Archimedes was on the trail of his next big story. The weasel had noticed a character of interest that would make for a great front-page story if he could get it right. He had noticed a fox man, always dressed in an open flannel shirt and a tee shirt underneath that. He looked rather uninteresting, but what the fox could do was much more spectacular.
He was capable of transforming people. Archimedes noticed it while he was on break, seeing the fox interact with a few people and changing them. Often, they hardly reassembled their original forms. Sometimes they would change gender, species, and some even got turned into objects. Archimedes didn't want to confront him, for he didn't want to fall victim to what the fox was capable of doing, especially before he would be able to write a story on the fox!
From what Archimedes could gather, he knew the fox's name was Skyler. That was about as far as he got other than he knew he was transforming people somehow. He often hung around with a wolf, and the two seemed to transform each other a lot. Notably, he sometimes saw this wolf transform Skyler into objects such as food at eat him, though Skyler would always pop back up somewhere else. The fox was a mystery, and it was a mystery that Archimedes wanted to get to the bottom of.
The weasel was on yet another stakeout, awaiting for Skyler to arrive at one of his usual spots - the public park. He tried not to make himself too known, but suddenly he heard a voice speaking from behind him.
"Yo, I gotta ask, why do you keep following me around?"
Archimedes jumped in surprised, turning to face the source of the voice, seeing that it was none other than Skyler himself.
"I want to know why you're transforming people and how you're doing it Skyler." the weasel answered, doing his best to remain calm and collected.
"And you know my name! You did your homework...what is it? Your name?"
"Archimedes." he answered, flipping open his notepad and readying his pen. "Care to answer the question of why you've been changing people?"
"Does there have to be a reason?" Tyler questioned. "It's fun! And if I change them mentally too it's not like they even know anything is different."
"And those you transform into objects? The ones that get used up? Potentially eaten?"
"They're just serving their new purpose! Not like they can think afterward anyway. Objects don't have brains! Why treat 'em special?" Skyler shrugged.
"I see..." the weasel nodded slowly. He knew he had to step on eggshells if he didn't want to be transformed by the fox, trying to not be too antagonistic, he had a story to make after all. Rule number one was not upsetting who you were interviewing. "And how do you do all this, change people?"
"Frankly, your guess is as good as mine." Skyler replied. "But I'm not on to say no to a good thing. But I suppose if you really want to see it in action what better way to write about it than experiencing it for yourself?" the fox asked as his eyes began to glow.
Archimedes only had a brief moment to panic before the fox's magic took hold of the weasel's form, drastically altering it with Archimedes only able to hope it wouldn't be permanent.
His body shrank rapidly into his clothing, his entire outfit now unable to stay on his body. His form became buried underneath it as it went through its transformation.
His ears became larger, taking on a more defined circular shape as all of the fur vanished from it, leaving them a fleshy pink color. The length of his muzzle shrank down while the nose at the tip turned the same pink that his ears had. Although Archimedes retained the brown fur on his head, the lighter parts would transition into a darker color until he possessed one solid fur coat.
Archimedes would lose the fur on his hands and feet, just like what had happened on his ears. The digits of his hands and feet both became thinner, becoming a bit more curved as the color turned a fleshy pink. The brown fur replaced all the white on the rest of his body shortly afterward.
The changing weasel's tail retained its length proportionally but had shrunk along with the rest of his body. Like other parts of his form, Archimedes tail would become thinner while all the fur on it vanished. Both the length of his arms and legs became much smaller, the entirety of Archimedes' new form now able to fit into the palm of a hand.
Archimedes was disoriented, blinded as he was buried inside of his outfit. However, he was quickly able to see the light of day again when he felt himself being lifted up by his tail and held up in front of the fox's face.
"There, see? You wanted to rat me out so now you can see what it's like to be a rat!" the fox smirked.
Archimedes tried to respond, but all that escaped out of his muzzle were high-pitched squeaks.
"It's a fitting form for you, sticking your head where it doesn't belong. I'm just trying to live my life, do my own thing and then you come along and make me take time out of my day to deal with you. I'm a private guy, I don't want my life story out there!" he said to the rat.
"I could just keep you this way, give you to a snake, maybe I can make myself into a snake! Can't say I've eaten rat before but I'm an open-minded guy. I'd try anything once." he smirked.
All Archimedes could do was frantically squeak in an attempt to dissuade Skyler from whatever he was thinking of doing.
"But no, that's no fun. That's too easy for what you did. I don't want you sneaking around and trying to escape and turn back to normal! Can't have that story you were trying to write getting published. But what to do with a rat..." he pondered, looking around and noticing a small zoo that was built into the park and that's when an idea popped into his head. "Come along then, let's take you to your new home."
The fox continued to hold Archimedes by the tail, and despite his wiggling he could not escape Skyler's grip. Once inside the zoo, Archimedes had a moment of panic when the fox brought him over to the snake exhibit, even being taunted when he held the rat over the opening to the exhibit but that was just for show. Instead, Skyler took Archimedes to the backroom, something easily done since he transformed the man guarding the area into a simple stick.
"Alright, you're free to go. I think you'll find a nice home here." Skyler said, tossing the rat up into the air as Archimedes went into free fall. Luckily for the rat, he wouldn't feel the impact because Skyler transformed the rat before it ever made impact with the floor.
Some of Archimedes' height returned to him, although not much as it now was only about half of Skyler's height. What was lost on him was the rat's width. Even though it was already thin it became thinner, Archimedes' form hardening as the fur was vanishing, revealing nothing but wood underneath it.
The rat's face began to flatten, his muzzle, eyes, nose, and mouth vanishing into the fur. The shape of Archimedes' head altering, taking on more of a "U" shape while the material it was made out altered greatly. While his torso turned into wood, Archimede's head was a much stronger material, the color turning silver as it became metal.
Archimedes' arms shrank into his torso, becoming one with the wood and vanishing entirely as if he never had them in the first place. His tail would befall the same fate, no longer having a sign of once possessing one. His feet, however, would be met with a different fate. They connected at the heels where they flattened and the digits of toes all merged into one. The interior of his feet vanished, leaving a notable hole while what remained was a triangular shape. Like his head, the feet would turn into metal and with that, Archimedes was no longer a rat nor a weasel, but instead a simple shovel.
The shovel hit the ground with a loud "bang," the metal crashing onto the concrete with great force as it bounced up and down a few times before settling completely immobile.
"See? I'm a nice guy, I didn't let you fall down! That would have really hurt if I kept you a rat, consider yourself lucky!" Skyler said as he walked over and picked the shovel up. "And I even took the liberty of making you a heavy-duty shovel, you're not going to be wearing down anytime soon! Good thing too, because you get a big job ahead of you. Notice how big of a shovel head you have? It's because you're going to be used for cleaning. Come with me."
The fox left the area with the shovel in hand, seeing a couple that appeared to be on a date enjoying some time on a bench. Their kiss was interrupted when both of their bodies drastically enlarged, becoming the biggest animals in the entire zoo as their skin turned gray and trunks formed on their faces. The bench around them turned into a "pit" that would contain them so they couldn't get out, while some of those that were walking around them originally turning into food, toys, water, and landscapes for the two new elephants.
"There, that's what you're going to be used for." he said, pointing at the area that the elephants were "relieving" themselves at. "You might be heavy-duty, but I don't know how long they're going to keep you around with how stinky you'll be!" Skyler laughed. "That's right, all you'll be doing is shoveling shit! You did a shit job with that story so you'll be close to it since you're so familiar with it!" he taunted. "I read a bit of it, didn't even know my wolf pal's name was Trevor! Or know that there's more than one of me! I always make a few backups in case I get transformed. Can't let the world live without a dashing fox like me after all!" he laughed.
"And as for you, a zoo needs it's tools! Can't have the animals be walking around with all that crap lying around. They'll get sick! Your work is much more important now, rather than reporting on things you shouldn't be sticking your nose in! And well, I suppose you still are doing that, good thing you can't smell! I don't know why I'm even talking to you anymore. Pretty sure there's no one even in there to talk to!"
The fox looked around, noticing someone on their phone. "Hey, slacker. Do your job!" Skyler said, quickly transforming the zoo visitor into a zoo employee, a janitor to be precise. "Here, I brought the shovel for you. Best get to cleaning before it gets too bad in there. It's heavy-duty so don't be afraid to really get in there." the fox instructed as the new employee got to work.
Skyler watched with a smirk across his face, seeing what was once Archimedes being used as nothing more than a means to clean up the messes of animals. There was nothing left of the weasel, just an object to be used. He didn't feel like sticking around too long, so the fox left the scene, stopping by the trash to throw away the notepad that Archimedes had once kept all his notes on. The story about Skyler would never be published nor finished, the mystery of who the fox was and how he did what he did gone with it.

*grins* Nothing better than seeing a tabloid reporter get what they deserve for snooping into the private affairs of others.
I love how this plays out, where despite Archimedes seeing Skyler transform others, he still took the risk of trying to get a story out of it. Of course, the way Skyler simply has fun with him, is absolutely perfect. There's really nothing better than being helpless to the machinations of someone who really enjoys toying with their victims.
I also love how Skyler first turns him into a rat, which leads to so many possible outcomes that Skyler teases him with; but in the end he instead becomes something completely unexpected.
Having that ending be nothing more than a shovel used to clean up animal shit at a zoo, is such a wonderfully humiliating fate, which none of Archimedes' friends or associates would never learn about. Just another fur who vanished into the mysteries of the city.
Skyler is someone who we definitely want to see even more of, as the fox is simply too much fun and good at what he does, to not imagine hundreds of other scenarios with (un)fortunate encounters.
Thanks as always for another fantastic story.

Glad you like Skyler so much! One of my personal favorite characters to write
