Metsu was digging around, seeing if she could find anything of interest at a yard sale. She hadn't planned on stopping by, but it was on her way back home and she figured there was no harm and seeing if they had anything that she could purchase. She wasn't actively looking for anything, it was more of a way to pass the time in the day since it was still rather early.
Eventually, she came across something peculiar. It was a large circular stone disc, a gray-tinted green in color. One side was completely flat, while the others had markings all over it, maze-like in appearance at the center contained within a circle and wavy lines making a circle around that. Metsu wasn't entirely sure what it was, but she had to admit, it was beautiful.
She lifted it up, not expecting it to be as light as it was. She wasn't fully sure what she was going to do with it, just that she wanted it for her home. Maybe she could buy some wall mounts and hang it on the wall as decoration?
She walked over to the man who was running the yard sale, holding up the stone. "Excuse me, how much do you want for this?"
"Huh?" he leaned forward and adjusted his glasses, squinting at the object. "I...I don't think I've ever seen that before!"
"You sure, it was here in the pile?" Metsu raised an eyebrow.
"Yeah, I laid everything out and I didn't bring that out, I would have remembered a big stone like that!" he insisted.
"Maybe someone left it here?" Metsu suggested, but the man simply shook his head.
"Nope, I've kept my eye on everyone who came here, don't want anyone stealing from me after all." he gave a weak chuckle. "Though that's all the stranger I didn't notice it appearing..."
"Well...how much do you want for it?" Metsu asked, still intent on taking it home.
"I wouldn't feel right selling you something that I know isn't mine." the man running the yard sale replied. "Take it, it's yours. It seems like you'll appreciate it more than anyone else."
"Really? You sure you don't want at least a little something?"
"I insist." he shook his head. "Take it, it's yours! I won't take a dime for it."
"Really? I feel a little guilty taking it for free. You're doing a yard sale after all!" Metsu retorted. "I can't imagine you were planning to sell something without taking money for it."
"Yes, but it's not mine, and I'd feel just as guilty for selling you something I know isn't mine! I don't know where it came from, maybe it was meant for you to have."
"Meant for me to have...?" Metsu was confused by the logic, but maybe he was right. It was the only thing that had caught her eye, and she felt a strange allure from the stone. Like it was beckoning for her to take it.
"Yes! I think it's a good fit for you! Now then, please, take it with you! Don't think about it, just take it!" the man gave a friendly chuckle, hoping his insistence got through to her.
"If you say so, thanks!" Metsu let out a small laugh as she put it under her arm for easier carrying. There wasn't anything else that struck her fancy at the yard sale, and after a bit more searching she said her goodbye to the man and left with the stone in tow.
She returned home, taking a seat on her couch to examine the stone once more. She never really got a closer look at it until now, and noticed something on the backside of the stone that didn't have the markings on it. She brought it in for a closer look, reading the inscription on it.
"Goddess of the sun, watcher of kami, guardian of all." Metsu read the inscription out loud. Afterward, the runes on the backside of the shield began to glow, fire suddenly forming around all over the stone that caused Metsu to quickly drop it to the ground and jump back in surprise.
The fire didn't spread, however, and stayed maintained around the shield. The glowing runes of the stone would start to pulsate, and out of the corner of her eyes, Metsu noticed that same glow starting to form around her body. She felt a strange burning sensation forming all over her body, the woman's entire body morphing underneath the glow around her.
Metsu's already long hair lengthened down even more, almost reaching all the way to her rear instead of just down to the center of her back. The coloration of her hair altered drastically during its growth. Most color would be lost in it, turning a snowball white color. The exception would be the tips, of which darkened into a full black. The tips of her hair curled into themselves, leaving a bit of a "swirl" to them where the back of the hair was. Her ears formed a similar coloration to them, with white fur coating the interior and exterior sans the tip, which instead was black. Metsu's ears themselves traveled up her head to rest at the very top, the size of them shortening and widening. The horns on the side of her head rapidly receded into her head, not stopping until they completely vanished off of her form, no trace of ever having them in the first place.
Her face would start to sprout hair all over it. It was soft, matching the white coloration of her head as a layer of white fur completely overtook Metsu's entire head, all of her skin invisible underneath it. Metsu's face extended outward, growing into a muzzle. Her nose now rested at the edge of her snout, enlarged and moist with a black coloration and triangular shape. The shade of her head altered a bit as it gained more canine features, with her cheeks more extended, her fur hanging off in ruffles on each side.
The white fur that had grown around her face continued to grow down Metsu's body. Slowly, hair sprouted from her skin and buried it underneath the fur from her head all the way down to her toes. There were a few segments of fur slicked up at her shoulders, wrists, and ankles that would have hints of black in them to highlight them.
Her tail would also go through changes. The scaled tail was becoming furred, all while becoming much fluffier. The volume almost doubling in width as white fur with curled black streaks formed within them. The very tip of it turned black, matching the furr pattern that was going on with the rest of her body.
Metsu's feet enlarged, the digits of them becoming more rounded as the toes merged together, leaving only three digits behind. The nails of them sharpened and turned a black color, shifting into short claws. Afterward, Metsu's feet were suddenly forced up onto the toes, the plantigrade structure of her legs altering into a digitigrade one. With that, any trace of her old physical form was gone, replaced with the body of a white wolf.
That was far from the end of the changes. The stone began to lift itself off of the ground, hovering up in front of Metsu's face. Her confusion and shock was fading as she looked at the stone, it was like seeing an old friend for the first time.
"Yes...yes of course. It's all coming back to me now..." she muttered out, her voice echoing through the halls of her home. The words she spoke didn't match the usual tone that escaped her lips. Instead, it was more regal, more elegant. Soft yet demanding of attention.
The stone began to spin, the glowing reaching its brightest levels as it moved to Metsu's backside where it remained. The spinning got faster as one final stage of Metsu's transformation came to her.
On the white fur, entirely new markings began to form. They were thin strokes of red around her shoulders and at her thighs. These shone through the white, emitting a soft red glow as well, matching the red fur patterns. More red markings formed, this time around her eyes with two distinct markings surrounding her eyes, opening closer to her muzzle and closing in a pointed tip at the start of her eyes. On her forehead, a red circular formed into her fur, with thin lines sticking out from each side, one going all the way down her muzzle to her nose and the other extending to the back of her neck.
Lastly, Metsu's outfit would be the last to change. The sleeveless coat she was wearing vanished into thin air, losing the garment entire while her leggings wasted no time in following in suit. The top she was waring opened up at the center as the skirt extended further down to the back of her knees. The color turned white matching her fur, with red lining matching the red markings on her body. The sweater she wore underneath it melted away for the most part, all of it converging around her waists where it turned into red bands that would keep the robes closed. The center of the outfit opened, one segment overlapping the other as the sleeves vanished. With that, Metsu now wore nothing more than regal white robes, the stone shield on her back the only other accessory.
The last to change would be Metsu's eyes, going from red to a bright hazel color to match the sun. This signalled a change to Metsu mentally as well. She didn't outright forget who she was originally, but it became much less prominent in her head in favor of the new responsibilities being loaded into her head. She wasn't Metsu, she was Amaterasu. She was the goddess of the sun, worshiped by her followers and guardian of all those who would need it.
"Thank you." Metsu, now Amaterasu gave a bow, both to the shield that had awoken her and Metsu, the woman who was now her vessel in this realm. "The land will remain safe with my watch, an evil is growing, and the world needs me to protect it. Normally I wouldn't resort to such drastic measures, but desperate times call for them." she explained. "I do not know when this evil will rise, but it will not stay for as long as I am around. It was no coincidence you had found my Divine Instrument, this was destined to happen. Your soul and mine are connected, otherwise it would not have called for you and appeared for you. And now they're as connected as two can be. Although you cannot talk, perhaps you cannot even think, but when all is said and done you will remember what we accomplish here."
The wolf walked over to the mirror, looking at her reflection for a few moments. "I must admit, I did not expect to be standing on just two legs. Normally, I take the appearance of a normal wolf, so I'm not used to this figure. Perhaps it has something to do with the way we have bonded our souls. Half of my wolf side, half of your more human side. If anything, this will make things easier for us. Having to do things with just a muzzle and paws had proven challenging in the past." she offered a small chuckle.
Amaterasu would spend the downtime practicing painting, drawing beautiful landscapes and tributes to the sun. She was the sun goddess, and appreciated the sun just as much as her followers appreciated her. The evil could show up any moment, and she would be prepared for it. But until then, she would enjoy peaceful days painting at sunrise, drawing the sun's sunlight on nature all over. Amaterasu never left home without the Divine Instrument, always attached to her back and ready for action when action would call for it.
