Surprise. The assassin is a lady assassin.
(There were a very obscure hint the first time she appeared in the comic)
If you know Skaven lore that will raise eye brow. And if you don't: Female Skaven end up as breeding machine (Called Brood mother) by being heavily drugged continuously.
But i always liked the idea of female skaven managing to (rarely) escape and hide, so here she go.
When young, she escaped her fate thanks to an under dosage, fighting back her "assailant", being beaten till they thought she was dead, thrown into a meat pile which she escaped from by stabbing whoever came by after regaining consciousness, and since then learned to steal food and stab whoever caught her, before turning sneaky-stabbing into her job.
And nobody know about her real identity. At least, nobody alive so far.

I love this and I agree with your head cannon. I do think a small number of Female Skaven escape the fate of being Brood mothers one way or the other having to hide in plane sight. And this peace just perfectly captures that. Thanks for drawing it!
It's more interesting for sure.
And it make sense that Assassins/Gutter runner would be the prime choice for escaped females.
Not sure the Warhammer community is ready for it though, heh.

LoL Ya your almost certainly right that the Warhammer Community is not ready for that.
And agreed Runners would be a great position for escaped females. Since they often have their sent glands removed and Eshin especially is willing to overlook things like that if you prove yourself valuable.
Got a super compelling character here and I'd love to see more of her in the future ^^

that cool idea. blend in with to boys but pretending to be one.
And better be good at pretending, or the knife will have to talk.
Although can imagine some of the lesser skaven boy rats might like/enjoy her being alive
Not that much (She is a background character in the current comic)
But i have plan, if i have the time.

Female skaven that cant be used for said purposes (its by a drug btw) are thrown in with regular clans rats. People forget this part of the lore LOL...
I'd like a source/quote on that lore, because i never read that.
not digging for a 1st ed book wont lie (I know it came out around 1986-1990) IF I have time to waste i'll find it and send it but its canon but most the whistle blowers dont even know 80% of the lore of WH fantasy (before sigmar), but basically if the drug doesnt cause them to enhance fertility and mutate etc they are sterilized and thrown in with clan rats/skaven slaves...you cant tell them apart, they dont have tits etc... you wouldnt even know the diff between a female skaven clan rat and a male one at all. Thats what I remember reading when Skaven shit first came out lmao. There was also a Skaven necromantic assassin in Eshin whom was in 1 of the books, secretive but not really spoken about after that. Theres an exception to every rule that said the said Clan Rats dont really count since again...you wouldnt be able to tell and they are just thrown in with the other drugged up and suicidal clan rats to die in droves. Many people who are new to Warhammer or started years after 1st dont know this typically.
I could see that in the 1st Ed. (I don't have it)
But first, you probably shouldn't consider anything "old edition" as canon anymore if it was never talked about again by Game Workshop (Look at some of the 1st edition from 40k if you want a laugh) and i don't remember that mentioned in any army book 4 and up (AoS not included, i don't play AoS)
Second, in the Warhammer roleplaying book (2007), the Skaven book addendum, page 23 "Reproduction", it is stated Females are rare and never leave their underground and as soon as they are mature (Two years old), end up as breeding machine. That book might not be relevant to canon anymore either, but it's more up to date than 1st ed.
The canon of the Skaven is quite loose, and the current trend is that Females are destined to end up as Broodmother, barely intelligent or even conscious (You can even check both the Wiki or Lexicanum for that)
(Also, this is Fanon, not canon. It's for fun. Game Workshop would probably not agree to the idea.)

Female skaven runners.
It's more likely then you think!
She's lovely. And I assume she must use something to mask scent/apply a more masculine scent structure.

She bath and use moss to smell like the caves.
So even if she was a male, peoples would not smell her coming.

Smart. Just figured smell might tip her off among the others, but maybe not.
Just fun stuff I like to consider in that sorta thing, Was something I considered with my girl bu she's pretty openly 'both' in smell and look.

Which is why i think Gutter Runners / Assassins is well adapted if someone want to make a somewhat believable Female skaven.
Assassins are well known for being very sneaky, so it wouldn't be odd for regular Skaven if one is rarely seen, wear clothes that hide their body, and doesn't have a smell. And if they completely disappear for a couple weeks or month for "reasons" it's not abnormal either.

Nice! The way Skaven breed, you know there HAVE to be hidden females around.
a very pluasable fanon. and very tastefully done too. I really enjoy your work.
I remember hearing this awhile ago though sadly I could never find the source.
if its rubbish or true feel free to correct me: it was a weird gender politics thing that if a female skaven was infertile, they were not considered female, just another male.
So those "not females" ended up blending in and living "normal" lives in the underdark.

Someone pointed that out in an above comment. But it seems to be from 1st Edition army book, so it's completely outdated.
The books i have (More recent, but not "AoS recent", so who know what happen in there) basically only have them as Broodmother or dead meat.

well at the very least its nice to finally know a source. so thanks allot for that.
But Its one of those thigns were I wonder if its still partially true.
it can be hit or miss when it comes to super old lore, like what quitely carried over or what disapeared.
But the one thing I always wondered, after learning about the mouse utopia experiments, [basicly showing real world mice socially turning into skaven under near same living conditions.] if skaven behaviour is nature or nurture.
if only I could ask the writers directly.

I don't think it's still partially true, as Game Workshop used to have very wild concepts on their first few Editions (40k was kinda wild), and then slowly change over Editions so it make more sense.
If something is never mentioned again, you probably should expect it to be non-canon anymore or bound to be changed soon.
As for their evil being nature, it's also hard to say, but there is "nicer" skaven, like Queek Headtaker.
Still a horrible monster (also mad), but he is more trusting and nicer to his men than other Skaven are. Which make those old Grey Seers kinda angry at him.
So i'd say it's maybe a 50/50 on nature/nurture?
But the Skaven lore is quite loose and vague on purpose, so we can all have our head-canon/fanon about our cartoonishly evil rats.

Nice rat and like the lore too!
(And given how Eshin are more or less rat weebs, it makes this funny given how often the "Samus Is A Girl?" trope showing up in well known Mangas)

May I ask what was the hint? :)

I "Skavenified" the Venus symbol (Circle above a cross) by replacing the circle with a triangle, and put it on her "bracelets".
Very obscure, as i said, hah. Didn't expect anyone to catch that.
It's visible in page 06 and 10 (And this image, on the ground)

Ooooh! I really like this idea. I'm sure powerful Seers can choose to keep females for themselves too so they wont become brood mothers. I have no idea if its a real lore before but I thiiiink some powerful Seer had female Stormvermin body guards? Mainly as a huuuge flex that he was able to get some of those. But no idea if its actually proper and true canon.
But in our own fun fake canons? Absolutely I approve of this idea. Gives the race as a whole a bit more depth. I've been debating making one of the named rattos in my story and secret female too and I think this may convince me to go through with it. Just need to try and find a good way to reveal it. She reminds me of this nice idea from Drakeven;

Makes sense too. Being as rare and desirable as she would be to the Skaven throwing her lot-life in with the man-things and trying to be secretive about that is likely just as dangerous. But hoping for the best for both of them :)

It's Thratquee, but they were Brood mothers.
And making a somewhat believable (yet still fanon) female Skaven is quite fun.
It's like a problem that need a good theory to work.

Ah! Thank you for knowing that and helping me now see that it wasn't just some weird idea that I then internalized as lore. Brain still holding those walls between 'official' and 'would be cool' strong.
The gals would have a lot of limitations and issues we as creators would need to think about. And solving those issues, by making them sneaky assassins who can hide a lot and silence those who may know, is a great way to solve it. Well done again :>
