for a movie. Matt was joyfully surprised, the two sharing a long kiss as tears of joy fell from their eyes. He became nervous for a time, making plans to turn their storage room into their child's, thinking up names and what he and Bella would spoil them with. When the time came and they found out they were to have a son the two would decide on naming him after Isabella's older brother, who had encouraged Matt and Isabella to admit their feelings for each other before it was too late. In a way, Isabella's brother had been like one to Matt as well, approving of the wolf and seeing that Matt cared for Isabella but was simply afraid of telling her.
Matt snapped back to the present, walking down the hall as he heard the quiet voice of Bella playing with little Eli in his room. He gently pushed the door open, seeing Bella and Elias playing peekaboo, the vixen hiding her face behind her hands before parting her hands to catch a giggle from Elias. Matt's heart fluttered, seeing that Eli was sitting up on his own now, a tinge of regret that he hadn't noticed when he was working overtime shifts, but he'd make up for it now. "Heya, hon', I'm home." Matt said, stepping into the room to seat himself beside his family, little Elias turning to look at him with eyes filled with wonder, his little arms reaching up as his hands grabbed at the air. He babbled as he began to tilt over, Matt catching him from falling, tickling the baby folf, earning a shriek of joy and laughs. Isabella slid closer to Matt as she laid her head on his shoulder, turning her head to kiss him. "Looks like he missed you too, love. He looks a lot like you, y'know. Guess he'll grow up to have good looks then." Isabella giggled as she ruffled Matt's hair, getting a kiss back as Matt held Elias between them. "He looks like us both, Bella. He has your eyes, babe, look, even your hair and freckles." Matt kissed Elias' forehead as he reached up to both parents. Bella reached a finger out for Elias to teeth on, Matt chuckling as Bella turned to look at him. "I think he gets that from you. I've seen the way you chew on straws, stripes, I always thought it was a bit cute." Isabella joked, noting Matt's penchant for teething on straws whenever he got a soda, often having to get extra because of his habit. Bella kissed him again as she stood up, turning to leave the room as she watched her two boys, snapping a quick picture as she giggled. "I'll start on dinner, babe, see you in a few, we'll finish it together."
Matt was now alone with Elias, holding the folf in his arms and marveling at being a parent. He recalled the anxiety he felt about finally becoming a father, asking his dad for advice. It wouldn't be easy, but he and Bella wanted this, to spend the rest of their lives together and start a family, one day seeing their grandchildren, growing old as they watched the fruits of their labor. Matt spent a lot of time at Bella's side while she was pregnant, the two continuing to do their usual hobbies, but Matt learning to stock up on more food for when Bella had unusual food cravings. Folks said he was a bit more anxious than usual, which he agreed with, but they were also very supportive of the two being first-time parents. He was back in the moment as the little folf began to playfully grab at Matt's nose, moving his head back before moving it close for Elias to try again. From what Bella observed Elias seemed to like grabbing and teething Matt, grabbing his cheek tufts or chewing on his ears, but Matt found it endearing. Matt let Elias chew on his ear for a bit, tickling him to get it back, and holding him in front of him to look at. He really did look like him, but in those eyes he saw Isabella, the only one who could've given him such a wonderful part of his life. He could see the wonder in Elias' eyes that were no doubt in his own, but the little folf looked sleepy, eyelids beginning to droop. Matt pulled him close as he reached down for a blanket, bundling the little folf up as he rested against his chest. Elias could hear Matt's heart beating, cooing softly as he clung to his shirt. These were the moments Matt looked forward to in the months prior to Elias' arrival into his and Bella's life, his first cries and their shared tears of joy as they held him in their arms was the beginning, and Matt looked forward to more moments to cherish and look back at. He began to smell the sweet aroma of dinner in the kitchen, standing up with Elias in his gentle grasp, scratching his ears and making his way to the dining room. He sat Elias in his high-chair, watching as he rested while Matt went to help Isabella with dinner prep, the two quietly talking and making affectionate touch between cutting vegetables and readying tableware. Matt and Bella would not forget the feeling of joy in their arms, watching Elias in shared silence, words not enough to convey their love for each other and their little bundle of joy.
