Asheru's Costume Details
This is how Asheru's costume is constructed. When it comes to costume I really sweat the details, because every made object tells a story, The more the details are thought out, the less you ahve to waste words to tell the tale, and let the viewer puzzle it out, But still it's nice to show how it's done sometimes

Clothing patterns? Wow, that's a little more than I do. I don't sew, so I wouldn't know. Armour I have to work out the same way, protection, range of motion, and protection trade offs and theoretical expense. Otherwise you get WoW armor which drives me insane with it's cartoonish stupidity..
Asheru's buckle doesn't have a prong, which accounts for the knot right there. It's good to see the work behind the design :)
Tying your belt in a knot seems to be quite common amongst 12th/13thC reenactors too, when buckles and clasps were really quite common. Partly it's explained in terms of just dealing with excess length, partly as a display of wealth and status should your belt be particularly posh with a nice chape and mountings. I'd love to know if that's more a modern interpretation though.

I got to admire your philosophy. I kind of think along a similar wavelength.
What I find, sometimes, is that getting to hung up on such things can royally
gum up the creative works.

it might work, but it would have to be a low hip carry, and a fairly heavy weapon as well, because the belt relies on the weight of the weapon to keep it in tight. The toothless buckle and it's knot keeps the weapon from peeling the belt off. The brass rivet at the cener back of the belt is a pivot.
