My friend from New York, eocostello gave me a wonderful, posable stuffed toy which looks a lot like my Steamfox character, and we got to discussing what his favorite TV show would be. Of course, my NY friend suggested "The Rat Patrol," and my friend "The Major" marmelmm worked some of his rendering "Magic." Thanks guys!

And after it's over, you go STRAIGHT to bed, young cub! (Rat Patrol was on 830-9 ET, Monday nights.)
As you noticed, FEF Mk II is sitting atop his handy towel and the item has proven to be quite useful. "It smells like 'home." he explained from his place on the shelf. It also serves as a pillow, a blanket, and a dandy escape device in case the Vogon invasion should ever take place.
Or, for that matter, if you encounter a Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal. https://hitchhikers.fandom.com/wiki.....Beast_of_Traal
I can't see why not. Who knows what mischief future afternoon chats might inspire?
these plushies are giveaways from a german bank specializing in construction/house and home-building loans. the original one was a four-legged plushie by Steiff, with an added goggles made from a black plastic foil. (I once caught two of them at a flea market downtown, and gave one away to Mayfurr when he was able to visit germany one last time before heading back to down under). over the years the design went to a two-legger/humanoid foxy, first with wire glasses, then plastic framed, then frameless. yours looks like wireframe? there might be a print on the front of the shirt of a cross-like stack of four bricks, the bank's logo.
there was also a girl fox, too, or maybe still is. she has no glasses, but wears a red tie on top of her head, and a jeans skirt instead of pants. these are quite rare, for whatever reason.
there also was a large one, some 60cm tall, similar outfit. I think they were given away when mom&dad grabbed a big loan with extras...
you can find these plushies occasionally on flea markets here, or on ebay. since the bank does TV ads, the foxy is quite popular, widely known as "Bausparfuchs". used to be animated by hand, then by computer, where they refined movement and details more and more; he still has no claws or visible canines... I think there are a few mascots, too; one was used when the bank advertised a dependance in I think, Shanghai a couple years ago.

(I got two from a German seller on eBay, and gave one to steamfox because I thought it looked like him.)
Anbessa Yes. FEF Mk II has wire frame glasses and the exact bank-brick markings you described. He also has wires in his arms and legs, so he's posable to a degree. I like the idea of the "Vixen" with a red hair bow and the Jeans skirt, but I need another stuffed toy fox like I need another hole in my head. If I remember correctly, Fuchschen beer had some Anthropomorphic fox and vixen mascots cast in plastic that would be on display in bars and pubs selling their products.
This ad made me laugh out loud. https://knowyourmeme.com/photos/103.....-furries-furry
EOCostello I'm currently looking for a miniature railroad engineer's hat that will fit FEF Mk II. I'm not exactly certain if the "Build a bear" workshops have such a thing, but I know they used to sell a "Train Conductor's" outfit that had a striped cap. a red bandana and a miniature set of bib overalls. No Mantlet gloves or steel-pawed boots though. I might be able to rig up those props, though.

Samson tobacco also has of course, lions for mascots. there used to be page ads in some magazines with scenes full of cartoon lion people having fun while smoking.
there also was a big wooden lion holding a tray to advertize for the stuff; I saw one at an antique shop. it's incredibly tall, a good 6 feet if not more, especially considering the lion sits on it's haunches, and it's fairly massive, too. I'm tempted to ask the price tag, but it wouldn't fit through my front door, nor anywhere in the house... so, there.

ooh, I hope shipping didn't kill it. I still have to find a suitable and affordable way to ship stuff to the US...
The FEF jrs. arrived in fine shape, and one of them also arrived safely in CA. I've had decent luck with German eBay shippers.
awesome! sounds like I'll have to look into shipping methods again. :)
Sorry. It's a prop. It was intended for a smartphone that has been long out of production. Oddly, it has evidence on the inside of the molded, plastic shell that it could have been designed to have electronics inside it. I've often fantasized about "Ricing it up with a real, working TV inside.
Well, I'll be! I got mine right out of the box, but there were no instructions. Such a shame too, because if I had an old-style smartphone that would fit inside, the only way I figure it could amplify the sounds from the phone is with the hollow plastic ersatz TV's body acting as a resonant chamber.
Seems like a neat little toy. I'm tempted to get one; I should be able to make it work with any old smartphone.
Hey! If it does work, let me know what kind of phone it is that fits in there. My "Android Galaxy AO2s" is just too big.
I finally bought one of these! It's a cute little toy.
Just about any smartphone of a certain size will work, it can even be a little bit larger as the top and the side slots are open. My dad's old Motorola (I forget what model -- it's a G3 and no longer works as a phone but is still a fully-functional Android device) fits in just fine and works great as a media player. The bluetooth speaker works well, too. I've yet to try out the music and FM functions.

YAY! I believe I'll get a smartphone that fits in my "Toy" and make a separate account where I can watch old cartoons and stream old TV shows. I'll chat with my local Tech at Target.
Thanks Tim!

Oh that is a neat one. Heh, memories of watching Rat Patrol as a little one... My big brother loved that show and well I ended up watching it too. Dad was a little worried about me watching the violence and said " Oh they are just shooting at bunny rabbits". Me: "Okay" Mom comes home and 5 year old me blurts out "Mommy, we were watching Rat Patrol and they were shooting Germans and Bunny Rabbits!"
Considering Mom was Norwegian and was almost 11 when Norway was invaded... she got a chuckle out of it. I heard that tale from the folks for years. Poor mom also had some PTSD issues from the war
I'm terrible, came up with a Watership Down / WW2 crossover... at the drop of a hat...
Hey! There's a few, remarkable, computer-generated animated features depicting rabbit-soldiers in "The Great War" slogging it out in the trenches.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cwn.....0o8Io&t=5s
And a more recent feature with rabbits and camels duking it out in the desert.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9wn.....O59M&t=30s
You might want to turn the sound down during the "Toy Commercial" preceding the video clip, as it's like twice volume.

I have to thank you for your bit of digital "Magic," Major. Setting up the shot was fun for being "Spur of the moment."
The spur of the moment ones tend to be the most fun...
Now I know how to keep a young Tod entertained, should I ever encounter one.
Heh! I figure my "Mini Me" foxy would be happily preoccupied with a mini laptop.
Oh! I'd give almost Anything to watch Saturday Morning Cartoons and some original anime like Robotech, Outlaw Star, Cowboy Bebop and Patlabor again.

Man, listen to more of their stuff. They are very odd. I love 'em.
To tell you the truth, my sister gave it to me because she couldn't figure out what to do with it. If I recall correctly, she got it as a "Gag" prize from a Church raffle.
I know! My friend gave me the toy fox character, and we got to chatting about old TV shows, and I had the TV prop on hand. My friends and I made a joke about what the fox would watch on TV, and my friend "The Major" worked some digital magic and dropped The Rat Patrol title from the old TV show into the mini-TV screen.
TV will rot your brain!

"There is something so unsavory about flying a kite at night." (Marge Simpson.)
;used to fly the all black Gala Super Bat kites at night, just add cheap aluminum pie plate, glow stick and a little something that made noise in the wind. Get to altitude, tie kite line to tree or something , move back a bit and wait for folks to freak out and call the cops about it. Glow stick with shiny aluminum made for an interesting thing to see in the dark and the kite whistle thing from some book I'd read on Chinese kites just added to it.
Ypu... Are EeeeEEEE-Vile!! -And you might have had influenced the rise in UFO sightings at the time. Good job!
Small weather balloons, aluminum foil, glowsticks, and fishing line are fantastic for that. Fun times with University astronomy club friends. We found a box of still good balloons in the basement of the science building and a tank of helium.... Dallas area had some interesting UFO reports at the time, even showed up on radar....
OH NO! Don't tell me you set 11 glowing balloons tied together to make a "V" formation loose over Phoenix in 1997?
Nope, did mine in 1987. As for the Phoenix lights, I figured someone did the same thing. Was laughing my ass off over it - I used to get a laugh in the Dallas area - high altitude balloons launched from Palestine Texas would drift over the area, would put on quite the display in the early evening. Police switchboards would light up along with calls to the Air Force Base in Ft Worth, etc... Neighbors would be outside looking at it in dismay. Me, drag out my telescope, get it in the eyepiece and look at the gasbag , parachute and instrument package that was up at 100000 feet. 6 inch mirror Newtonian - damn nice scope still after 43 years.
I love this, also, is that a dial-style television phone-case?
It's something of an enigma in itself. Yes. It is a phone case, intended to carry an older style Smartphone, and it could be said that the plastic case acts as a resonator for the phone's speaker, but that's about it. However, the molding of the device included a battery compartment and various tabs and moldings inside the case hint that electronics of some sort could have been installed. unfortunately, the knobs and switches, along with the antennae are "Dummies." There's a few for sale on eBay if you're interested.
some of those cases had batteries to run extra features on the case or help charge the phone running the screen
Crap, I remember that show.
I watched it with my dad.
I watched it with my dad.
How cool! I just remember a small segment of one show where one of the characters made a rolling bomb out of an old bus filled with drums of gasoline and went up against Rommel's halftrack which blasted the bus to bits with its machine gun. If I remember, "The Desert Fox" got away, a bit singed, but still defeated.
It's been so long since I've seen it that all I really remember is a lot of jeeps flying around in the desert and that it involved Rommel.
One of my favorite old shows as well! ๐
You'll probably get a laugh out of this, but just posted my own 'Steam Fox' Miniature, with his own Brit. LRDG Land Rover! ๐ฌ๐ง๐๐ฆ๐๐
(And apologies, I dropped off the site - and community - around 2020, so made a new account...)

It was TV shows such as "Rat Patrol" or "Daktari" that featured several Land Cruisers where I got a "Crush" for those particular vehicles.
Ah yes, the old LRDG Willys Jeeps, they made quite an impression on me as well! (Ironically, they filmed quite a bit of the open desert scenes up at/near Edwards AFB - I got to see a few of the spots when I was working up there!) ๐๐
I had a bit of fun setting up the toy TV and the plush fox figure. I'm hoping to find a Smart Phone that fits in the tiny TV and load it with action movies and images for my visiting friends, and "Four-Eyed-Foxy Junior" to enjoy.
My friend marmelmm worked his GIMP "Magic" and added in the graphic on the little screen.
