Starting with his tunic! Which was thankfully fairly straight forward, with the help of mom rat who is very used to making this kind of thing on the sewing machine. But I'm slowly learnin!
We first started by heading over to Joann fabrics and trying to find some nice green linen to make the base layer of the tunic with. With some yellow to act as the accents as well as the triangles on the hood when we got to that stage. The yellow was easy to get but instead of linen we found some gauze! A material I didn't even know you could get in the roll like that. And it was the perfect color. So that was what we picked up. Another benefit of it is the material is very breathable to make it easier to move about and wear it for awhile. I am slightly concerned about its durability but so far at least *knock on wood* it has held up well. The last pick up at the store was a pattern book for the tunic. We choose what I believe was a middle eastern style long robe. From Butterick. But I unfortunately can't find the package. Once we sewed the full pattern it was just a matter of working out how exactly how big we wanted it to be - remembering I was going to eventually have armor on the forearms and shins, and cutting the fabric down. Before fold and sew to protect the edge. And then cutting out the yellow to trim around the sides!
I believe it turned out very well :) And so Grizzle continues to slowly come together.
