Volpes: "Must we go through this again, detective. I've already confessed. What more do you want from me?"
Enigma: "I know what you did. And I know why you did it. What I want to know is how you feel about it?"
Volpes: "You know nothing! You couldn't possible know. How could you?"
Enigma: "About living under the oppressive regime of Oplentis? No. No, I don't. Yet I do know what it means to wield power of others. Over their very thoughts and actions."
*The subject rises from his chair, barring his teeth aggressively towards the interviewer.*
Enigma: "How did it feel, Volpes? To have the poverty-stricken citizens of Oplentis eating out of the palm of your hand."
Volpes: "I... If you must know, detective, it felt good. It felt good to have some semblance of control. To be able to make a difference."
Enigma: "Even at the cost of others' freedom and autonomy."
*The subject pauses as he returns to his seat.*
Volpes: "I... I never thought of it that way."
Enigma: "Of course you didn't."
- transcript of an interview between Enigma and Volpes, dated two months into rehabilitation
I wanted to try a different format, since I do still have a few art pieces left of "Old Volpes" in the backlog. I've always been a fan of diagetic material from fictional settings, and an interview transcript seemed like a fun format to use.
Thanks to Marsel-Defender for this lovely piece.
