Surprise! The Scrawny Marten and the big buff Cave Lion were together all along! :P
Definitely an unorthodox pair, but they really love each other and they are happy with their small blended family.
About their backstory, I guess both of them lost their tribes in pretty violent ways. Times are changing, with the hunter-gatherers being displaced by farmers and herders, and the tensions can sometimes turn into open conflict. Cave Lion's tribe was destroyed by an armed group, but he managed to escape with his son after being heavily wounded. While running away he stumbled upon Scrawny Marten's hut, where she lived alone with her daughter. Here she used her healing abilities to nurse him back to health, and after that he just... stayed there, forever. He's very much into his tiny wife, but she still doesn't quite understand why :P

Okay I wasn't aiming for this when i said I wanted to see them together, but am 102% on board with this... it might be I have a slight bias towards inter-species couples, especially ones that had kids before they met each other, but I'm not sure if that's it fully.
And with that back story, I legit now want a short book about these two. I'll take more art work sure, but this image and story premise have me too hooked. I just want a full blown story to explore these character's and their world.
I don't know, I just really want to spend hours reading their story.
